Michael Grant is the Associate Director of Music and Organist at Christ Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. Prior to his coming to Christ Church, he served on the faculty of Newberry College and Limestone College. A native of South Carolina, J. Michael Grant completed the Bachelor of Arts degree in organ performance at Newberry College, the Master of Music degree in organ performance at Converse College, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance at the Catholic University of America. His teachers include Robert Grogan, Larry Smith, and Marie-Claire Alain. Shirley Fishburne Organ Recital 4:00 pm Sunday, July 1 Including an anthem with the Purity Choir Free admission to all events. Dr. Shirley Fishburne, well known regional organist will present an organ recital including an anthem selection with the Purity Chancel Choir. This year, Dr. Fishburne is presenting recitals around the country in support of the renovation of Winthrop University s D. B. Johnson Memorial Organ. 3

4 It is with sadness that we inform you of the death of Edith Hooten, who so faithfully served the AGO. For the past six years, she served as District Convener for the state of Florida. She was a Past Dean of the Tampa Chapter and had also served on the Regional Nominating Committee. 8 NEWBERRY Summer Memorial Lutheran Church is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Director of Music Ministries / Organist. This part-time position (16-20 hours per week) consists of one Sunday worship service plus any additional seasonal services (i.e. Advent, Lent, etc.) Weekly rehearsals with the adult choir, the children s choir, and the handbell choir. This individual will also work closely with the Pastor and the Worship and Music Committee in selecting a wide variety of music to enhance the worship service.
