Lenten Soup Supper Join your fellow parishioners as we prepare for a joyous and mindful Lenten season. This year's Lenten Soup Supper be Friday, February 9 at 6:30 PM in the California. Following a supper that will feature multiple soups, salad, bread and dessert, our associate pastor, Fr. Billy Zondler, will share his vocation story. If you donated through WeShare, you will automatically receive a contribution statement from them. Respect Life Month is January and is in remembrance of the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. This was the decision that made abortion legal in the United States. The Church reaches out to women and men for healing and reconciliation with Rachel s Hope Healing Retreats. The next retreat for women is scheduled February 23-25, Contact rachelshope.org for more information. Senior Men s Group The group meets for lunch the 3rd Thursday of each month. 3 Due to the severity of the Flu Season this year, we would like to take some precautions during Mass here at Mission San Diego. During the Sign of Peace, we ask that you refrain from shaking hands, simply nod and smile or wave. Eucharistic Ministers will not drink from the cup at Communion time. All holy water fonts will remain empty until the Flu Season passes. We thank you for your cooperation. Martha and Mary Guild, This Guild meets Mondays at 10am in the Mission church. They begin with coffee and prayer and then do light cleaning to the pews, kneelers, railings and sanctuary. Men and women are welcome to join. This method of prayer is both a discipline and a relationship with God. The focus of this prayer is a deepening of our relationship with the Living Christ. We meet every Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:15 pm in the California Room of the St. Francis Center. 5 THE LAMB OF GOD Behold the Lamb of God! We hear this phrase every Sunday at Mass, but there s a good chance that many Roman Catholics do not know who in the Bible originally spoke it. The phrase appears only in the Gospel of John, on the lips of John the Baptist, who utters it twice. In today s Gospel reading, John proclaims Jesus as the Lamb of God, and two of John s own disciples then follow Christ. A little bit later Andrew, who heard John and then followed Jesus, brings his brother Simon to be re-named Cephas, or Peter. A careful look at these Bible verses shows us the mission of everyone baptized into the Body of Christ: we must always proclaim our faith in Christ, so that others will follow him. We may not know how the will of God might work through those we bring to Christ; that is not the point. The point is that our on going mission as a church is to bring others to Christ, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
