Helena led the members in a Hail Mary. Membership Mimi reported on the five new applications received. The current membership stands at 171 paid members (6 Juniors). The members present voted to accept the new applicants. Treasurer Susan reported that she received an acknowledgement of receipt from the IRS; however, has not heard back from them on the status. The IRS should let us know within 90 days of the following: If CAWC is approved; if changes are needed to the application; or if CAWC will need to resubmit the application. The IRS will determine what type of nonprofit designation will be assigned to CAWC. Susan also reported that CAWC is required to file with the State and that has been taken care of. She will review the Guide for Charities in the State of California. They are also very particular on the filing form. She did contact a representative from the State; and CAWC is required to resubmit Form 990 Notice for Tax Exempt Organizations. Drop-Box As discussed at the meeting held on March 3, 2013, all members should be registered on Dropbox. All current files should be updated to the Dropbox files. Helena stated that all board members have access to Dropbox which will cut down on ing documents back and forth unnecessarily and alleviate duplicate documents. Many documents have been moved over and folders made for Membership, Legal, Events, Mailing Lists, Minutes, Agendas, etc. An event checklist has been created to help any board member chairing an event. 1 April 14, 2013

2 Helena and Theresa briefly explained the benefits of using a Dropbox made some suggestions on how best to register Dropbox for those who are having difficulties. and Evite Update President Maryann reported that each event coordinator has the responsibility to see that the event notice is sent by Evite, Facebook, Website, and General CAWC Google blast coordinating with the person who handles the processing of the notice. Discussion was held on the pros and cons of electronic notification of events, and the confusion of using Evite versus . Sanja stated that there was considerable confusion on reservations received, because some people responded one way to the Evite and then different information made submitted by their phone calls. There were too many choices for responding. Jeanne recommended that invitations to members be sent via rather than Evite, which is much cleaner and should alleviate the confusion. This will allow the RSVP s to come in via or by phone. Jeanne also mentioned using marketing tools like and Theresa mentioned using for eblasts to members about events. Theresa commented on the payment issue, and stated that Paypal should solve this problem. April 6 th Spring Fling Update Maryann ZW thanked Katherine Jordan and Mary Ann Skoko for their generous donation of $1,500 each to CAWC, in celebrating their 50 years in the Croatian Fraternal Union of America. She also thanked Pero and Ana Matijasevic, and Richard Jordan, who worked in the kitchen, catered a delicious dinner, and donated their services for this event. Sanja Strom, chairperson, thanked everyone for their work. The event was successful. Discussion was held on having an event for the young people, and a Country-Western theme was suggested; with an In and Out wagon. Susan Jordan gave the Treasurer s Report on the April 6 th Spring Fling. She stated most of the bills have been submitted, and that without the special donations, this event probably broke even! Susan stated that she does need an invoice from St. Anthony s for the hall rental; that that she should have a more definite report by the next meeting. Discussion was held on help at our events from other than Board members. Sanja acknowledged the help by Sandy Slivar with selling the Raffle tickets. She volunteered to help and stated she would be willing to help at future events if needed. A thank you note should be sent to Sandy. Joann reported on the Mass and participation by the Juniors. She stated that the Mass went well, and that Father Ivan Gerovac was very pleased by the participation of the CAWC members. Passing of Cheryl Buntich Discussion was held on the passing of CAWC member Cheryl Buntich after a lengthy illness. Cheryl was the wife of Steve and three children. Cheryl was also the sister-in-law of our Board member Marianna Buntich Suzich. Mimi mentioned that the family was very appreciative of the attendance by our Board 2 April 14, 2013

3 members at Cheryl s funeral and the numerous sympathy cards and donations received. It was unanimously agreed that a $100 donation be made on behalf of CAWC to the Cheryl Buntich Scholarship Fund at St. Bede s School. Mimi will send a sympathy card along with the donation to Steve and family. Altar Society at St. Anthony s Helena stated that she spoke with Father Ivan, Administrator at St. Anthony Croatian Catholic Church, who is interested in restoring St. Anne s Altar Society at St. Anthony s and was asking if CAWC would help has an Altar Society. Following discussion, it was agreed that CAWC would not become the official Altar Society for St. Anthony s. CAWC members are in favor of restoring the Altar Society as a separate Church entity and individual CAWC members should surely join and become involved, if so desired. Church Picnic in June Maryann and Helena reported on a discussion they had with Vijeko Kosor, newly elected President of St. Anthony s Church Council, regarding the Women s Club involvement at St. Anthony s Church picnic in June. Discussion was held on becoming involved with the picnic and a suggestion was made on CAWC having its own booth, and selling refreshments. Jeanne suggested having a Specialty Coffee booth. She will contact her resources regarding the use of their machinery and report back at the next meeting. Brenda Brkusic & Mia Corak Slavenska Film Project Discussion was held on CAWC sponsoring a fundraising event for this Film Project. President Maryann stated that Brenda would provide a 15-minute film presentation. This documentary film project is supported by PBS SoCal and the cost of the film is covered by the Foundation. Maryann stated that the monies needed are for the finishing of the film. Possible locations for this fundraising event were discussed, and this item was tabled until the next meeting. Revlon Walk May 11 Helena stated that she is coordinating all items for this event. An and Evite were sent out to members. Several members signed up already. Mimi reported that she has received several individual donations. Irvine Food Bank June 1 Maryann ZW is coordinating all items for this event, and will send out an . Arcadia Aboretum Concert Series President Maryann asked for a volunteer to coordinate the September 7 th Saturday evening, Arboretum Concert Series of the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra, which was reported on at the March meeting. A brief discussion was held on this item, and there being no volunteer from the Board members present, Maryann will ask Zorkita Paschall, a CAWC member, to coordinate this event. 3 April 14, 2013

4 Fall Fashion Show Sanja and Marianna are reviewing possible venues for this event. Sanja stated that she does have ladies who are willing to model; and donations of the following items: clothing (including a wedding dress), hair and make-up, and music. Medjugorje Ivan, Guest Speaker Helena stated that CAWC will sponsor this event and that she is the Chairperson. She was in contact with Ana Bullum Shawl about setting up a date for early 2014 at St. Anthony s. She also spoke to Father Ivan and he is in agreement. Helena stated that St. Anthony s will need to extend an invitation to the speaker. Because the speaker receives numerous invitations from church s to speak, and can only accommodate a limited number, he will review them and make his decision later this year. Helena stated that this event would be a religious service only. The cost for the speaker s accommodations would be covered by the Club. There would be no charge to the attendees; however, a basket for donations could be circulated. These details would be finalized later. She will contact Father Ivan again about sending the invitation letter. The sponsorship of this event was unanimously agreed upon by the members present today. Fowler Museum at UCLA Following a brief discussion of the Fowler Museum UCLA, dress from Southeastern Europe, March 10 July 14, President Maryann requested that Theresa include this exhibit on the Club s Website. Following discussion on Birthday s, it was agreed this would not be feasible. Helena stated that numerous communications are received by the Club. This has become extremely time-consuming to review them and determine what requires the Club s attention. Linda volunteered to review them. Theresa stated that she will work on the PAYPAL project. May 26 (Sunday) Croatian Independence Day Street Festival, San Pedro Helena plans to attend the Festival, and stated she is still waiting to see if CAWC will get a table for membership sign-ups at this event. Christmas Boat Parade President Maryann will report on the December Newport Beach Boat Parade at the next meeting. CAWC Merchandise Helena presented a T-shirt with the Club s Logo. Jeanne stated that she is working on a new logo for the Club and will report at the next meeting. A brief discussion was held on obtaining a Club banner for use at public events! 4 April 14, 2013

5 Fundraisers Andrea discussed that she and Theresa would like to take on the Cookbook project. Other Submission of Articles for Website Daniela Bradvica will coordinate material from CAWC member Viktorija Lejko-Lacan, Professor of Slavic Studies at UCLA. Maryann Zovak-Wieder will contact and coordinate material received from Elsie Ivancic Dunin, Professor Emerita, UCLA.
