1 GOOD NEWS CLUB AGENDA WEEK: GOD S WORD AND ME #2 Jeremiah and Baruch Jeremiah 36 37:4 MAIN THRUST: You should honor God s Word. TO DO AS THE CHILDREN ARRIVE: 1. Greet the children; make them feel w elcome. 2. Take the attendance. 3. Listen to previous w eek s memory verse. 4. Have children put money in missions bank. PRE-SESSION ACTIVITY: 1. OLDER CHILD: How to Be Respectful 2. YOUNGER CHILD: God s Call SONG: (2 minutes) PRAYER: (4 minutes) 1. Prayer song: 2. Ask the children to share any Thank You Prayers or Please Prayers they have. 3. Lead the children in Thank You Prayers and Please Prayers. MEMORY VERSE: (7 minutes) Psalm 119:89 Forever, O Lord, Thy Word is settled in Heaven. (The underlin ed p o r tio n of the verse indicates w hat the younger children should memorize. Involvement Helps for Younger Children for helps in teaching the verse to the younger children.) See Up and Down After reading the verse from your Bible, explaining w hat it means, and repeating it at least two times, you may begin this drill. Start with all kids standing. Say the first word of the verse and then point to a child who will say the second word. If he says the correct word, he sits down. If the child cannot say the next word, he remains standing. Continue in the same manner through the rest of the verse. As time allow s, repeat it several times. Remind them to show you their QT Notebook next week. LEARNING ABOUT THE BIBLE & THE OLD TESTAMENT BOOKS: (5 minutes) Teach information for Week #12. MISSIONARY TIME: (13 minutes) 1. Sing God s Way while child comes to look in the Go and Tell Box. 2. Share missionary information for Week #13 using the Go and Tell Box. (See attached page.) 3. Pray for the missionaries. REVIEW ACTIVITY: (6 minutes) Use the activity below or the Bible Learning Game from the Involvement Helps for Younger Children. Moving Circles Cut six circles from the same color of construction paper. Put a sticker on bottom of three circles. Place the six circles in a row on the table or on the floor in front of the class. Divide your class into tw o teams. Ask a review question. The student who answ ers the question correctly may turn over two circles. Aw ard his team 100 points for each sticker found. The second letter is in HOT but not in HIT. The third letter is in NEST but not in BEST. The fourth letter is in SHOE but not in SHE. The fifth letter is in RING but not in SING. 5 MEMORY VERSE HELPS MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 119:89 GOD S WORD AND ME #2 Jeremiah and Baruch Forever, O Lord, Thy Word is settled in Heaven. (The underlined portion of the verse indicates what the younger children should memorize. See Involvement Helps for Younger Children for helps in teaching the verse to the younger children.) INTRODUCE THE VERSE: How long is forever? It means that something cannot be destroyed. Today s memory verse tells us about something that will last forever and ever. It also tells us about something that will not change. Let s memorize it now. READ THE VERSE: Read the verse from the Bible or have an older child read it; then have all the children read with you from the verse visual. EXPLAIN THE VERSE: Psalm 119:89 This is where the verse is found in the Bible. We call it the address or reference. It is found in the book of Psalm, chapter 119, verse 89. Forever, O Lord, Forever means it cannot be destroyed. Thy Word is settled in Heaven. God s Word is unchanging and will last forever. Men have tried to destroy God s Word by cutting it up, throwing it away, and even by burning it, but copies of it are still found. Even if every copy were burned, God, who wrote the Bible, can give the words to someone new to write them down again. REPEAT THE VERSE: Up and Down After reading the verse from your Bible, explaining what it means, and repeating it at least two times, you may begin this drill. Start with all kids standing. BIBLE LEARNING GAME: Message Relay Have children sit in a line one next to another on the floor. Have your helper or an older child sit on a chair a short distance away. Tell a message to the whole group and discuss with them the questions, Who in the lesson said it? and To whom did they say it? Message #1 I cannot speak: for I am a child. Message #2 Behold, I have put My words in thy mouth. Message #3 Take the scroll to the House of the Lord. Message #4 Tell us, now. How did you write all these words? The first child comes and delivers message to person in the chair. He goes back and taps second child, who comes and delivers same message. 7 LEARNING ABOUT THE BIBLE & THE OLD TESTAMENT BOOKS WEEK #12 (Place figure #1.) (Review the five books of Law, the 12 books of History, and the five books of Poetry. If time allows, review something about the name or content of each book.) Today, we are going to learn about a section of the Old Testament called the Major Prophets. (Place figure #37.) A prophet was a man who spoke and wrote for God. When a prophet spoke or wrote about things that would happen in the future, it was called prophecy. The five Major Prophets books are the longest books of prophecy in the Old Testament. (Place figure #38.) Today, we are going to learn three of them. (Place Isaiah wordstrip.) The prophet Isaiah wrote the book of Isaiah. This book mainly speaks about how horrible sin is and teaches about the coming of the Lord Jesus. (Place Jeremiah wordstrip.) Jeremiah, known as the weeping prophet, cried as he wrote about the sins of the people and their coming judgment because of their sins. (Place Lamentations wordstrip.) Jeremiah wrote five poems in Lamentations that explain how sad he is that the city of Jerusalem and the Temple, the place where Jews worshiped God, were destroyed when the enemy captured the city. 8 GO AND TELL BOX Week #13 Information About the Snavelys INFORMATION (Suggested item to put in the Go and Tell Box picture or miniature figure of dinosaurs.) What do you think a dinosaur has to do with going and telling? (Let the children share their ideas.) One of the questions that Mr. Mike is often asked as he teaches the Bible truth about creation is, What about dinosaurs? This question gives Mr. Mike the opportunity to share that what is taught by the evolutionists is only a theory and that it is not supported by science. Science does not correctly line up with the idea of the earth being billions of years old. The Bible teaches that on the sixth day of creation, God made all the creatures that lived on the land. The Bible states that nothing was made without God making it (Genesis1:24-25). Dinosaurs lived with man for about 1,655 years. (Calculated by adding the years found in Genesis 5, 10, and 11.) To help people understand and have correct information about the questions often asked about dinosaurs, Mr. Mike has written and, with the help of others, produced a DVD entitled The Mystery of the Dinosaurs. Mr. Mike is now also producing a video series entitled Ranger Mike for boys and girls like you to watch and learn about God s wonderful creation. One of them is called Behemoth, about a large creature mentioned in the book of Job, in the Bible (Job 40:15f). It is thought that it was a large animal, perhaps a type of dinosaur that is now extinct. PRAYER THANK God for Mr. Mike s and Mrs. Carrie s desire of helping people know about the Creator God and giving Him glory. ASK God to give them wisdom as they continue to prepare videos and speak to people about the Bible story of creation. II-14) - Jeremiah was from small town north of Jerusalem; 20 years old when God called him to work - Jeremiah said, I cannot speak: for I am a child ; God said, Say not I am a child Be not afraid... I am with thee... Behold, I have put My words in thy mouth (Jer. 1:6-9) - Josiah listened to Jeremiah speak about God and His plan for the people of Israel - Josiah knew about God, but he did not know about God s Son; we know who Jesus is... O - Josiah died not long after Jeremiah began his work as God s prophet (Remove fig. II-14; place figs. II-15, II-16a, b, c) - King Josiah s son, Jehoiakim, was the next king; Jehoiakim did not listen to God s prophet - Jehoiakim set up idols and turned from worshiping God; he was a sinful man, like we are S, PAU Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God Many people followed the wicked king in his sinful ways - God told Jeremiah to warn the king and the people what would happen because of their sin

13 - They became so angry with Jeremiah that he had to hide (Remove figs. II-16a, b, c) - As Jeremiah was hiding, God said, Take a scroll and write all the words I tell you - Would God send Jeremiah to those people again? Yes, because He loved them G - Jeremiah sent for his friend, Baruch; Baruch was a scribe or a writer (Place fig. II-17) - God spoke right to Jeremiah s heart; Jeremiah told Baruch to write all the words of God - After it was written, Jeremiah told Baruch to take it to the House of God - Jeremiah, Take this on a special day when many will be in the House of God and read it -... to all the people; it may be they will listen and turn from their evil ways for great is the anger of the Lord, and great is the punishment He has spoken against His people (Remove fig. II-15) - Baruch did just as Jeremiah told him to do (Remove fig. II-17) - A young man heard Baruch and thought, Others must hear these wonderful words (Place fig. II-18) - Found leaders together in scribes chambers; he told them about great words he heard - They sent a messenger to get Baruch and the scroll right away (Place fig. II-19, II-20, II-21) - They told him words of God; King, Who told you all this? and sent his servant to get scroll (Remove fig. II-21, put fig. II-22 in hands, place figs. II-21, II-22) - King s servant began to read; then the king did a terrible thing - Grabbed scroll and angrily cast it into fire; his actions showed he had no respect for God or His Word MT YOU SHOULD HONOR GOD S WORD - King Jehoiakim did not believe what God s Word said. That is why he cast it into the fire - King then ordered his servants to find Baruch and Jeremiah; Did king want to kill them? (Remove all figs.) - Where were Jeremiah & Baruch? - God hid them; He had more work for them (Place figs. II-15, II-17) - Once again, God told Jeremiah to take a scroll and write all the words given to him by God - Baruch and Jeremiah went right to work; the Word of God was very important to them MT, PAS YOU SHOULD HONOR GOD S WORD Psalm 119:127 Therefore, I love Thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold When God told Jeremiah to write all the words God spoke, he went right to work - This time, God even added more words - God told them what would happen to the king for his sin and for burning the scroll - God said, He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David, and I will punish him...
