2 Lent Should not be a Four-Letter Word 10:00 am Mass SUN 18 MON 19 TUE 20 11:00 am Service Sunday Parish Hall DEAR PARISHIONERS Every year I am amazed at the amount of people who participate in Ash Wednesday services. When I look out at the congregation I can t help but think, Where are all these people on Sunday? What is it about the beginning of Lent that makes people come that may not be here on a weekly basis? I believe one of the reasons is because people feel engaged with the season of Lent. Out of all the times of the year, Lent invites everyone to participate in a special way by preparing our hearts and our minds for the Resurrection of Jesus at Easter. Lent is a season of action and I think that there are many who like the feeling of achievement as they try and live out their own Lenten practices. Sharpening our spiritual discipline through self-denial is a great thing, but if that is all we find meaningful in Lent, are our hearts and minds really changed? If you haven t in the past, I encourage you to add charitable acts to your Lenten routine. Serving others was one of the central missions of Jesus. He encourages all of us to imitate him by reaching out to others and sharing the love we have been given by him. If we focus on others during Lent, I can almost assure you that Lent will not be a drudgery, but a joy! Deacon Mike PASSION PLAY March 22 through 25 at the Xavier Fine Arts Theatre.
