3 From the desk of Father James I want to begin this week by saying thanks to everyone that participated and helped to make last weekend an amazing weekend for our parish. It was truly a blessing to see everyone that turned out for our parish feast celebrations. We began Saturday afternoon with our annual blessing of animals in honor of our patron St. Francis. It is always so much fun to see our parish families come with the rest of their family that doesn t always get to come to church. There were dogs and cats of all different sizes. There was a hamster and even a parakeet! Thank you for sharing your pets with me and our other parishioners. I look forward to seeing you and the fur-babies next October! On Sunday, Archbishop Sample was here for the 8:00 am and 10:30 am Masses. It is good to have the Shepherd of our Archdiocese here with us. He gave a great homily about God s mercy and how we can receive the mercy and the great power that He has to forgive us our sins when we come to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Between the morning Masses Archbishop paid a visit to our Faith Formation classes that were starting for the year and blessed the classes and the catechists for the year! Finally, Archbishop joined us for our picnic! We had a great turn-out of our parish family that came together to celebrate our patron St. Francis. May St. Francis indeed look kindly upon each one of us so that our families may be blessed and may continue the Good work of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ and using words when necessary! We are continuing to finish up the work on the curved wall in the parish center. We should be wrapping up the project soon and then with just a few finishing touches it will be complete. I want to thank everyone that has helped us to make these much needed and necessary repairs to the Church and Parish Center. While our initial project grew exponentially from what we were first going to do, it was indeed with God s blessing and your generosity that we could make this happen. Thank you for your stewardship in helping to preserve our parish facilities and to keep them safe and secure for the future!! Blessings in Christ, Fr. James In the Spirit of St. Francis To all the volunteers, especially the youth, who helped with the picnic by setting up, running around during the event and cleaning-up. To the Knights of Columbus for barbequing the hamburgers and hot dogs for the picnic. To Chris Welters for blowing the church grounds. In the Spirit of St. Francis...THANK YOU! St. Francis Parish would like to welcome all newcomers and visitors. We turn your attention to the Ministry Table in the narthex of the church where you will find information on the various ministries in our parish and how to contact the coordinator. New parishioners are encouraged to register by calling the office at We welcome you as we welcome Christ! 3
4 Faith Formation Registration Faith Formation classes are off to a great start! Archbishop Sample graciously stopped by each classroom last Sunday and blessed the children! Rosary Makers Ministry: Our mission is to make and teach others to complete rosaries, which will be blessed and distributed to individuals and worthy causes both locally and in ministries throughout the world. Our goals are to encourage evangelization and the recitation of the Rosary, both within and beyond our parish community, while building fellowship amongst rosary makers. We will meet at regular intervals to pray the rosary and make rosaries. Since this is a new ministry, details such as how often and when we will meet are still pending. Most rosary ministries meet once a week or once per month. If you are interested in this new ministry, please contact Jennifer Mirek in the parish office with your contact information and any feedback on your availability to meet. Thank you! The Hope Shelter opens for the season on Sunday, November 5. We have been serving those experiencing homelessness in our area for 6 years. We, along with a network of churches and nonprofits in the county, provide meals, showers, laundry, and a warm bed to many around the area. We need your help to keep this going strong! Please join us on Sunday, October 15 at the Old Hall for coffee and donuts. We will be hosting an open house for the Hope Shelter Ministry. This will be a chance to tour the facilities, ask questions, and see how the Hope Shelter is serving those in our community impacted by homelessness. 5
6 ST. FRANCIS SCHOOL CATHOLIC EDUCATION Catholic education is more than simply being a family; it s more than being a Home, a School, a Parish and a Playground. Besides helping our students develop holistically, there are the practical aspects of overseeing this one-of-akind business. The financial challenges of providing the best education possible, at an affordable tuition, are seemingly endless. Thank you to everyone who contributes regularly (such as monthly envelopes), or has assisted St. Francis School in years past. CELEBRATION TIME It s just two weeks to one of the biggest events of the year for us! Previously called an auction, our primary fundraiser may be better thought of as a gala: a festive celebration, which includes auction elements. This event is for adults, 21 and up. Please consider attending this, our 15 th year! Your investment helps St. Francis School: Provide tuition assistance and scholarship aid to students Recruit, retain, and develop the best available faculty Utilize 21 st Century technology, and pedagogical best practices Conduct improvements to our campus and curriculum Provide overall support for our operating budget Right: The first Let s Eat Out night of the school year will be at The Old Spaghetti Factory. Next Week: What dose the tenth commandment forbid? Walk with each other. Do not be afraid to embrace God s gift of life. Whatever storms or trials we face, we are not alone. He is with us. "Behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age." (Matthew 28:20) ~USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities, Respect Life Program Sunday, October 8 Where All Are Welcomed and Loved With Mercy - Day 938 Today we are suffering from a crisis which is about concern for human resources, for the needs of our brothers and sisters living in extreme poverty, and especially for the many children in our world lacking adequate education, health care and nutrition.
