1 Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church PHAROS Celebrating Our 13th Year of Publication! Our Parish is in such a wonderful and exciting time in its history, with progress being made everyday and every time people meet and work together for the good of our Church. Our Festival this year was a great success. Congratulations to Chairman George Pappas, and Vice Chairpeople Maria Nicolaides and John Chrisomallis along with everyone who worked to make it the great success that it was. Let us remember that our Church is our faith in Jesus Christ and our Holy Greek Orthodox Faith which unites us as a family and brings us together to pray and worship. Secondly, we are united as Greeks and have a wonderful social support and the greatest cultural things of life. When we place God and our Church as our number one priority then miracles can and do happen. I have personally seen miracles happen in our community as I watch parishioners lives transformed by the power of God. Many parishioners have been healed by the grace of God and with the help of his saints, especially through the help of St. Nicholas. I have seen lives Message from Father of many emerge from chaos into order as they place their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. I have personally been touched by God s grace, love and mercy in the last year, and I continue to work in His service every day. It s not about winning or losing, but how we handle what life gives us. God will always be there for us. I am thankful to God that He continues to bless our Church and keep us united. Many wonderful things have been happening as we plan for the future of our Community. We must have long term goals in order to ensure the future of our Church and Community. I thank God for the unified Parish Councils that have served over the past years. It has been a pleasure working with all the members of the many committees as they have given their time, talent and treasures in making St. Nicholas more active and productive. The project of the Plateia is an indication that we are working for the future of our Church. A master plan is being devised for the rest of the properties that we have acquired and what we need to do JULY/AUGUST, 2005 about enlarging the present Church or building a larger one. These all remain for the immediate future and they need to be discussed and implemented and I know that God will guide us to make the best decisions for our Parish. Our Greek School continues to be one of the best Greek language Schools in the area. We take learning the Greek language seriously and any child, who truly wants to learn, can learn. Our Sunday School is constantly being updated and new sources added to the curriculum. Goya has continued to flourish and enrollment is constantly increasing. Volunteers are needed so we may have a JOY program this Fall. Contact me if you are willing to help in this area. The St. Nicholas Diamonds continue to thrive as they tend to the needs of our senior parishioners. New members are always welcome to participate in the many varied activities and trips. With all of God s blessings for a wonderful and pleasant summer, I remain Your servant in the Lord, Fr. Manuel The 2005 Festival! Ellinakia Dance Group, performing.

In so doing it is appropriate to pause, reflect, thank, and honor the memory of the countless Americans who have built our nation, the longest surviving democracy in history. As our Founding Founders did, it is appropriate that we thank God, who gave them the wisdom and stamina to forge our nation. It is appropriate that we remember and never forget that the very foundations of the United States of America are based on God s principles and His Grace and that He has blessed us abundantly. Despite our problems, America is still the land to which thousands flock, risking life and limb in hopes of attaining a better life. The awesome responsibility of solving the problems that our fledgling country faces and perpetuating the valuable gift that our Founding Fathers bestowed upon us rests with each of us. Becoming active in our communities and reviving our faith in God s guidance will ensure that America will endure and thrive for many generations to come. The Fourth of July is not merely another day off holiday, but the perfect day for committing ourselves to God and country; for it is the ONE holiday, which all Americans have in common, the ONE day which unites all of us. Happy 229th Birthday America!
