1 Palm Sunday of the Passion of Our Lord This Sunday has come to be known as Palm Sunday. It was on this day that the crowd which was following Jesus as he made his entry into Jerusalem spread branches of Palm trees on the road (John 12:13) as ''they set Jesus on'' the colt (Luke 19:35). This Sunday is also called Passion Sunday because the passion of the Lord is read. It is the beginning of the Holy Week in which the Lord suffered and died. This week is referred as 'holy'. The Holy Week is the most sacred time of the Church's year. In this week, we observe the Triduum, that is, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. On the night of Holy Saturday, we commence our Vigil, the mother of all vigils in which we celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord. Today, we begin the Passion narrative. The Priest speaks the words of Jesus, a second reader narrates while the rest of us proclaim the words of the other persons reminding us that this is indeed our story. At one time we are with the Lord, at another time, we are not. Jesus died and rose for us. Let us all join in the solemn celebrations of this Holy Week, remembering also to fast and abstain from meat on Good Friday. Gospel for procession: Luke 19: Jesus makes a triumphant entry into Jerusalem as a Messianic king. 1st reading: Isaiah 50: 4-7. The Lord's servant endures his suffering but is confident that God will vindicate him. Responsorial Psalm: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? 2nd reading: Philippians 2:6-11. Though Jesus was in the form of God but he took human flesh, humbled himself and became obedient unto death. Gospel: Luke 22:14-23:56. The Gospel is Luke's version of the passion of the Lord. 4 Knights of Columbus Beausejour Council #5870 Knights of Columbus Present Wednesday of Holy Week The Passion Of The Christ by Mel Gibson Movie Showing April 17, :00 P.M. St. Mary Roman Catholic Church - Lower Level - Beausejour The passion of Christ is a great movie that depicts the final 12 hours of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem during his crucifixion. The term passion originates from Latin where it means suffering and pain. However, Christian theology broadened it to include the love of Christ for mankind. Now, the passion of Christ means that he willingly suffered and died for us. The Passion of Christ begins from the time Judas betrayed Jesus Christ, condemnation by the Pharisees an appearance before Pontius Pilate. The movie runs for 126 minutes and up to 100 minutes concern specifically with details of how Jesus Christ was tortured before he died. Some describe it as the most violent film ever created. Mel Gibson who created the film designed the film s graphics to clearly show the price Jesus Christ had paid for our sins. It is not a homily or a sermon but a visualization depicting the main event in the Christian religion. This movie is the prayer of a gifted filmmaker, but it's also a narrow and harrowing perspective on a story that, no matter what your faith, is bigger than any attempt to portray it on film Knights of Columbus Family Prayer Night and Pot Luck Supper - St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Beausejour Family Prayer Night and Pot Luck Supper, Sunday May 5 th, 2019 at 5:00 P.M.
