3 May 27, 2018, Solemnity of The Most Holy Trinity From the Pastor s Desk Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, After almost fourteen weeks of Lent and Easter, we have come into Ordinary Time again, but just so we do not think that there is nothing special about this Season, the Church has given us Feasts to celebrate. Today is Holy Trinity Sunday, and while it is special in that it reminds us of the Perfect relationship between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, it is also special for me, as this day fell on the weekend of my priestly ordination, although it was in June that year. Next Sunday, we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi; no not the town in Texas, but the Blessed Sacrament after which it was named. This feast day focuses our attention on the Eucharist, the Body of Christ, which we participate in and receive at Mass, and adore in the tabernacle and monstrance. Since this is such an important part of our Faith, the most important part of our Faith, we will be having a procession again this year, beginning at the conclusion of the 11:30am Mass. After Mass, we will process up North Ocean Ave, to Harris, over to 112, south to Lincoln and back onto the church property and to the church for the Benediction. Please join in this act of veneration. Many people are away this weekend, and others are planning various days with friends and relatives, as we enjoy the unofficial beginning of the Summer, coming on the tail of a particularly long winter. But please take some time to remember what we are observing on Monday, Memorial Day. This is a day set aside to honor those men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice, serving in the military of this country, so that we could enjoy the rights and freedoms that are ours, and so that others might come to freedom in their lands. Maybe some of those who gave their lives in service are people you knew, maybe they were members of your family, recent or long ago, the majority of them would be unknown to you, yet they gave everything for each of us, for the country they loved, and for those they served beside. Please take a minute or two to remember those who sacrificed every moment they had left. Thank you to all those who came out this weekend to help with clean-up and planting, because of all of you, the parish is looking better each day. We have come a long way in the past eleven months, and there is still a way to go, but we continue to walk together as a parish community, and everyday we grow in the vision of God s Kingdom. Word keeps coming to me, that people at the diocesan level want to know what we are doing out here, why there is such life in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, my only response is that the people here are in love with Jesus Christ and the community of believers He has called them to be a part of. This community of believers will celebrate their 100 th Anniversary as a parish next year, and we are planning many events and activities to mark the centennial, but we need help. Most things done in the parish are done by the same people, and not only are they tired and stretched thin, but there is also a desire to see new people take the leadership in this parish community. Next weekend, after the Masses, we will again be asking people to sign up for Anniversary activities. Please take some time to talk to Linda Locantore, our Chair for the 100 th Anniversary, and see what we can do together. Last month I mentioned Formed, and was excited about this program that we were signing up for, and elsewhere in this bulletin should be the information you need to set up your own account, and begin enjoying this Faith based movie, show and catechetical data base. Please take a look at it, see if there are programs you would rather have the children you love watching, and the adults you love too. Once again have a Happy and Safe Memorial Day Weekend, God Bless America and God Rest those who died defending her. Pax, Fr. Henry

4 May 27, 2018 The Most Holy Trinity THE RESPONSIBILITY OF OUR FAITH Today is a day simply to ponder the fact that in baptism we were claimed by God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The first reading from Deuteronomy prompts us to fix in our hearts the truth that God is the Lord of both heaven and earth and there is no other god. Saint Paul reminds us that, because we received the Spirit of adoption in baptism, we are now children of God. In the Gospel Jesus charges us with the responsibility to make other disciples. These realities make today s solemnity a day of praise, adoration, and responsibility. It is a fitting day to thank God for the absolutely free gift of faith that we were given in baptism. It is also a day to ask God for strength to take on the responsibility of sharing that faith with others. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: 1 Pt 1:3-9; Ps 111:1-2, 5-6, 9-10c; Mk 10:17-27 Tuesday: 1 Pt 1:10-16; Ps 98:1-4; Mk 10:28-31 Wednesday: 1 Pt 1:18-25; Ps 147:12-15, 19-20; Mk 10:32-45 Thursday: Zep 3:14-18a or Rom 12:9-16; Is 12:2-3, 4bcd-6; Lk 1:39-56 Friday: 1 Pt 4:7-13; Ps 96:10-13; Mk 11:11-26 Saturday: Jude 17, 20b-25; Ps 63:2-6; Mk 11:27-33 Sunday: Ex 24:3-8; Ps 116:12-13, 15-18; Heb 9:11-15; Mk 14:12-16, SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: The Most Holy Trinity Monday: Eighth Week in Ordinary Time; Memorial Day Thursday The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Friday: St. Justin; First Friday Saturday: Ss. Marcellinus and Peter; Blessed Virgin Mary; First Satur Day TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION One of the great treasures of the Eastern tradition is the icon of the Holy Trinity created by the Russian iconographer Andrei Rublev in the 1400s. The Trinity is symbolized by the three travelers to the tent of Abraham and Sarah. They are seated at a table blessing a cup of wine, under the oak of Mamre. If you look closely, you will see a sacrificed calf in the chalice, reminding the viewer of the cross. The table, prepared for eating and tilted toward the viewer, is an invitation to the Eucharist. From left to right, each figure is keyed to a person of the Trinity. Like all icons, this image is theology in art. The persons are equal in proportion and dignity, they all carry staffs to symbolize their power, and are shown with golden wings and halos. Today, the best place to see Rublev s work is the Holy Trinity Cathedral, at the heart of the vast Holy Trinity monastery about an hour from Moscow. After decades of persecution, it is now once again a living monastery, a world heritage site, and the spiritual home of Russian Orthodoxy. A Google visit is highly recommended today! Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

5 FLIP FLOPS NEEDED Can you donate inexpensive flip flops for children to be sent with clothing items to the missions. Each child receives clothing and flip flops Thank you very much the new sewing group is in need of them. Drop off at Parish Center BOY SCOUTS In case you missed the Boy Scouts at the clean ups, they were camping the f1st time and they are placing the American Flags on Military graves for Memorial Day. They do this every Memorial Day. Perhaps you can learn how to help out and how to move them and put them away for next year. The Knights of Columbus Council 725 will be selling Golf Raffles before and after masses until the Golf Tournament. If you think you can sell tickets please ask. If you know of a group that Golfs please give them the information. This event will profit both OLMC and St. Francis so we have to participate in order to receive. WHY? There is a round table that services OLMC, St. Francis, and 2 others. The men from those Churches make up Council 725. At OLMC we mainly see the Knights that are our parishioners but a lot of Knights from other parishes in the Round Table come and aide us. WHY? We have the greatest need and we are so very grateful to these men that freely give their time to service OLMC anytime/every time it is needed.
