As a parish we give thanks to the men/women who volunteered as teachers. Many parents also saw to it that attendance on Sunday mornings was a priority. (Church attendance during the months of recess needs also to be a priority! We have experienced a dip in numbers once the ECF year ends.) The following students earned attendance rewards. On Saturday the second grade class will experience the Sacrament of Confession for the first time. (Please report to the church vestibule by 10:00. Parents are urged to show an example by utilizing the sacrament that day as well.) The next day the group will renew their baptismal vows, recite the Profession of Faith, and receive the Eucharist as a group. (Please be in the hall by 10:00.) Although we don t have a week scheduled to date, we are hoping to once again offer Vacation Bible School in July.

Percic The real measure of our wealth is what will be ours in eternity. Make it a Family Affair St. Gregory of Nyssa Every Christian is called to holiness. The story of the fourth century saint, Gregory of Nyssa, and his family, bears witness to this reality. St. Gregory was known as one of the Cappadocian Fathers along with St. Gregory of Nazianzus and his brother, St. Basil the Great. And St. Gregory s family was steeped in holy men and women! Along with St. Basil, three of Gregory s other siblings went on to become saints: St. Macrina the Younger, St. Naucratius and St. Peter of Sebaste. St. Gregory s parents were the primary witnesses for these saints as they grew up. They suffered persecution for their faith including having their goods confiscated for confessing Christ. St. Gregory s grandmother, Macrina the Elder, is revered as a saint and his grandfather was martyred for the faith. St. Gregory attended the first Council of Constantinople in 381, during which the Nicene Creed was confirmed. The Trinitarian discourse of the Cappadocian Fathers was influential at this council. St. Gregory also traveled to Arabia to settle disputes among the churches in that region. He is thought of as an original thinker, and is well-known for his theological writings on the Trinity and universal salvation. St. Gregory and his family serve as an example of the responsibility we have to both walk the path to holiness ourselves and to help our brothers and sisters in Christ along the way.
4 The Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a Baby/Sibling Shower for Father Jan for Cizmar Children and Jana Cizmar (she is due in July with their fourth child). Similar to the Christmas Giving Tree, a display will be set up in the vestibule next weekend. If you would like to participate, select a card, purchase the gift, wrap it and return it with the card (signed or anonymous) by May 15. The BLESS group will be having a pot luck dinner/game night in the Activity Center on Monday, April 25 at 6:30. We anticipate work to begin no later than the week of May 9. Please remember all of the sick/suffering in your prayers, especially Dan Kattler (Metro); Betty Moeller (Southwest); Joe Kochis (Parma); Tom Shaver (St. Thomas, Akron); Mary Jane Shaver (The Oaks, rehab); Mary Jane Dietz (Greenbrier Healthcare, rehab); Charlotte Picha (St. Augustine Towers, rehab) and Donna Neal (home). A 65 year old woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. While on the operating table she had a near death experience. Seeing God she asked, "Is my time up?" God said, "No, you have another 33 years, 2 months and 8 days to live." Upon recovery, the woman decided to stay in the hospital and have a face-lift, liposuction, breast implants and a tummy tuck. She even had someone come in and change her hair color and brighten her teeth! Since she had so much more time to live, she figured she might as well make the most of it. After her last operation, she was released from the hospital. While crossing the street on her way home, she was killed by an ambulance. Arriving in front of God, she asked, "I thought you said I had another 33 years? Why didn't you pull me from out of the path of the ambulance?" 5 The Black Dot One day a professor entered the classroom and asked his students to prepare for a surprise test. They waited anxiously at their desks for the test to begin. The professor handed out the exam with the text facing down as usual. Once he handed them all out, he asked his students to turn the paper over. To everyone s surprise, there were no questions just a black dot in the center of the page. The professor seeing the expression on everyone s face, told them the following: I want you to write about what you see there. The students were confused, but got started on the inexplicable task. At the end of the class, the professor took all the answer papers and started reading each one of them aloud in front of all the students. All of them with no exceptions, described the black dot, trying to explain its position to the middle of the sheet. After all had been read, the classroom silent, the professor began to explain. I am not going to grade on you this, I just wanted to give you something to think about. No one wrote about the white part of the paper. Everyone focused on the black dot and the same happens in our lives. We have a white paper to observe and enjoy, but we always focus on the dark spots. Our life is a gift given to us by God, with love and care, and we always have reasons to celebrate nature renewing itself everyday, our friends around us, the job that provides our livelihood, the miracles we see everyday However, we insist on focusing only on the dark spots the health issues that bother us, the lack of money, the complicated relationship with a family member, the disappointment with a friend, etc. The dark spots are very small compared to everything we have in our lives, but they are the ones that pollute our mind. Take your eyes away from the black spots in your life. Enjoy each one of your blessings, each moment that life gives you.
