Today we commemorate: 2nd Sunday of Matthew Alexander and Antonina the Martyrs Timothy, Bishop of Proussa Our Holy Father Gregory, Bishop of Assos EPISTLE READING The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 2:10-16 Brethren, glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. All who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

Ὅσοι γὰρ ἀνόμως ἥμαρτον, ἀνόμως καὶ ἀπολοῦνται καὶ ὅσοι ἐν νόμῳ ἥμαρτον, διὰ νόμου κριθήσονται οὐ γὰρ οἱ ἀκροαταὶ τοῦ νόμου δίκαιοι παρὰ τῷ θεῷ, ἀλλʼ οἱ ποιηταὶ τοῦ νόμου δικαιωθήσονται. GOSPEL READING The Gospel According to Matthew 4:18-23 At that time, as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left their boat and their father, and followed him. And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people.

Καὶ προβὰς ἐκεῖθεν εἶδεν ἄλλους δύο ἀδελφούς, Ιάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ζεβεδαίου καὶ Ιωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ μετὰ Ζεβεδαίου τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῶν καταρτίζοντας τὰ δίκτυα αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτούς. οἱ δὲ εὐθέως ἀφέντες τὸ πλοῖον καὶ τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ. Καὶ περιῆγεν ὅλην τὴν Γαλιλαίαν ὁ Ιησοῦς διδάσκων ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς αὐτῶν καὶ κηρύσσων τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς βασιλείας καὶ θεραπεύων πᾶσαν νόσον καὶ πᾶσαν μαλακίαν ἐν τῷ λαῷ. Festival Volunteers Festival Volunteers Needed. The Festival is the most important fundraiser for our parish. It cannot be successful without the support of all parishioners. 5 Demetrion-Hodges Family is in crisis mode Christine and David Hodges need our help. They need someone to stay at the house with David on Fridays from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Home cooked meals would also be appreciated. Please contact Fr. Andrew if you can help. A few of Christine Demetrion friends that have setup a meal train for her and her family to see if anyone from church would like to participate. The website is: She is very grateful for the meals. Church Bookmobile St. Nicholas Bookmobile is adding many new items for sale. You may purchase items after Liturgy on Sunday or by talking to Elaine Manneh at cell or house at Church Library A church library is now available in the church office. You may borrow books for a period of three weeks. Please write your name and telephone number on the library card. Consider sharing your reading in the bulletin. Children's books are available for borrowing in the Sunday School trailer. St. Nicholas Cookbook Our St. Nicholas cookbook is now available for sale. Copies are in the church office. The cost is $12. each. Consider buying several to give out as gifts. Thanks to all who contributed recipes to make this project a success. Graduation Ceremony The Church School will have a graduation ceremony immediately following Liturgy on June 10th. Two of our outstanding students will be recognized for their hard work. Dedication/ Father's Day Luncheon The Church board is sponsoring a Dedication/ Father's Day Luncheon on Sunday, June 17th. The dinner is in honor of several of our distinguished parishioners and in honor and memory of Robert Hitte, Sr offered by his beloved family. Golden Greeks We will be having our next meeting on 19 June, It will a special event at the Stavros's house in Temecula for lunch. And to learn how to make your own sprouts, how much to consume and how to maximize consumption and where to buy the ingredients. 6 AHEPA AHEPA and DOP meetings will take place at the church every fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm (new time). Guests are welcome to attend the meetings. The Luncheon previously planned by Aehpa/ DOP on June 10th will be postponed until the spring General Assembly. The date will be announced shortly. Ahepa and Daughters of Penelope are sponsoring a fun afternoon in the sun. Whale Watching and Dolphin Cruise Saturday, July 14th at noon. The total cost is $ fuel charge per person. ($14.77) We have purchased 30 tickets. Please pay Pres. Elaine if you wish to attend this event. (We need to leave the church by 9:00 am for an 11:00 check in.) 8 Continuation of the Principals of Orthodox Stewardship: 3. Sound, courages, stewardship programs will challenge the status quo of flawed Church structures and practices, Among the issues for consideration would be a review of the fundamental roles of lay and clergy leaders and the shortcomings of common lay Parish Board (vs. episcopal/clerical leadership) structures and the membership dues system. Pastoral prudence is necessary in such cases, where embedded practices are sometimes enshrined and without a strong catechesis beforehand, upsetting the status quo may cause serious distrust on many levels in parish life. In communities where parish life is self-oriented, a new outward looking orientation will need to be presented. We as Orthodox Christians see stewardship more of as a part of of a greater whole of Christian life, than a topic unto itself. Orthodox stewardship must be illuminated not only by its biblical roots, but by other detentions of Holy Tradition as well, so that it is not simply and appendage (albeit interesting) to Christian life, but a component part. If you haven t become a steward of St. Nicholas please do so today! Your stewardship/membership is important to your church!
