A past tense narrative sequence may begin with a Perfect verb followed by any number of converted Imperfect verbs. ו ה א ד ם י דע א ת ח וּ ה א שׁ תּוֹ ו תּ ה ר ו תּ ל ד א ת קי ן And Adam knew Eve his wife, and then she conceived, and then she bore Cain (Gen 4:1). 2. A past tense narrative sequence may begin with the temporal modifier ו י ה י followed by Imperfect verbs with. ו י ה י א ח רי מוֹת א ב רה ם ו י ב ר ך א לה ים א ת י צ ח ק בּ נוֹ And after the death of Abraham God blessed Isaac his son (Gen 25:11). 3. A past tense narrative sequence may begin with the converted Imperfect itself. ו יּ ק רא א ל מ שׁ ה ו י דבּ ר י הו ה א ל יו מ א ה ל מוֹע ד And he called to Moses and Yahweh spoke to him from the tent of meeting (Lev 1:1).
6 Chapter 17f - changes in spelling With א- I verbs like א מ ר and some י- I verbs (including Seghol. the stem vowel changes to,(ה ל ך say he will י אמ ר and he said ו יּ <אמ ר dwell he will י שׁ ב and he dwelt ו יּ <שׁ ב go he will י ל ך and he went ו יּ <ל ך Biconsonantal and ה- III verbs are shortened in converted Imperfect forms without a sufformative (except the 1cs). With Biconsonantal verbs, the medial vowel letter is lost. With ה- III verbs, the final ה drops off. up he will rise י קוּם <ק ם set he will י שׂ ים <שׂ ם build he will י ב נ ה <ב ן reveal he will י ג ל ה <ג ל and he rose up ו יּ and he set ו יּ and he built ו יּ and he revealed ו יּ

9 Chapter 17i - use of converted perfect 1. The future tense narrative sequence may begin with an Imperfect verb followed by any number of converted Perfect verbs. שׁ שׁ ת י מ ים תּ ע ב ד ו ע שׂ ית כּ ל מ ל אכ תּ ך Six days you will labor and (you will) do all your work (Deut 5:13). 2. The temporal modifier ו ה י ה may mark the beginning of a future tense narrative sequence. ו ה י ה בּ יּוֹם ה הוּא ו שׁ ב רתּ י א ת קשׁ ת י שׂ רא ל And in that day I will break the bow of Israel (Hos 1:5). 3. The converted Perfect will frequently follow an Imperative verb and carry the full force of the initial Imperative. ע מ ד בּ שׁ ע ר בּ ית י הו ה ו ק ראת שּׁ ם א ת ה דּ ב ר ה זּ ה ו א מ רתּ שׁ מ עוּ דב ר י הו ה Stand (Imperative) in the gate of Yahweh s house and (you will) proclaim there this word and (you will) say, Hear the word of Yahweh (Jer 7:2).
