Listen to the children say the Ten Commandments. PRESESSION ACTIVITY: 1. OLDER CHILD: You Can Talk to God! 2. YOUNGER CHILD: Tabernacle Activity Sheet #2 SONG: (1 minute) PRAYER: (4 minutes) 1. Prayer song: 2. Ask the children to share any Thank You Prayers or Please Prayers they have. 3. Lead the class in Thank You and Please prayers. MEMORY VERSE: (7 minutes) Revelation 1:5... Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood. (The underlined portion of the verse indicates what the younger children should memorize. See Involvement Helps for Younger Children for helps in teaching the verse to the younger children.) Hot Potato After reading the verse from your Bible, explaining what it means, and repeating it at least two times, you may begin this drill. Have the children pass an object, such as a black heart made from construction paper, as the verse is repeated. Whoever is holding the object at the end gets an opportunity to say the verse. If he is successful, he has the choice of playing again or sitting out while the remainder of the group continues to play. If he cannot say the verse, he has no choice; he must play again. HYMN FOR TABERNACLE: (2 minutes) BIBLE LESSON: (20 minutes) TABERNACLE #2 God s Willingness to Be With His People (See Involvement Helps for Younger Children for ways to involve the children in the Bible lesson.) COUNSEL TIME: (If you have a helper, hostess, or Teacher Junior Grade, let them do the review time while you counsel those who responded to the invitation. Otherwise, at the end of club, be sure to remind the children who responded to the invitation to stay after club for a few minutes.) QUIET TIME NOTEBOOK: (1 minute) Briefly highlight what was learned from last week s Quiet Time. Ask the children to do one per day before the next club. Remind them that they must show you their Q.T. Notebook next week.
2 SPECIAL: TEN COMMANDMENTS Review: (3 minutes) Recognize those who have learned the Ten Commandments. Have them stand and announce that they are now on the Ten Commandment Honor Roll. Review the Ten Commandments. Using the visuals from MOSES #8, read each commandment, but stop from time to time and allow the children to finish the commandment. OR Have the children read the commandment with you. MISSIONARY TIME: (16 minutes) 1. Sing chorus while child comes to look in the Go and Tell Box. 2. Share missionary information for Week #16 using the Go and Tell Box. (See attached page.) 3. Pray for the missionary. 4. Show goal chart and mention the amount given so far. 5. Missions song: 6. Story: Secret in the Woods. Teach the portion of the story listed under Week #6. REVIEW ACTIVITY: (6 minutes) Use the activity below or the Bible Learning Game from the Involvement Helps for Younger Children. Tabernacle Same as last week. Review questions for TABERNACLE #2: 1. What was the large piece of furniture just inside the door as you enter into the court of the Tabernacle? (Bronze or brazen altar.) 2. What was the altar made of? (Wood covered with bronze.) 3. How do the wood and bronze remind us of Jesus? (The wood reminds us that Jesus became a man. Bronze is a strong metal and hard to shape. It reminds us that Jesus is strong and that He doesn t change His mind about what is right and wrong.) 4. What was the altar used for? (To sacrifice animals.) 5. Why did God tell His people to bring animals for sacrifice? (The animal died instead of the person to pay for sin.) 6. What animals were used as a sacrifice? (Bulls, doves, or lambs.) 7. What important instructions did God give His people in choosing the animal for sacrifice? (It had to be perfect no broken bones, sore eyes, wounds in flesh, scratches, or scars.) 8. Why is the animal sacrifice a reminder of Jesus? (He is perfect without sin. When He died on the cross, He took our place, and His blood cleanses us from our sin.) 9. Who were the only ones allowed to go beyond the brazen altar? (The priests.) 10. The second piece of furniture in the court was the laver, what was the laver used for? (The priests washed their hands and feet in it when they were finished with their work at the altar.) 11. Why does the laver remind us of Jesus? (As we learn more about Jesus, we see that we are not like Him. We are sinful and need to be made clean.) 12. In our Bible Memory Verse we learned that Jesus did something special for us. What did He do? (Washed our sins away with His blood when He died on the cross.) *COUNSEL TIME: (*Only if you did not counsel with the children earlier.) SEND HOME WITH THE CHILDREN: 1. Pre-session papers for older and younger children 2. Memory verse token/take Time to Review 3. Quiet Time CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP OF EASTERN PA, INC. P.O. BOX 4375 HARRISBURG, PA
3 PRE-SESSION, Older Child TABERNACLE #2 You Can Talk to God!.
4 PRE-SESSION, Younger Child TABERNACLE #2... Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins.... Revelation 1:5
5 MEMORY VERSE HELPS THE TABERNACLE LESSON #2 God s Willingness to Be With His People Revelation 1:5... Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood. (The underlined portion of the verse indicates what the younger children should memorize.) USE the visual and let the children read the verse with you. READ the verse from your Bible while holding the visual so the children can follow along. DO MOTIONS together with the children while you EXPLAIN the verse as follows: Revelation 1:5 (Hold hands as an open Bible.)... Unto Him that loved us, (Point up. Cross arms in front of you as if you are hugging yourself. Point to yourself.) and washed us from our sins (Rub hand over heart like washing away of sins.) in His own blood. (Make cross with pointer fingers.) Revelation 1:5 (Hold hands as an open Bible.) This is the address (where the verse is located in the Bible). This verse is found in the book of Revelation, chapter 1, verse 5. The word Him is talking about Jesus. Jesus loves you and me so very much that He did something special for us. He takes away our sins when we receive Him as our Saviour. How did He do that? He died on the cross and gave His precious blood to wash away our sins. When we trust in Jesus as our Saviour, He cleanses us and takes away all our sins so that we don t have to be separated from God. We can live forever with Him in Heaven! The book of Revelation, chapter 1, verse 5. DRILL the verse with the activity listed on the Tabernacle #2 Agenda. TEST the children for their understanding of the verse. What does it mean to be washed from our sins? What did Jesus have to do so we could be cleansed, or forgiven of our sins? CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP OF EASTERN PA, INC. P.O. BOX 4375 HARRISBURG, PA
6 INVOLVEMENT HELPS FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN by Linda D. Ruth and Ralph Bechtel THE TABERNACLE #2 God s Willingness to Be With His People MEMORY VERSE: Shortened verse Revelation 1:5... Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins.... Revelation 1:5 Hold hands as an open Bible.... Unto Him Point to Heaven. that loved us, Arms across chest. and washed us from our sins.... Make a cross with pointer fingers. Revelation 1:5 Hold hands as an open Bible. BIBLE LESSON HELPS: Main Truth Illustration 14 Illustration 15 Each time Main Thrust is repeated, have children do the following motions. On God, point to Heaven. On you, point to self. On confess, move fingers of hand as if a mouth talking. On immediately, point to place on arm where a watch would be. Repeat together, Sin must be punished. Pretend you are rich bring a bull. Pretend you are neither rich nor poor bring a lamb. Pretend you are poor bring a dove. Put hand on head of your lamb. Look sad because of your sin. Close eyes. Pretend to pray. Sing to tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb Jesus is the Lamb of God, Lamb of God, Lamb of God. Jesus is the Lamb of God. He died (make cross with pointer fingers) for you and me. Illustration 17 Walk in place. Stop at the brazen altar, being careful to go no farther. Squint eyes as Phinehas might have done. Say together, It is so bright that it hurts my eyes. Pretend you are a priest washing hands and feet at the laver. BIBLE LEARNING GAME: An Offering for Sin Have children sit in a circle. Give one child a beanbag. Pass it around the circle as the children sing together (to the tune of Deep and Wide ): You and me, you and me, Jesus died on the cross for you and me. You and me, you and me, Jesus died on the cross for you and me. At the end, whoever is holding the beanbag names something that is sin. That child walks to the center of the circle and pretends to lay down an offering and wash his hands. Say, In the time of Moses, because of their sin, people brought an offering to the Tabernacle. But Jesus died on the cross for you. (Children form a cross with their pointer fingers.) His blood can wash away your sin. Repeat this procedure. CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP OF EASTERN PA, INC. P.O. BOX 4375 HARRISBURG, PA
7 GO AND TELL BOX Week #16 Who Are the Luttmanns? (Suggested item to put in the Go and Tell Box picture of song.) What do you think this song has to do with going and telling? (Let the children share their ideas.) This song visual reminds me of how helpful it is for missionary teachers to have visuals to use when teaching children. WHO ARE THE LUTTMANNS? (Use WHO wordstrip.) Let s meet one of our missionary families. This is Mr. and Mrs. Tom Luttmann who are missionaries with Bible Visuals International located in Akron, Pennsylvania. Let s call them Mr. Tom and Mrs. Betsy. (Show their picture, and point to the children.) They have five sons: Elijah is 12 years old, Samuel and David are 11 year-old twins and Jessie is 5 years old. They have a little sister, Ginger will be 4 this summer. Mr. Tom grew up living on an apple farm in Canada. His older brother told him about how Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment for his sins when he was just six years old, and he prayed to receive Jesus as his personal Saviour. Mr. Tom had the privilege of attending Bob Jones University. The first year he studied there, he learned the importance of serving the Lord Jesus. For two summers, Mr. Tom came to Eastern Pennsylvania and served as a summer missionary with CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP OF EASTERN PA, INC., teaching the Bible to boys and girls like you in neighborhood 5-Day Clubs. During the training that first summer he learned how to help children understand that they needed Jesus to be their personal Saviour. Mr. Tom is now in charge of the ministry of Bible Visuals International. They print materials like our songs and our missionary lessons that we use in Good News Club/Released Time Class. (Show Secret in the Woods visual.) LET S PRAY FOR OUR MISSIONARIES. THANK the Lord for Mr. Tom and his family who is serving the Lord by making printed materials available to missionaries for to teach children. PRAY that the Lord will give Mr. Tom wisdom in making decisions about what materials need to be printed. CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP OF EASTERN PA, INC. P.O. BOX 4375 HARRISBURG, PA, INC

O Overview PAS examples W Will you do it? - He knew altars were used for sacrifices to God - Eleazar, God asks us to bring animal sacrifices because of our sins - Sin must be punished; the same is true today! - Eleazar, Special wood from a small tree under bronze - Bible speaks of Jesus as a root out of a dry ground - Wood is a picture of Jesus O
10 - Phinehas saw the men working with the bronze - Just as bronze is strong, so the Lord Jesus is strong - Jesus does not change His mind about right and wrong - Brazen altar was bigger than any altar Phinehas had seen - Eleazar, Rich people bring large sacrifices cattle from their herds - Phinehas realized that a bull cut in pieces would cover the grate of the altar VOL. 9, ILLUS As he watched, a man brought a lamb to altar, he was not a rich man, or priest - Very poor men would bring a dove... wasn t a poor man - God gave exact instructions on how various people should worship Him - By bringing his offering, the man was admitting that God was holy and must punish sin - He was admitting that he himself was a sinner - But penalty for his sin would be paid for by a substitute - Phinehas watched as man put hand on head of lamb; closed eyes and prayed - Then the lamb a perfect one (no broken leg, no sore eye, no wounds) was killed - Only blood of a perfect animal would do as covering for sin - Here is another picture of the Lord Jesus Christ - He is the Lamb of God; the perfect One who died on the cross to pay penalty for sin VOL. 9, ILLUS Eleazar, Phinehas, only one way to worship God You must come through the gate with a sacrifice - Phinehas was glad to see the altar was not too high for a child to reach the top (Remove covering over cross.) - God accepted blood of animals as a covering for sin; each sin required another sacrifice - Only the blood of Jesus takes away sin and removes its penalty forever P, E Rev. 1:5... Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood. (M.V.) - For hundreds of years, animals were sacrificed for the sins of the people - When Jesus died on cross, He said, It is finished - He was saying the payment for sins was complete - Jesus would never have to die again, nor would animal have to die in place of sinner - Phinehas was eager to know about the other piece of furniture in the court VOL. 9, ILLUS Eleazar, You may look at it from here; only the priests may go beyond brazen altar - Eleazar, The other piece of furniture in court is laver It is place of washing We priests wash our hands and feet there when we are finished at the altar - Reminds me of being clean MT GOD WANTS YOU TO CONFESS YOUR SINS IMMEDIATELY - The priests washed hands and feet so they would be clean before God - Phinehas, So bright it hurts my eyes just to look at it - Son, your mother and other women brought shining bronze mirrors as offerings - Is there water in the laver?
