Clap a Word After reading the verse from your Bible, explaining what it means, and repeating it at least two times, you may begin this drill. Choose one child to stand behind the visualized verse, turning his back to the visual and the class. Choose another child to point to a word on the visual. Lead the children in reciting the verse, but when you get to the chosen word, clap instead of saying it. The child with his back to the class then tries to guess the w ord. Repeat again, choosing different children to participate. COUNSEL TIME: (If you have a helper, hostess, or Teacher Junior Grade, let them do the review time while you counsel those who responded to the invitation. Otherwise, at the end of club, be sure to remind them to stay for a few minutes so you can counsel them.)

2 QUIET TIME NOTEBOOK TAKE TIME TO REVIEW: (1 minute) Highlight what was learned from last week s Quiet Time/TT Review. Ask the children to do one per day before the next club. Remind them to show you their QT Notebook next week. LEARNING ABOUT THE BIBLE & THE OLD TESTAMENT BOOKS: (5 minutes) Teach information for Week #11. MISSIONARY TIME: (13 minutes) 1. Sing God s Way child comes to look in the Go and Tell Box. 2. Share missionary information for Week #12 using the Go and Tell Box. (See attached page.) 3. Pray for the missionaries. (See attached page.) 4. Show goal chart and mention the amount given so far. 5. Missions song: 6. Story: Until the Letter Cam e. Teach the part of the story for Week #2. REVIEW ACTIVITY: (6 minutes) Use the activity below or the Bible Learning Game from the Involvement Helps for Younger Children. Pick -a-cap You will need ten w ater bottle caps, a ballpoint pen, ten w hite 3/4" cir c le labels, and stickers. Use pen to print a point value (100, 200, or 300) on each label and place one inside eight of the caps. Put a sticker in two caps. Place caps on a table or on the floor in front of your class. To play: Divide the children into two teams. Number children 1-10 within their teams. For large clubs: a team may have two ls, two 2s, two 3s, etc. For small clubs: A child may have two numbers. Ask a question of Team A. Then randomly call out a number; e.g. number 5! The first child on Team A with that number who raises his hand and answers the question correctly turns over a cap and receives the points for his team. (The sticker is w orth 500 points!) The next question is answ ered b y Team B. If the first child to answ er gives an incorrect response, call out another number for that team. Note: It is helpful to list the numbers 1-10 on a card and cross off each number as it is used. - Evangelizing Today s Child, July/August Review questions for GOD S WORD AND ME #1: 1. How old was Josiah when his father became k ing? (Six.) 2. What made Josiah s father a bad king? (He did evil before the Lord and worshiped idols.) 3. How old was Josiah when he became k ing? (Eight.) 4. What made Josiah a good king? (He did what was right before the Lord.) 5. What was wrong with the Temple (God s House)? (It was broken down and needed to be repaired.) 6. What did one of the work men find while cleaning the Temple? (The Book of the Law.) 7. W hat did Shaphan read about idols from the law? (They were not to bow down to them or serve them because God is holy.) 8. What did they decide to do about the idols? (Destroy them.) 9. What special day did Josiah decide that they must remember? 5 MEMORY VERSE HELPS MEMORY VERSE: 2 Timothy 3:16 GOD S WORD AND ME #1 Josiah, the Young King All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (The underlined portion of the verse indicates what the younger children should memorize. See Involvement Helps for Younger Children for helps in teaching the verse to the younger children.) INTRODUCE THE VERSE: Do you know how we got the Bible? Do you know why the Bible is so important and valuable for us to read and memorize? Our verse today gives us the answers to those questions. Let s learn it together. READ THE VERSE: Read the verse from the Bible or have an older child read it; then have all the children read with you from the verse visual. EXPLAIN THE VERSE: 2 Timothy 3:16 This is where the verse is found in the Bible. We call it the address or reference. It is found in the book of Second Timothy, chapter 3, verse 16. All Scripture All of the Bible, including both the Old and the New Testaments, is God s Word. Note that it says all, not just parts of it. Scripture is another word for Bible. is given by inspiration of God, The word inspiration means God breathed. God breathed into men, or told men, the words to write down in the Bible. and is profitable Profitable means good or useful. for doctrine, Doctrine means teaching ; the teaching in the Bible tells us what is right. for reproof, Reproof tells us what is not right, or what is sin. for correction, Correction tells us how to get right again, or how to be forgiven. for instruction in righteousness. The Bible also trains us in how to stay right, or in how God wants us to live pleasing to Him. REPEAT THE VERSE: Clap a Word After reading the verse from your Bible, explaining what it means, and repeating it at least two times, you may begin this drill. After I found the book.... Have children repeat the phrase, I found the Book of the Law! After The king gathered.... Have children stand, pretend to open a book, and say, Listen to God s Word. After King Josiah made his people.... Ask children to raise right hand and say, I promise. BIBLE LEARNING GAME: Read His Word Form a circle with the class. Choose someone to stand in the center, holding his hands as an open Bible. Others walk around circle, singing to Mulberry Bush tune: God wants you to read His Word, Read His Word, Read His Word. God wants you to read His Word, Read His Word each day. Say to the child in the center, Tell us something you have learned from God s Word. 7 LEARNING ABOUT THE BIBLE & THE OLD TESTAMENT BOOKS WEEK #11 (Place figure #1.) So far, we have learned the five books of Law, the 12 books of History, and the five books of Poetry. This means we have covered 22 books of the Old Testament. How many books are there in the Old Testament? Remember that if you take the three letters of the word Old and the nine letters of the word Testament and put them together, you come up with 39, and that is the number of books in the Old Testament. Let s say the five books of the Law: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. Now let s say the 12 books of History: Joshua, Judges, Ruth, First and Second Samuel. First and Second Kings, First and Second Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther. Let s start at the very beginning and say the books of Law and the books of History. (Genesis... Esther.) Now, let s practice saying the books of Poetry: Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon. We re going to put them altogether now and say the books of Law, History, and Poetry. 8 GO AND TELL BOX Week #12 Information About the Snavelys INFORMATION (Suggested item to put in the Go and Tell Box a heart.) What do you think a heart has to do with going and telling? (Let the children share their ideas.) This heart reminds us that people need to know that God loves them even though they are sinners wanting their own way. Most people think that everyone is basically good, but we know that mankind is sinful and needs a Saviour. During Mr. Mike s travels, he meets many people and tries to help them understand that God loves them and what Jesus did for them when He died on the cross. Mr. Mike travels to many places to teach special classes on creation. The Bible tells that God created everything in the beginning. The theory of evolution explains that we came into being all on our own, all by chance, and that the world has evolved over many billions of years. In their ministry, Mr. Mike shares how God s Word tells us the true story of creation. He has opportunities to teach classes in schools, mostly Christian, and with home-school groups. Sometimes, he is invited to speak at colleges, like Lebanon Valley College. People have enjoyed his teaching and learned many important things about creation. They asked him to write a homeschool curriculum. It is called Creation or Evolution and is mostly being used by Christian schools and Sunday School programs for all ages. PRAYER THANK God that Mr. Mike is helping people understand that God designed His wonderful creation and that evolution is not possible. 12 - They were much afraid and they confessed their sins to God - King Josiah made his people promise to love and serve God; they wanted to do this - After this, they wanted to destroy their idols; no one can serve God & idols at same time - Josiah decided to remember a special day called, the Passover - It was in God s Word, they just forgot it for a long time (Remove all figs.; Add figs. aa, bb - brazen altar, lamb) - The people brought animal sacrifices just like God told His people to do in His Word - The blood of animals covered their sins until day when Promised One would come P, E 1 John 1:7... The blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanseth us from all sin. (Place cc, dd - arrow, cross) - Josiah was different from other kings; he chose to obey God - Have you made that choice? - Most important decision, ask Jesus to be your Saviour INVITATION John 1:12 But as many as received Him,(Jesus) to them gave He power to become the sons (children) of God, even to them that believe on His name. GOD S WORD AND ME #1 2 Kings 21:23 23:27; 2 Chronicles 33:21 35:19 - Have you ever heard someone say, Like father, like son? - It could mean that the son walks/talks like his father - Was boy in our lesson today just like his father? Listen and see (Place fig. I-1) - Here is 6-year-old Josiah; his father was king of Judah; exciting life for him in palace - His father would be busy with important things if he was leading well (Place fig. I-2) - But Josiah s dad was not a good king; he did evil in the sight of the Lord - He worshiped false gods and didn t listen to God s Word; people became wicked too - What would happen to little Josiah? Would he choose to do wicked things? - When people choose to turn from God, we call that sin S, PAU Ezekiel 18:4... The soul that sinneth, it shall die (Remove fig. I-1) - Whatever would become of wicked king, Josiah s father? - One day, he was alone in palace and his own servants crept into his room and killed him (Remove fig. I-2) - He had only been king 2 years; what good things he could have done if he had loved/served God (Place fig. I-3) - After Josiah s father was killed, Josiah, just 8 years old, was crowned the new king! - All the people wanted him as king even though he was young - (Look for boy about 8 and ask, What would you do if suddenly chosen king/president? You would have to do what adults wanted you to, right?) (Remove fig. I-3)

13 - At this time, land full of idols (Place fig. I-4) - The people worshiped idols and did other wicked things - As Josiah got older, he started making his own decisions - Bible says, He did what was right in the sight of God - Josiah knew about God but not about God s Son O - Josiah chose to do right even though his father did wrong (Remove fig. I-4) - Josiah decided something had to be done about this sinful land (Place fig. I-5) - Josiah prayed; thought of a plan (Remove fig. I-5) - He talked to some of his servants; then took them to help him destroy the idols in the land (Place figs. I-4, I-6) - He soon learned destroying idols does not change the hearts of the people - They kept right on worshiping idols and doing evil things (Remove all figs.) - Then Josiah remembered the Temple; it was once the most beautiful building in all land - Now it was neglected; parts of it were even broken down (Place fig. I-7) - People put idols in Temple; worshiped idols where only God should be worshiped - Did God hate these people because they worshiped idols? - It is true God hated their sin, but he did not hate the people G (Fit fig. I-8 next to I-7) - Josiah decided to cast out the idols, repair the Temple, and make it beautiful again - Josiah used money saved by those who loved the Lord to make the repairs - The work was begun; it must have made the king happy to see God s House repaired - While repairing the Temple, Hilkiah, a man who loved God, found copy of God s Law hidden in the wall (Place figs. I-9, I-10) - He told his friend Shaphan, I found the Book of the Law! The wonderful Word of God was lost for so long - Their hearts were full of joy; just what the king needed - Dreadful things had happened while God s Word was lost because no one was reading it (Remove all figs.) - Shaphan took the Book (scroll) and hurried to the king s palace (Place figs. I-9, I-10, I-11) - How excited Josiah must have been; he had never seen God s Word before, now here it was - He listened carefully as Shaphan began to read (open scroll 8 ½ x 11 paper works and read) - This is what he read, Ye shall be holy; for I, the LORD your God, am holy (Leviticus 19:2) - Thou shalt have no other gods before Me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any carved image (idol)... (Ex. 20:3-5) - As Shaphan read, God spoke to Josiah s heart through His Word MT YOU SHOULD READ GOD S WORD - Now, Josiah was sure that God would punish the people for their sins; he believed God s Word - He also knew people didn t listen when he told them to worship only the true God - Only Scripture, God s Word, could change their hearts (Add figs.
