After a long and very hot summer, fall is finally here! The cooler temperatures will be arriving soon, which will energize and invigorate us for all of the activities going on at Christ the King this month and in the months to come. Youhavenodoubtseenthebulldozers on our property, which means Phase I of our Master Plan is now underway! Please be sure to check out Father David s article on page 2 in which he gives us an overview of what is happening now and what to expect in the coming months. In addition to the buzz of activity outside, we also have a lot of activities going on inside. Please mark your calendars for the following events:. For those wanting to learn more about the Episcopal Church, Father David will be teaching a class called each Sunday in October from 10:00 a.m. This class will give you an opportunity to learn more about the basics of the Episcopal Church and to ask any questions you may have. Wednesday Evening Bible Study Series. Please join us each Wednesday in October from 6:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m. for dinner, Bible study, and prayer. Each week, we will study a parable of Jesus that focuses on grace and forgiveness. All ages are welcome, and nursery care for the little ones will be provided. Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by Bible study, and then closing prayers. Family Photographs. Our very talented photographer, Rachel Taylor, will be taking family photographs on Sunday, October 9th, and Sunday, October 23rd. If you have not yet had your picture taken for our picture wall or simply want a new picture, please plan on having your picture taken on October 9th or October 23rd. See Additional Upcoming Events on Page 4
2 October 2016 Page 2 of 8 From the Desk of David I would like to give you an update on the construction on our property. For the past three years, our congregation has been praying about how to improve our facilities in order to enhance our ministries at Christ the King. Working with an architect, we created a Master Plan, which lays out a long term vision for our property. The work you see happening now is Phase I of the Master Plan. The full details are visible on the wall at the church. The cost for the project is an estimated $900,000. In 2015, our congregation began a Capital Campaign seeking to raise $400,000. We successfully raised that amount in pledges. Giving is over a three year period that spans We are hoping to continue to receive new pledges toward this effort. You will hear more about this effort in November. Father David Nelson None of this would have been possible without your incredible generosity. Earlier this year, we put forth our proposal to the Diocese of Texas. The plan was enthusiastically approved in April. Next, we completed a bridge loan through Amegy Bank. We had some delays and plenty of red tape, but we finalized the loan this summer and our general contractors (Alpine Construction) are off and running! I want to give you an overview of what to expect in the near future. The paperwork with the bank indicates this is a year long project beginning in September 2016 and ending in August However, our contractors are eager to do this project as quickly as possible, and they would like to complete it within seven months. Of course, weather provides a variable that we simply cannot predict, so we do not have a finalized timeline My best guess is the project will be completed in late spring or early summer. Here is how the project will be done. Currently, bulldozers are clearing the ground so that the foundation for our Parish Hall can be laid. A retention pond is also being dug. The pipes have already been laid for that. Electrical workwill begin soon, which will include lighting in the parking lot as well as work in the new building. Alpine recently said they will be able to repair the church roof this fall. Once everything is complete on the project, then the parking lot will be redone. That is the latest on our construction. What an exciting time it is to see this transformation. None of this would have been possible without your incredible generosity. Yours in Christ, Fr. David

What a great way to kick off the school year! Father David blessed the backpacks and prayed for the kids carrying them, as well as for the teachers who work so hard to make certain our kids are given the tools they need to succeed in their future education endeavors.
