3 August 26 th, 2018 From the Desk of the Pastor Dear Friends in Christ, 14 th Sunday Pentecost Glory to Jesus Christ! Such an honor it is to call Carnegie home and to call Holy Trinity my parish! My family and I are so grateful to serve here and live as one with you all. This parish festival reminds me, yet again, how much God Almighty has blessed you with this lovely church building and with an even greater faith. This festival work is exhausting for everyone. The air conditioner in the basement somehow turned off for a bit on Saturday and it was uncomfortable to say the least, the demands were Herculean, the workers had no opportunity for any breaks, and this pattern continues today. Yet, despite this all, people are really in good cheer! They smile and genuinely want to be here with each other for the good of our church and our community. Ultimately, we do this for the glory of God. This love of God and love of neighbor comes through in your conduct, in your faces and in the glimmer in your eyes; I am so grateful to the Lord Jesus Christ that my family and I can say that this is where He sent us. Your industry and attitude, your team-work and stick-with-it-ness inspire me. Numerous people who visited our parish yesterday spoke of their desire to visit us, not just for food and music, but for prayer on Sundays. I ask you to keep this prayer in your mind and hearts. In Christ, Jason, priest and sinner PS: If you are sick or a loved one is sick and in hospital, please call the rectory and inform Fr. Jason so that he may visit with the holy mysteries. PSS: Please pray for Ann Hritzko s speedy recovery. She feel and underwent hipreplacement surgery. Let us keep her in prayer that she may return home to her sister Jean safe and soon!

4 New Things at Holy Trinity Night at the Races November 10 th here at Holy Trinity. Mark your calendars! Catechesis by Eparchy of St. Josaphat here, Nov.17 th Family Life Catechesis organized by the Eparchy for Sept. 27 th has been postponed to a later date yet to be determined. Events at Holy Trinity The Parish Youth Group will be assembling 130 lunches (260 sandwiches) for distribution to homeless and less fortunate in Pittsburgh s Hill District on Saturday AM, September 15 th. The total cost of this project is approximately $300.00, their needs are: sandwich meats, Fruit (Qty. 130), snack packs, drinks, cheese, mayo/mustard packs, bags, 26 loaves of bread. If you would like to support the Youth Group with this project in any way please contact Bohdan Mykhailiv at or bohdanmykhailiv@yahoo.com Events in our Christian Community The 84 th annual Pilgrimage in honor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help will be held on Labor Day weekend (September 1 & 2) on the grounds of Mount St. Macrina Monastery in Uniontown. Its participants include clergy and faithful from across the country. The Pilgrimage offers the celebration of Divine Liturgy; opportunities for the Mystery of Reconciliation; Anointing of the Sick; Adult Enrichment Programs; activities for children, teens, young adults; and pastoral counseling. The Pilgrimage is one the oldest and largest Byzantine Catholic Pilgrimages in the United States. Events in our Ukrainian Community Ukrainian School of Pittsburgh (Ridna Shkola) opens its doors again on Saturday September 8 at 10 am in the hall of our church. School is open for children ages 6 through High School. 5 Gospel for the Sunday Matthew 22:1-14 The Parable of the Wedding Banquet 1 And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, 2 The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a marriage feast for his son, 3 and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast; but they would not come. 4 Again he sent other servants, saying, Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have made ready my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves are killed, and everything is ready; come to the marriage feast. 5 But they made light of it and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, 6 while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. 7 The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. 8 Then he said to his servants, The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy. 9 Go therefore to the thoroughfares, and invite to the marriage feast as many as you find. 10 And those servants went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; so the wedding hall was filled with guests. 11 But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment; 12 and he said to him, Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the attendants, Bind him hand and foot, and cast him into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
