2 Catechism Class Can you Explain Your Orthodox Faith? This is a 12 week class that started on January 14th and meets every Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm. In it is covered the basic doctrine of the Orthodox Church and the elements of an Orthodox way of life that leads to union with God. It is essential that we know the path to union with God for eternal life that Jesus has shown us and given to us through His Church. Please contact Dn. Charles if interested. cjoiner@mac.com You can also contact the church office. Lenten Program: Orthodox Way of Love The teachings of Saint Porphyrios in Wounded by Love To begin this series of reflections on the teachings of Saint Palamas we have invited Abbess Paulina from the Paracletos Greek Orthodox Monastery to share with us some of her personal encounters with this most recent Saint. This special talk will be in Greek but translated in English by Sister Mariam. It is rare for the Abbess to venture from the monastery so make an effort to come to this first session even if you are not able to attend the following weekly discussions. She brings a deep spirituality as well as highly educated and well-read mind. Her experiences will give you a sense of the special nature of this new saint and his extraordinary powers. Following this first session we will meet weekly on Monday nights to discuss the teachings of Saint Porphyrios on the Orthodox Way of Love as recorded in the book, Wounded by Love. Set aside your Monday evenings during Great Lent 6-7pm to participate in these interactive reflections. Abbess Pavlina will speak on Monday, February 5th at 6:00pm in the lower level of

5 Panagia Chapel Thyranoixia (Door Opening) The door opening ceremony for the Panagia Chapel at the Diakonia Retreat Center has been re-scheduled for Saturday, September 29th. Please make plans to attend this joyous celebration for a church that will serve our metropolis for decades to come! A special, miraculous icon of the Panagia is being brought from our Metropolitan s monastery on Mount Athos, Vatopaidi, for the occasion. It is something not to be missed! 2018 Parish Council Officers We are pleased to announce the new officers for the 2018 parish council! Elections were held at the first parish council meeting of 2018 and the following results occured: President: Lynda Leventis-Wells Vice-President: Jimmy Georgiades Secretary: John Stathakis Treasurer: Shane Taylor Assistant Treasurer: Rusty Foxhall We are honored to have a great group of hard-working people in our parish council, and we continue to pray for them as they lead us in the years ahead. May God continue to give them wisdom, patience, and love as they develop their talents in their service to our beloved parish of Saint George. May they always be worthy! - Fr. Tom Mosaic Icon Project The weather has not been kind to our progress of the installation of our mosaic icons in the Cathedral. We are working diligently for the good of all of us. Despite the weather delays, we are very excited, as we know you all are, for the completion of these truly glorious windows to heaven. On January 18th a WYFF reporter was on-site remembering the initial phase of the mosaic icon installation years ago, and will return to document the completion of this phase. - Lynda Leventis-Wells
