IT S DUES TIME Most Lodges have extended the date for Lodge dues to be remitted until April. If you haven t gotten your dues in yet, now is the time. Every year the task is initiated to contact those Brethren who have not paid their dues. In many cases, members are suspended for non-payment of dues because we have no current information on them in order to make contact. During my year as Worshipful Master, we were voting on suspensions only to have a Brother stand up to announce that the member we were about to suspend was a good friend of his and that the member had passed away a couple weeks prior. Up to that time, no one ever reported the death to our Secretary or any other person; therefore, we were about to suspend a deceased Brother. How many times has this happened? I encourage you to let your family members know that if your status changes, they need to contact your Lodge Secretary and report it. Often a family member believes there is no reason to pay your dues since you cannot get to Lodge meetings because of health issues and as a result you are suspended. By paying your dues and being in good Masonic standing you and/or your spouse may be eligible to take advantage of some of the services offered by the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania through the Masonic Outreach Program. These include: financial assistance, an attorney to provide legal counsel, a finance panel to assist with basic financial and budgeting skills, a durable medical equipment loan closet and assistance in helping you understand what services may be available to you and make referral information available on community and governmental programs. Masonic Funerals are also an option your family may request. Remember, your family must make the request to the Lodge for a Masonic Funeral, it is not automatic. Please make it a point to let your family know if you would like a Masonic Funeral when you pass and provide them the information on who to contact when that time comes.

Revels, (R-Miss,) became the first African-American member of US Senate when he was sworn in to serve out the unexpired term of Jefferson Davis. A Prince Hall Freemason, he served as Grand Chaplain of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Ohio. At the outbreak of the Civil War he helped organize the first two African-American regiments in Maryland. He also served as Chaplain of one of these regiments. He died January 16, 1901.
