1 HANDS ACROSS THE COUNTIES II Later in this newsletter you will see a listing of our varied program offerings for the year. I want to highlight our October meeting/event that will take place in Lebanon, PA on Sunday, October 14 at 4:00 p.m. The deans of the Reading Chapter (John Brewster), Harrisburg Chapter (Brett Terry) and Lancaster (yours truly) and the organist at Salem Lutheran (Mark Dimick) met in June to lay out a proposed program for this year, continuing the excellent programs of last year when Lancaster organists performed in the Harrisburg area at Messiah College, and Harrisburg organists performed at First United Methodist church. We felt it was a good idea to support each other and experience the musicians from our other chapters by bringing into the fold for this year s offering, the Reading chapter. Each chapter is invited to provide organists for a 15 minute block in the Old Salem church which has a significant Lebanon-made Miller tracker organ of 3 manuals and pedals. After a short break, we will reconvene in Memorial Chapel (Salem congregation s current worship space), which has a three manual/pedal E. M. Skinner from 1928 in all of its original pipework and specification. In that space, each chapter will have a 15 minute block of time. I am asking for fellow Lancaster members to consider performing an approximately five-minute composition, thus allowing for six performers from our chapter. I will be asking specific individuals to play, but I am also asking that if you would like to participate please let me know by August 20 with a title/composer/nature of the piece/and length. What follows is the specification for the Miller Organ as well as the 1
2 E. M. Skinner organ to help those of you who would like to play know on which instrument they might like to play. Practicing schedules will be worked out with the Salem church office in coordination with the parish organist, Mark Dimick. This should be a wonderful concert on two wonderful instruments that have in both cases, been unaltered tonally. Rarely do we get to hear instruments that haven t been improved through the years. We had two excellent concerts last year and, in looking past this coming October, hopefully, we will have another Hands Across the Counties III for the coming year! Specifications for the organs are available online at Miller organ: E. M. Skinner organ: Soli Deo Gloria! MARK V.
