1 Let us be faithful in speech and action. The writer of Sirach gives examples of how what is good is separated from what is poor, especially in speech. Saint Paul reminds us that Christ has defeated death it no longer has power over us. In the Gospel, Jesus uses the parable of the blind leading the blind to show there is a difference between what is good and what is evil. The first reading today uses the example of a sieve to show how grain (good fruit) is separated from the husks (the dead shell). Tribulation and difficulties are sieves in our own lives and when we are shaken, the real fruit of READINGS FOR THE WEEK OF March 3, 2019 Monday Saint Casimir Sir 17:20-24; Ps 32:1-2, 5, 6, 7; Mk 10:17-27 Tuesday Sir 35:1-12; Ps 50:5-6, 7-8, 14 and 23; Mk 10:28-31 Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Ash Wednesday Jl 2:12-18; Ps 51:3-4, 5-6ab, 12-13, 14 and 17; 2 Cor 5:20 6:2; Mt 6:1-6, Sts. Aside from a new floor installed in , more energy efficient lighting, and some structural repairs, few changes have been made to the building in those 42 busy years. But with some long needed updates and additions, our Parish Center can provide for a whole lot more. Air conditioning will make the building available for comfortable activity year round. A new sound system can provide for better large group experiences and programs. A new upgraded kitchen will provide for many kinds of social gatherings, retreats and other events. And an exterior facelift will make the building more welcoming and hospitable to all but the birds that currently delight in making holes and nests in the deteriorated wooden exterior. Some of these updates such as the kitchen renovation have already been in feasibility and planning studies for some time. The Re-Igniting Our Faith Campaign will help to make this dream of a more useful, efficient and comfortable Parish Center a reality offering opportunities for growth in education, formation, and community building within our Parish. Watch the bulletin and check our parish Facebook page and website for more information on the St. Madeleine Sophie Re-Igniting Our Faith Campaign.

4 FASTING AND ABSTINENCE Abstinence is refraining from meat and binds all those 14 years or older. Fasting calls for one (1) full meal per day. Two smaller meals are permitted, but eating solid food between meals is prohibited. It binds all years of age. These are expressions of our desire to be converted in our hearts, to be reconciled with each other & to love our neighbor. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting and abstinence. Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence. Please remember in your prayers the souls of Jean DiMeo Sandra Sill Dorothy Czyzewski May they rest in the peace of Christ. CHRISTIAN SERVICE NEW SOCKS NEEDED The Guilderland area Girl Scouts are collecting new socks for men, women, and children for donations to three local charities: Parsons Children's Center, the Marillac Family Shelter, and the Homeless Action Committee. Please bring your donation of new socks of any size and color to Mass on March 9 & 10. A box will be set up in the gathering area for collection of the socks. There will be a meeting of our Family Promise Ministry on Thursday, March 14th at 6:30 PM in the St. Gabriel's Church Meeting room. All parishioners are welcome to attend this meeting. We are so blessed by generous parishioners! Through their generosity, we have been able to help so many of the less fortunate in our parish community with our food pantry.
