2 The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; to God who is, who was, and who is to come (Rev. 1). Dear Parishioners and Visitors: Come, Holy Spirit! I encourage you to continue praying for the youth of our parish especially those who received the Sacrament of Confirmation by Bishop Clark last Sunday. They are young people of faith filled with potential to evangelize the faith and promote peace to our world. Last Sunday, Bishop Clark inspired our confirmandi to be ambassadors of Christ from the letter of St. Paul. He explained the various roles and functions of ambassador. Bishop Clark gave us two words that highlight the vision of Pope Francis, who is the Ambassador of Christ: reconciliation and the poor. Everyone from church and state, society and family, to group and individual, we are all called to reconcile with one another especially in times of conflicts and divisions. The second word is the poor. Helping those who are vulnerable, rejected or neglected by society and others, struggling economically or persecuted, is the call of the Gospel to care for one another (Mt. 25). Gratitude to All Catechists of CCSV and Sister Anna The evangelization of the Catholic faith and the teaching of Jesus are two of the most important aspects of parish ministry. This effort requires a lot of dedicated volunteers, who are trained in the faith to sacrifice their time, talents and treasure. Their commitment every week is very commendable. There are three major groups of Religious Education and faith formation: (a) First Communion children which has about 14 catechists and volunteers every Wednesday (b) Confirmation for high school youth which has about 16 catechists and volunteers every Sunday after the 10AM Sunday mass. (c) RCIA & Adult Catholics has 3 catechists to teach the faith every Monday evening. I am truly thankful for all their efforts and creativity in finding ways that inspire our candidates to learn and engage in discussions. Finally, I am also thankful for the leadership of Sr. Anna, our Religious Education director, and for the support of our parishioners through prayers and financial donations for our programs and ministries here at CCSV. Fullest Potentials in Life Last Sunday, in my homily I reflected on the word potential. Anne Frank wrote in her memoir: Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that you don't know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is! How do we go about discovering our fullest potential in life? The example I used was who you would hire or recruit: a person with proven experiences or a person with future potential to be great. Our potentials in life will not be actualized until we are being stretched or challenged by various circumstances in life. Our education, experiences, and encounters with others are circumstances that will inspire us to utilize our gifts and talents to their full potential. I highlighted several practical steps to cultivate our gifts: (1) Grow up & take responsibility (2) Get rid of negative attitudes (3) Don t be labelled by others (4) Finding moments of gratitude. Do you live up to your full potential? Be Informed of your Faith! Be Interested in Our Community and Church! Be Involved and make a difference. Have a blessed week ahead in God s love and protection. 3 THE TRINITY IS LOVE WORSHIP, LITURGY & FAITH Theologians throughout the Christian centuries have spilled much ink (and, on occasion, some blood) in describing and defining the mystery of the Holy Trinity. One of the earliest, most poetic, and beautiful descriptions comes from St. Augustine in De Trinitas, wherein he describes the Trinity as One (the Father) who loves, One (the Son) who is loved, and One (the Spirit) who is love. And these three Ones are also one Three. It might be wisest for us to leave the technical wranglings to the academic theologians, and focus on the fact that the three Persons of the Trinity are indeed persons; they are best known and understood in their love for each other and for us. We are made in the image of those loving persons, and our best relationships are lived out in the context of love. Truly loving relationships are inexhaustible mysteries to be lived in joy. If this is true of our human relationships, how much more so is it true of our relationship with the Trinity. God s Word Today In today's first reading Moses reminds the people of all that God had done for them. The Israelites kept falling into patterns of forgetfulness, not remembering the great things that God had accomplished. On this Trinity Sunday, perhaps we need this kind of reminder as well. The Lord has given us the gift of this community of faith in which we celebrate the sacraments and continually taste and see God's abundant goodness. We stand in awe on this day of the liturgical year. We are awed by our God who has done wondrous things for us. And for all that this God-- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit--has done, we give thanks and praise. J. S. A.D Saint Basil ~ Establishes large communities of monks in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). As bishop of Cesarea, Basil has his monks engage in the apostolic work of teaching and pastoral care. 4 PARISH & SCHOOL LIFE: MINISTRY, EVENTS & REMINDERS OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP NOVENA Join us every Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm for the novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. In this devo on to Our Lady, we pay her tribute and ask for her miraculous assistance. Our devo on consists of novena prayers followed by Mass and Rosary. The beau ful framed icon is then brought home for a week by a family member and they pray the rosary daily together. The image is brought back to the church the following Wednesday. 5 Priest Retirement Fund L.A. Archdiocese Collection: June 6-7, 2015 Next weekend all parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will be asked to give generously to support the Retirement Fund for Archdiocesan Priests. At each mass on June 6 &7, a second collection will be taken to benefit this important program. Currently, the fund provides for more than 100 priests who are retired. Over the next ten years, that number is expected to increase significantly. With minimal compensation, and in many cases, no pension, these men often retire with nothing to fall back upon. Your contributions can change that. The priest retirement Fund offers us a way to give back to our Catholics priests who have served us so faithfully. Join us for a PINOY brunch raising funds for a water pump in St. Benedict s Village A rese lement community for typhoon Haiyan survivors Backgrounder: Sambayanan ni SAN BENITO Sunday, June 7, :00am to 9:00pm, Parish Hall Serving a selec on of favorite dishes from the Philippines! San Benito, rebuilding a er super typhoon Haiyan. People rebuild their homes a er the storm. This is not so true in the province of Leyte in the Philippines which was ravaged by super typhoon Haiyan in The gravity of devasta on has le survivors homeless even a er nearly two years. In November 2014, sta s cs show that 2.5 million people remain without proper homes or are s ll living in temporary shelter which does not protect them from the onslaught of oncoming storms every year. Sahaya Interna onal is suppor ng a local ini a ve by St. Scholas ca's College Manila in rebuilding homes and lives. A habitable loca on in the remote community of Palo, Leyte, a coastal community which received the ini al impact of the storm, has been secured for a rese lement program. The San Benito Village, named a er St. Benedict of Norcia, will be the new home of thirty families providing more than a roof over their heads. The residents will receive smallscale livelihood opportuni es to help them stand on their feet. Other essen als are kitchen supplies, home repair kits, community gardens, day care center, mul -purpose hall, a chapel, service road, fence and gate, and a communal water source. Sahaya Interna onal will help raise funds for the installa on of the communal water source. One manual deep well water pump will provide clean water to five households. The San Benito Village will need 6 water pumps to service all residents. The cost of each water pump is $2,500. Access to clean water is an essen al human need that is becoming a luxury due to consequences of climate change or merely the scarcity of resources. Clean water nourishes, cleanses and prevents spread of diseases. It's an essen al need specially to remote communi es with limited resources. The San Benito Village has teamed up with Habitat for Humanity in designing structurally-sound homes. Other interna onal charity organiza ons have been invited to lead certain sec ons of the program. With the success of the first rese lement site, it is envisioned that more San Benito Villages would sprout around the province of Leyte rebuilding homes, communi es and lives. Please join us in a thirst quenching gi of hope for the survivors of super typhoon Haiyan. Our goal is to install six deep well water sources for the first village and in the promising other rese lement areas. Each pump costs $2,500. All dona ons are tax deduc ble.
