1 GOOD NEWS CLUB AGENDA BEGINNINGS #3 The First Children Genesis 4:1 16a; Hebrews 11:4 WEEK OF: MAIN THRUST: You should learn that your way may not be God s way. TO DO AS THE CHILDREN ARRIVE: 1. Greet the children; make them feel welcome. 2. Take attendance. 3. Listen to previous week s memory verse. 4. Have children put money in missions bank. 5. Have children put candy corn in their team s container according to the number of points earned. PRE-SESSION ACTIVITY: 1, OLDER CHILD: Try This! 2. YOUNGER CHILD: Cain and Abel SONG: (2 minutes) PRAYER: (4 minutes) 1. Prayer song: 2. Review the WHEN WE PRAY IN CLUB Chart. Explain the PATTERN FOR PRAYER Chart. (See attached visual.) 3. Lead the class in prayer. Be sure to include your Thank You Prayers and Please Prayers. Let the children say, Dear Heavenly Father and In Jesus name, Amen with you. MEMORY VERSE: (7 minutes) Hebrews 9:22... And without shedding of blood is no remission. (The underlined portion of the verse indicates what the younger children should memorize. See Involvement Helps for Younger Children for helps in teaching the verse to the younger children.) Ping Pong After reading this verse from the Bible, explaining what it means, and repeating it at least two times, you may begin this activity. Divide into two teams or line up in two rows facing each other. Pretend you are playing ping pong. One team begins with the reference, the second team says the first word, etc.; continue in the same manner until the verse is completed. Repeat several times. HYMN FOR BEGINNINGS: (2 minutes) BIBLE LESSON: (20 minutes) BEGINNINGS #3 The First Children (See Involvement Helps for Younger Children for ways to involve the children in the Bible lesson.) COUNSEL TIME: (If you have a helper, hostess, or Teacher Junior Grade, let them do the review time while you counsel those who responded to the invitation. Otherwise, at the end of club, be sure to remind the children who responded to the invitation to stay after club for a few minutes.)

2 QUIET TIME NOTEBOOK: (1 minute) Highlight what was learned from last week s Quiet Time. Ask the children to do one each day before the next club. Remind them that they must show you their QT Paper week to earn points for the contest. MISSIONARY TIME: (16 minutes) 1. Sing God s Way while child comes to look in Go and Tell Box. 2. Share information for Week #2 using the Go and Tell Box. (See attached page.) 3. Pray for the missionaries. (See attached page.) 4. Show and explain Missionary Goal Chart. Set missionary offering goal for the year. 5. Missions song: 6. Story: No Darkness at All. Teach the part of the story for Week #2. REVIEW ACTIVITY: (8 minutes) Use the activity below or the Bible Learning Game from Involvement Helps for Younger Children. Find the Bus Make duplicate copies, color, back for the flannelboard, and cut out the busses. (See attached pattern.) Print the bus numbers on the back sides (#5, #10, #15, #20, #25, #30, #35, #40, #45, and #50) and place them on the board in random order. Explain that Jason is trying to find his school bus so he can go home from school. Jason needs to find Bus #15. When a child answers a review question correctly, he may look on the back of any school bus to see if he has the right one. Ask, What will happen if Jason wants his own way and chooses to get on a different bus? Explain, Another bus will not take him home, and he will get in trouble for being disobedient. If the correct bus is found right away, mix up the busses and then help Nicole find Bus #40. - by Rita L. Lobdell, GIVE & TAKE, October Review questions for BEGINNINGS #3: 1. What were the names of the sons of Adam and Eve? (Cain and Abel.) 2. What were some ways the Garden of Eden had been different from the life Cain and Abel knew? (There was no hard work in the Garden, and there was no death there.) 3. What were some things Adam and Eve would have taught their sons? (How to worship God, how to grow fruit and vegetables, and how to care for the animals.) 4. How were they to worship God? (Sacrifice an animal on the altar.) 5. What offering did Cain bring to God? (He brought fruit and vegetables.) 6. What offering did Abel bring? (He brought a lamb.) 7. How did God feel about their offerings? (He was pleased with Abel s offering, but He was not pleased with Cain s.) 8. How did God show His love for Cain? (He gave him an opportunity to bring the right kind of offering.) 9. What did Cain do when he knew God refused to accept his offering? (He became jealous of Abel, hated him, and killed him.) 10. What was Cain s punishment? (He would never be able to grow good fruit and vegetables and would wander around like a runaway.) 11. Quote today s memory verse. (Hebrews 9:22... BIBLE LESSON HELPS: Scene 2 Scene 3 Scene 6 into 7 Scene 7 To show Adam s and Eve s happiness upon birth of Cain, clap hands. Wave arms in air. Gently pick up baby. Smile at him. Rock him. Have everyone pretend to be a farmer. Dig the ground; plant seeds; water the plants; pull weeds. Have everyone pretend to be a shepherd. Pet sheep; remove thorns; put medicine on bruises; throw stones to scare away enemy animals. Let several children name a fruit or vegetable Cain might have brought. Have children, as Cain, look back over their shoulders to see if anyone has seen what he has done. Ask, Cain, where is your brother, Abel? Children respond, as they put palms up and shrug shoulders, I don t know where he is. Have children, as Cain, step in place, head down, shaking it sadly from side to side. BIBLE LEARNING GAME: Abel Says (adapted from Simon Says ) Remind children that God wants us to follow His way. Abel followed God s way, but Cain did not. Have everyone stand. Begin as the leader and give children a direction, such as Abel says, Touch your nose. Children then follow that direction. When the leader says, Cain says..., children are NOT to follow the direction. Those that do must sit down. Continue until children lose interest or until only one child is left standing. 8 GO AND TELL BOX Week #2 Earning Missionary Money It is important that children understand when they are young how God wants us to share so that other children can hear about Jesus also. When you teach missions and talk about bringing an offering for the missionaries, it is important to help the children understand that they should be willing to give some of their own money. Share with them that we do not want them just home and ask their parents/guardians, etc. for money. We are giving to help support the missionaries we sponsor in the club ministry. The list below will provide you with some ideas that you can share with your clubbers to help them know how they can earn their own money to give in the missionary offering. (Choose those appropriate for your clubbers.) 1. Weed gardens or flower beds. 2. Help wash cars. 3. Pick up trash in the neighbor s yard and help them put it out. 4. Rake leaves and pick up twigs that fall in the yard. 5. Wash windows. 6. Babysit. (Children too young to babysit can entertain younger boy or girls while their mothers are busy working.) 7. Address Christmas cards. 8. Wrap Christmas presents. 9. Clean a garage. 10. Collet and recycle aluminum cans. 11. Shovel snow off walks or decks. 12. Fold laundry. 13. Take the neighbor s mail and newspaper in while they are away. 14. Water plants and lawns when neighbor is away 15. Make and sell cookies. 16. Help a younger child, with their homework. 17. I will put a mark upon you - Cain went out from the presence of the Lord - Abel is in Heaven now; Bible says by faith he offered better sacrifice - Abel believed God and did things the way God wanted him to do them. B20-B22 with fire) - God gave Adam and Eve a rule to obey; they disobeyed and were punished for it - Life wasn t as easy as before; couldn t live in Garden of Eden - Even though Adam and Eve couldn t live a perfect life now, God still loved them G - They learned that forgiveness was possible BEGINNINGS #3, SCENE 2 (Remove figs. B20, B21) - Perhaps the greatest joy came with the birth of a baby boy - We will name him Cain ; later a second son was born; his name was Abel - As the boys grew they must have asked parents about the Garden of Eden - God came each day - They learned that there was no death there; lots of good food; all were happy - Everything was changed because of sin; God drove them from the Garden - When God sent them out, He put an angel on guard, blocking the way back in - Cain and Abel were taught many things about farming and caring for the animals - One thing they were not taught was how to sin; they knew that from birth

Be ye not unwise but understanding what the will of the Lord is Surely Adam explained the way God made to be forgiven for sins - They must have often seen their father kill an animal for a sacrifice - They must have known God required a blood sacrifice (Remove fig. B22 with fire) BEGINNINGS #3, SCENE 3 - As he grew older, Cain enjoyed learning about growing things (Place fig. B23) - Abel liked animals better; especially sheep/lambs (Place fig. B24) - As young men, they learned to do things on their own, like bring sacrifices - Abel believed God s promise of forgiveness through blood - God promised a Saviour O - They may not have understood this was a reminder of Jesus (Place figs. B25, B26) - Cain knew what offering God wanted; Cain wanted to do something different (Place fig. B27) - Perhaps he thought fruit and vegetables would make a better sacrifice (Remove fig. B23; place fig. B28) - But this was not God s way; Cain could not please God by making up his own rules! B29) - God accepted Abel s offering but rejected Cain s - Perhaps God sent fire upon Abel s altar (Add fire to fig. B22) BEGINNINGS #3, SCENE 5 - Cain was angry; his face showed his feelings; God, Why are you angry, Cain? - God told Cain he could still bring the right offering and be forgiven - Cain turned away; he would not come God s way (Remove all figs.) (Place figs. B23, B24) - One day when they were in a field far away, Cain killed Abel (Replace fig. B24 with fig. B30) BEGINNINGS #3, SCENE 6 - No one was there to see him kill his brother - But, God saw it! (Remove fig. B30; place fig. B31) BEGINNINGS #3, SCENE 7 - God, Cain where is your brother, Abel? - Cain, I don t know... must I take care of him? - God knew what happened and wanted Cain to admit it
