A N N U N C I A T I O N D C.OR G FIRST READING: ACTS 9:26-31 Paul the Apostle came to Jerusalem, where the other disciples were afraid of him. Then they learned that the Lord had spoken to Paul and he had preached openly in Damascus. When they learned that someone wanted to kill him, they protected him because they fully believed he had converted. SECOND READING: I JOHN 3:18-24 John clearly states that we must love one another. All people who believe in Jesus Christ can show their faith only through their actions. If people believe in Jesus and love one another as he commanded us, they prove that they are true believers in Christ. GOSPEL: JOHN 15:1-8 Jesus compares himself to a vine, and compares his father to the vine-grower. He explains how God prunes the barren branches so that the rest might yield more fruit. He reminds them that apart from himself, his followers could not bear fruit. CELEBRATING THE SACRAMENTS B A P T I S M : The sacrament joyfully celebrates the entrance of members into our Catholic community. Baptisms are celebrated on Saturday mornings at 9:45am or by appointment, following preparation of the parents. Baptisms for adults take place through the RCIA process. CONFIRMATION: Through the sacrament of confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation is offered to adults through the RCIA process, and annually for our eighth-grade students. As with the other sacraments of initiation, preparation is involved. MATRIMONY: Couples should contact the parish office as soon as possible or at least six months in advance of the desired wedding date to make arrangements for preparation. RITE OF CHRISTIAN IN ITIATION FOR A DULTS: For those who are interested in finding out more information about the Catholic faith and/or interested in becoming Catholic. Please call the parish office. A NOINTING OF THE SICK: Our parish continues Christ s ministry of making whole the members of our community who suffer physical or emotional ills with Anointing of the Sick. Please call the parish office if you would like to receive this sacrament.

The carpentry trade in first-century Palestine covered building houses, which were mostly made of wood; by tradition, Jesus joined the family business. Throughout church history, Joseph was honored as a craftsman, but this feast was set in 1956 to give Christian meaning to what had become a secular association of May 1 with labor. 5 5 April 29, 2018 FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER POPE S CORNER THE SWEETNESS OF OUR LADY We are in need today of the sweetness of Our Lady to understand the things that Jesus asks of us. It is not an easy list to put into practice; love your enemies, do good, give without hoping for anything in return, to him who strikes you offer the other cheek, to him who takes your cloak offer your tunic as well. These are heavy demands. But all of them were lived by Our Lady in her own way. Homily, Domus Sanctae Marthae, Feast of the Holy Name of Mary, September 12, 2013 Reflection: Mary lived in poverty under the oppressive government of the Roman Empire. She constantly had opportunities to put love into practice, both in the grind of her daily life as a woman of poverty and when enduring the demands of the government. Ask Mary to teach you the way of Jesus. Ask her to help you learn to think and act with mercy. THE POPE S PRAYER INTENTIONS The Holy Father asks for our prayers for a specific intention each month. 6 ANNUNCIATION CATHOLIC CHURCH 6 CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE Last year we conducted our capital campaign to raise the funds necessary to renovate our parish facilities. We have $1,030,861 pledged, with $587,033 received to date. I am truly thankful to you for your generosity. We will begin sending out reminders to parishioners who have outstanding balances on their pledges. The cost of renovating our parish facilities is quite high. The generosity and commitment demonstrated by our parishioners is very inspiring. Thank you for joining your fellow parishioners who continue to assist us financially in this effort.
