You may also them to kgriff5796@gmail.com. The Golden Pointers meet each Tuesday in the meeting hall of the American Legion. We have a great lunch for only $2.00. After lunch we play 20 games of regular bingo plus two quickies, a u-pick-em and an all-nighter. We also have a 50/50 and a Red Apple. On the second Tuesday we have our birthday celebration and great entertainment by Vern Eberhart Sr. and Jr. Chuck Sicina and Alex Volek. Tom Mankins finally came back and did some pickin and singing for us. Our beautifully decorated cakes are provided by the United Bank and our local Shop and Save. Come join us and have some fun. The library's fall session finished with a story hour on November 14th "Happy Thanksgiving". We had a good attendance for all the programs especially Halloween & Thanksgiving. Thanks to Miss Jo for such a good time. Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 12th at 11 o'clock, when we will have our Christmas story hour. Come & join the fun-everyone welcome! The library will be closed for Christmas break from December 24th through January 3rd. 2 ROTARY C O R N E R Code Enforcement Department: (CODE OF THE MONTH) Defacement of property. No person shall willfully or wantonly damage, mutilate or deface any exterior surface of any structure or building on any private or public property by placing thereon any marking, carving or graffiti. It shall be the responsibility of the owner to restore said surface to an approved state of maintenance and repair. November was a month of giving thanks for the members of the Point Marion Rotary Club. We had several interesting programs and speakers including a tri-club meeting with our Rotary colleagues in Masontown and Smithfield, a visit from Senator Pat Stefano and a guest from the local Air Force recruiting office. We also packed bags for the backpack feeding program. If you are interested in joining Rotary or would like to learn more about Rotary, please contact David Callahan at Cut to the Point Salon, located at 111 Penn Street (in the back) welcomes walk-ins! For services such as hair color, perms, or shellac nails, appointments are recommended. We also now have two Sunvision Elite tanning beds for only $20 unlimited monthly. 3 POINT MARION PARK Your Point Marion Park Commission continues through these colder months to plan events to best utilize our beautiful park. Next year we are planning movies, festivals and other events for all ages. An online calendar is being developed so you can keep up with events and even schedule use of the park s pavilions for your personal events. Watch the Facebook page for further information. Backpack Feeding Program We continue to accept donations of any amount for the backpack feeding program at Friendship Hill Elementary. Please direct donations to the Point Marion Rotary Club. Town Trivia For the month of December in The first Red Cross Chapter was organized here by E. J. Moore Barney's Theatre will have a silver night each Friday by giving each patron a free dinner knife upon admission. Tuesday is china night at the Theatre with each patron receiving a gift of china. *Sadler's Variety and Furniture Store has Santa in "full sway" in their basement toy store. *The First National Bank ad reads "The Bank With the Chimes Clock. We'll be your 1929 Santa Claus if you'll give us a chance." The Bank gives 4 3/4% interest on their Christmas Club plan Redemption of midnight Mass at St. Hubert Church. This Mass had been revoked since 1901 except for one occasion at the close of the First World War W.P.A. projects in town are: a $36,000 athletic field is approved. Also,$38,000 for the borough to be used for sewers, culvert, roadway, etc. A road connecting on to the south end of Main St. will be built through the field which will be on the 16 acre plot of the Jeannette Window Glass Co. *PM Hardware has the new 1939 sensational RCA Victor electric tuning radio (console grand), tuning for 6 stations, Victrola plug-in, magic eye, automatic volume control--all this for $85. *E.J. Moore celebrates his birthday, born in He installed the first independent telephone exchange in Pt. Marion--the Farmer's Telephone Co. It had a network that covered a 20 mile radius Point Marion has been selected as the most suitable locality in Fayette Co. for the erection of a vocational agriculture building which is a project sponsored by the Dept. of Public Instruction and financed by the Federal Government. This project will be for unemployed youths between the ages of to be employed on the construction. 140 have applied for jobs on this project. *We have 388 aliens registered at the local post office that are residents of this community Borough Council purchases an Air Raid Warning Siren for $292 that will be placed on top of Barney's Theatre The L. J. Houze Convex Glass Company gives work to over 800 employees. Other connected industries to glass are the Almar Metal Arts Company, The Point Marion Glass Novelty Plant at Guyaux, and the McClain Sand Company The only television outlet in this section of the county is WDTV operating on Channel 3. Some programs are: Howdy Doody, Kukla, Fran and Ollie, Pitt Parade, Stop the Music, and Master Kane, Private Eye Television antennas are going up all over the country, and residents are warned of the dangers and the accidental deaths by the installation The American Legion Post 499 collects over 400 toys to be distributed to needy children The Point Marion News is making plans for its debut on television next month at the State Capitol on WHPTV miners were killed in a violent explosion at the U.S.Steel Robena 3 mine on December Real estate taxes go up 4 mils from 14 to 18 mils The Borough's budget is $77, A severe snowstorm hit the area and was termed "the greatest natural disaster in the utility's history" by a West Penn Power official. Most of the area had no power for 3 days and 4 nights Council purchases the privately owned Springhill Water Company. *A 12-car train derailment occurred at Nilan A light up ceremony was held at the newly planted tree beside the Hardware. The tree has 9,000 lights. Santa Claus visited and gave each child a candy cane donated by the I.O.O.F. and the Junior High School choir entertained with Christmas carols Local Fraternal Order of the Eagles help in the celebrating of their formation 100 years ago in Seattle, WA. The local FOE is in the original building on Main St. where it first began in The history book of Point Marion has been published. Point Marion--From the Beginning is now available for purchase.
