2 GOOD MORNING FAMILY..thoughts from DAVID The preacher reached into a paper sack and pulled out an onion. He held it up for all to see and said, This is a rose. In an age w hen being cool is hot and being bad is good and being really great is wicked, this is a rose. When you have to be a low life to live the high life, and children choose to take their own lives, this is a rose. When a so-called Christian nation refuses to pray, when heaven can only be had on earth and when hell is only a joke, this is a rose. To a generation that thinks that sex is love and being drunk is a good time, this is a rose. When the right to kill an unwanted baby is called the right to choose, and when what God calls an abomination man calls alternative lifestyles, this is a rose. In a place where black is white and white is black, and sin means more prosperity, this is a rose. When fathers no longer try to be Dads, and mothers refuse to be Moms, and families are defined as whoever lives in a house, this is a rose. When shepherds scatter the sheep, when the blind see the light but choose darkness, when the stained can be washed but the individual returns to the mire, when the thirsty refuse to drink from the fountain of life, this is a rose. Isaiah 50:20 & 24 say, Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. As tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel. Even in the midst of the resurgence of belief in God, there are many who have got it all backwards (or at least jumbled). Our hope and deliverance is not just about sincerity, good intentions, and humanitarianism. I can be sincerely wrong. My good intentions can be misdirected. My humanitarianism efforts can cause me to think I can earn enough points for God to accept me. The truth is that our hope and deliverance can only be found through obedience to God s Word. It is here I find the salvation of my soul, the meaning of my existence, the goal of my faith, the reason for my service, the commission of my life, and the hope of my future in Jesus. Jesus is the answer for the world today. Above Him there s no other, Jesus is the way. Any other way is just calling onions roses. Keep Looking Up! David Jordan THE CHURCH WINDOW PAGE 2

5 Lingering with Lawania A confirmation student was asked to list the Ten Commandments in any order. He wrote, 3, 6, 1, 8, 4, 5, 9, 2, 10, 7. A woman went to the Post Office to buy stamps for her Christmas cards. What denomination? asked the clerk. Oh, good heavens! Have we come to this? Said the woman. Well, give me 50 Baptist and 50 Methodist ones. From a church bulletin A new loudspeaker system has been installed in the church. It was given by one of our members in honor of his wife. After the fall in the Garden of Eden, Adam was walking with sons Cain and Abel. They passed by the ruins of the Garden of Eden. One of the boys asked, What s that? Adam replied, Boys, that s where your mother ate us out of house and home. A minister was opening his mail one morning. Drawing a single sheet of paper from an envelope, he found written on it only one word: FOOL. The next Sunday he announced, I have known many people who have written letters and forgot to sign their names. But this week I received a letter from someone who signed his name and had forgotten to write a letter. Lesson on the Mount Then Jesus took his disciples up the mountain and gathering them around him, he taught them saying, *Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. *Blessed are the meek.. *Blessed are they who mourn.. *Blessed are the merciful.. *Blessed are they who thirst for justice.. *Blessed are you when persecuted.. *Blessed are you when you suffer, be glad and rejoice, for your reward is great in heaven. Then Simon Peter said, Do we have to write this down? And Andrew said Are we supposed to know this? And James said, Will we have a test on this? And Phillip said, What if we don t know it? And Bartholomew said, Do we have to turn this is in? And John said, The other disciples didn t have to learn this. And Matthew said, When do we get out of here? And Judas said, What does it have to do with real life? Then one of the Pharisees present asked to see Jesus lesson plans and inquired of Jesus his terminal objectives in the cognitive domain. And Jesus wept A friend was in front of me coming out of church one day, and the preacher was standing at the door as he always is to shake hands. He grabbed my friend by the hand and pulled him aside. Pastor said, You need to join the Army of the Lord. My friend said, I m already in the Army of the Lord, Pastor. Pastor questioned, How come I don t see you except at Christmas and Easter? He whispered back, I m in the secret service. An inexperienced young minister was anxious to do a good job on his first sermon. He had planned well and had lots of notes to use. He preached for an hour on the four Major Prophets. Some congregation members were getting tired, so when the young minister took a breath and started in again with And what place shall we assign the Minor Prophets?, an elderly man about halfway back in the church stood up and said, One of em can have my seat.
