5 MEMORY VERSE HELPS MEMORY VERSE: 2 Corinthians 5:17 LIFE OF PAUL #3 Saul Meets His Master Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (The underlined portion of the verse indicates what the younger children should memorize. See Involvement Helps for Younger Children for helps in teaching the verse to the younger children.) INTRODUCE THE VERSE: When a person receives Christ as their Saviour, things become different. Attitudes, desires, and even interests seem to change. The Bible verse today explains why that happens. READ THE VERSE: Read the verse from the Bible or have an older child read it; then have all the children read with you from the verse visual. EXPLAIN THE VERSE: 2 Corinthians 5:17 This is where this verse is found in the Bible. We call it the address. It is found in the book of Second Corinthians, chapter 5, verse17. Therefore, if any man be in Christ, This verse is talking about a person (man, woman, boy, or girl) who is a Christian one who has received Jesus as their personal Saviour. he is a new creation; When you receive Jesus, the Holy Spirit places a new want to, or desire in you. This new desire is to please God by obeying His Word. old things are passed away; You won't enjoy doing many of the things you did before because they don't please God. behold, all things are become new. You are different now. God has changed you on the inside, where you make choices and where attitudes are formed. But He also changes your actions the things you do. REPEAT THE VERSE: Crazy Stand-Ups After reading this verse from the Bible, explaining what it means, and repeating it at least two times, you may begin this drill. Have all the children wearing red stand and repeat the verse; all the children who ride the bus to school stand and repeat the verse; those who have a pet; those who like chocolate ice cream; those who have one brother or sister; etc. CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP OF EASTERN PA, INC. Ruth MEMORY VERSE: Shortened verse LIFE OF PAUL #3 Saul Meets His Master 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation.... BIBLE LESSON HELPS: Card 2-2 Card 3-1 Card 3-2 Card 3-3 Card 3-4 Card 3-6 Explain, A dandelion is a weed something most people want to get rid of. The Jewish leaders were trying to get rid of the Christians, to pick them off. Pretend to pick a dandelion and then blow on it to get rid of the seeds. Did we really get rid of the seeds? No, we just scattered them. Have everyone pack clothes and food. Be sure to include letters from high priest. Walk or ride a donkey around room for journey to Damascus. Have children pretend to be Saul. Quickly fall to ground. Shield eyes. Hold head still as if listening carefully. Ask, Who are you, Lord? Choose someone to be Saul pretending he can t see. Choose two children to be Saul s men. They help him get up and, taking him by hand, lead him around room. Ask Saul, How does it feel to be blind? Have several children, one at a time as Ananias looking puzzled and alarmed, say, Lord, I have heard all the harm he has done. Have everyone turn to neighbor. Look surprised. Scratch head. Point. Ask, Isn t he the man who hates Christians? BIBLE LEARNING GAME: Pin the Tail on the Donkey This game will momentarily enable the children to experience being blind, thus having an idea of how Saul must have felt. 7 LEARNING ABOUT THE BIBLE & THE OLD TESTAMENT BOOKS WEEK #19 (Place figure #1.) Let us begin today by reviewing the first eight books of the Minor Prophets: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk. (Place figures #39 and #40.) Today, we are going to learn a little about the next two books of the Minor Prophets. They are Zephaniah and Haggai. (Place Zephaniah wordstrip.) Little is known of Zephaniah except that he was a great-great grandson of King Hezekiah of Judah and that he lived during the time of King Josiah. Zephaniah wrote that God is both loving and strict. (Place Haggai wordstrip.) The next book is written by the prophet Haggai. Haggai was the earliest prophet after the people came back from the countries to which they were taken as captives. The book has only 38 verses, and it is the second shortest book in the Old Testament. Let s say these two books together. Now we are up to ten books of the Minor Prophets. Let s see if we can recite them: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai. CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP OF EASTERN PA, INC. P.O. BOX 4375 HARRISBURG, PA
8 GO AND TELL BOX Week #20 Great Commission #2 INFORMATION (Suggested item to put in the Go and Tell Box Christian, Nominal, and Unbeliever figures.) What is in our Go and Tell Box today? (Pull out each figure with wordstrip as you talk about them.) Today, we are going to think about those people who have heard the Good News about Jesus and how they have responded to the message of salvation. These are people who have: Bibles in their language, many believers within their culture a re living for God, a church building available, and tools for sharing the Gospel are available through radio, TV, tracts, etc. In America, everyone is able to purchase a Bible, even at the Dollar Store. (Ninety-four percent of the world s population has access to a New Testament printed in their language.) 1. Christian Forty-one percent (127 million) of those who live in America are profe ssing (say they are) Christians. (Place figure and wordstrip on flannelboard.) They have believed in Jesus death, burial, and resurrection and have received Jesus as their personal Saviour. Many are involved in a local, Bible-teaching church. The Christians are the ones who are potential missionaries. 2. Nominal There are about forty-two percent (130 million) nominal Christians those who are Christian in name only. They know about Jesus and the Bible. But they do not follow or obey what God says. (Place figure and wordstrip on flannelboard.) They are found in churches in every town and city of America. 3. Unbeliever They do not go to church but are neighbors of the Christians and the nominal Christians. (Place figure and wordstrip on flannelboard.) They may have some knowledge of the Gospel but have not believed and received Jesus as Saviour. Remember that the Great Commission, as recorded in Mark 16:15, says,... Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature. (person) As Christians, we have a big job. God loves each person in the world and He wants everyone to hear about His Son, so that they can have the opportunity to receive Jesus as their Saviour. Adapted from: THE GREAT COMMISSION MISSIONS (Original content from William Carey Library) Religious Statistics from Barna Research 2007 PRAYER THANK God for His Word, the Bible, and for your salvation. ASK God to help you to live so that others will want to listen when you share about Jesus. CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP OF EASTERN PA, INC. P.O. BOX 4375 HARRISBURG, PA
