2 Welcome On behalf of the people of the Cathedral of St. John, and the Bishop and people of the Diocese of the Rio Grande, we welcome you to this, our 22nd season of concerts and special choral worship services at the Cathedral of St. John. The Friends of Cathedral Music series has long been a vital part of the Cathedral s outreach to the greater community. It is an offering to the people of our city and beyond. The Cathedral serves Albuquerque by opening its doors and inviting others to share in these musical gifts. People from all walks of life come from far and wide to experience the splendor of our musical events. Your presence among us enriches our lives. We anticipate great moments for concert-goers with the 22nd musical season at the Cathedral of St. John. We ve combined a memorable repertoire of classical music with exceptionally talented artists from across the globe. The season includes concerts, special liturgical events and, throughout the season of Lent, musical meditations each Friday evening alongside a unique opportunity to support our Cathedral s Food Pantry. We invite you to join us: to take part, to share, to be touched by the Spirit that moves through music, to be nourished by that same Spirit, and be deepened in your relationship with each other and God through great music and talented musicians. 9 Aaron David Miller Ascension Sunday May 8th, 2016 at 3:00pm The Friends of Cathedral Music 2016 Commission Premiere, sponsored by Dr. David S. Moore and Mrs. Viera Ivanov Moore, with Composer in Residence Aaron David Miller. Concert organist and composer Aaron David Miller is currently Music Director at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Miller has been commissioned to compose works for numerous organ dedications and orchestra festivals, in addition to his substantial output of choral compositions. The world premiere of Dr. Miller s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis will take place at the 3:00pm service of Choral Evensong. Admission FREE

10 Sunday May 22ⁿ, 2016 at 3:00pm Great Hymns & Anthems In preparation for their tour to Washington National Cathedral in June 2016, our Cathedral Choirs offer their annual Great Hymns & Anthems concert with the Cathedral s resident brass ensemble, Breaking Brass. Our Cathedral Choirs are recognized as amongst the finest ensembles of their type in the Southwest. Their internationally distributed recordings have received glowing reviews here and across the pond, and their national and international tours have taken them to world-famous cathedrals in the UK and the US. In their pre-tour concert, the Cathedral Choirs present a program of favorite repertoire for choirs and organ, with Director of Cathedral Music Maxine Thévenot and Assistant Organist-Choir Director Edmund Connolly. 11 Sunday May 29, 2016 at 3:00pm "Elizabeth and Raymond Chenault: The World's Premiere Duo-Organ Team" The Atlanta Journal and Constitution Elizabeth and Raymond Chenault, duo-organists, have performed extensively throughout the United States and in Europe. Specializing in works written for two performers, the Chenaults have commissioned and premiered over forty organ duets. Because of their unique and refreshing repertoire, combined with their exciting and sensitive artistry, the Chenaults are in demand as recitalists and have established themselves as America's leading duo-organists.
