3 Worship and Spiritual Life A Word of Farewell from Fr. Martin Bourke Some years ago my sister Maureen took me to Drumcliff cemetery in County Sligo, Ireland. For the first time I was able to stand at the grave of Ireland s Poet, William Butler Yeats. As I stood there, I recalled a short verse attributed to him. Think where man s glory most begins and ends and say my glory was I had such friends. To the people of Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Perpetual Help parishes, thank you for your friendship over these past 8 months. You made me feel very welcome. The girl, a child of twelve, arose immediately and walked around. At that they were utterly astounded. He gave strict orders that no one should know this and said that she should be given something to eat.

Coffee & donuts will be served in Hensen Hall after the 8:30 & 11:30 Masses. Rebekah was a stay-athome mom with three little ones when her situation changed and she had to get a job, arrange for day care and pay the rent with no funds available. Immaculate Conception St. Vincent de Paul helps many Rebekahs each month: we help single people just out of hospital with no bed to sleep in, families experiencing job cuts & eviction and seniors about to have their lights turned off. Your generous contributions make us able to continue helping in small ways while bringing the face of Christ to the needy. Thank you. The Children of the Tides How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is preferable to silver. Proverbs 16:16 To give a child a seat at school is the finest gift you can give. Pope Francis God of all wisdom, The tides of this world carry your children on many waves, Truly, sometimes, waves of hope. But also waves of migration, waves of war, Waves of political upheaval, waves of natural disaster, Currents that sometimes wash them beyond our reach. Lord, as we call to mind these youngest ones, Tossed on the seas of fate, We ask that you endow us all as educators. Bless our schools, Be they in buildings, in tents, or on a blanket under a tree, That we may bless our children, Bless our neighbor s children Bless all the children of this world With the tools of knowledge, The paths to wisdom And the keys to freedom. And when waves carry them beyond our horizons, They are not beyond the reach of learning. They are not beyond the reach of understanding. And someday, they will help us conquer those same tides: Together building peace, Together building just societies, With a place for all. Amen. The prayer on the left was shared by CRS this week. Recess shouldn t be for fetching water. Something amazing happened in a West African fourth-grade class last month: Everyone played during recess, and no one had to miss school to walk more than a mile to fetch water for their families. A clean water initiative by Catholic Relief Services, supported by people like you, provides the children with water at school. This newfound access to clean water is having a lasting impact on their entire community. Thank you for continuing to feed hungry families, protect vulnerable children, help farmers grow better crops and provide health care and clean water to remote communities. Contact Mary Chris for more information. Thank you...

6 Religious Education Announcements Vacation Bible Camp registration is OPEN!! Our fun-filled Christ-centered week is July Come play games, make crafts and eat snacks that all focus on growing closer to Jesus! Registration forms can be found online, in the Parish Office and in the vestibule of both churches. Can you help us? Please see the flyer in this week s bulletin for a list of supplies that we donated to help make our children s Vacation Bible Camp experience even more fantastic! Thank you so much, in advance, for your generosity! Coordinator s Corner I have completed nearly six months as the PAA for Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parishes. I remember during my interview Duane told me that he had no idea who my boss would be in six months I thought, hmm, that is so far away. Just like our children growing up, it happened in the blink of an eye. Now we know who our boss will be and I look forward to Father Joseph Altenhofen starting as our Pastor in just one short week. I want to say how very appreciative I am for the guidance and help from Duane Schireman. He is the epitome of a great boss. His presence will be missed but I have plans to keep him as involved as we can just in a different way. He has prepared all of the staff to continue to grow, learn and work together and we should not mourn his leaving, but embrace that we had him. He did what he set out to do, and we are all better parishioners, staff and volunteers because of him. ~Angel ***NOTICE*** The Parish Offices will be closed Wednesday in honor of Independence Day. Have a safe and happy 4th of July!
