2 Sharing God s Love Through Home Cooked Meals Nothing says you are loved more than a home cooked meal hand delivered to your home. Thanks to Thrivent Action Team seed money and caring individuals, members of OSL have the opportunity to help make and deliver meals to members of our community who could use a little extra tender loving care. When: Sunday, September 18 at 5:00 pm. Where: OSL Kitchen. Who: Anyone of any age interested in helping to put together some meals. Notes: Recipes, ingredients for meals and supplies will be furnished. *If you would like to provide some baked goods or bread to go along with the meals but can t make it Sunday evening, bring your goodies to church prior to Sunday evening. *Supper will be provided for all who come to cook. I was in prison and your visited me. Matthew 25:36 An Opportunity to worship with the congregation of St. Dysmas at Hope Chapel When: Thursday & Friday, October 27th & 28th. Where: South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls, SD. Why: Your visit to St. Dysmas is important to the men. They greatly appreciate your attendance! It is a way for them to maintain contact with the outside world, worship with fellow Christians and realize they have not been forgotten. And, it is a way for Christians to fulfill the directives of our Lord in Matthew 25 and Hebrews 13 to visit those in prison. Deadline to Register: October 3. The Mission Committee is planning an opportunity to serve and learn together through an overnight trip to Sioux Falls to worship with an ELCA congregation inside the prison walls during the same month that St. Dysmas will be our Mission of the Month. Hope Chapel, where we will worship, is the only place men are called by their Christian names; everywhere else they are known by their surname or number. Because many of the men do not receive visitors it is the only place they can enjoy conversation with someone who is not paid to be there or other inmates. Inmates hear the gospel from their Pastor Bob Chell but experience the gospel through outside visitors. The key to St. Dysmas dynamic and vibrant worship and their congregation s success is this link with outside visitors. Participants in this mini mission trip need to be 18 years of age or older. They will need to cover their own expenses, including meals and a hotel room. Additional activities may be planned by the group. Participants will be required to submit background forms prior to being approved for entry. Forms are available at the church and will need to be returned by October 3rd. This opportunity is open to anyone in and around the Hermosa community. Space is limited. Questions or for more information, contact Pastor Deb.

An Invitation to Martin Luther very frequently had students and colleagues gathered around his dinner table at his home drinking beer and eating food while conversing and debating life, the church and the Bible. This was a great time of fellowship and learning. Some of these discussions were written down and published in The of Martin Luther. Following the tradition of Luther, each of you are invited to be a part of a conversation this month. My hope is that these small group gatherings will allow me to learn more about you, you to learn more about me and all of us to have a chance to talk about our hopes and dreams for the community of faith at Our Savior s. I will bring questions to facilitate the conversation as we partake in drinks and snacks. dates/locations include: *Each gathering will be approximately one hour *A variety of times/places are available to hopefully allow all to find a time that works in your schedule. 6 Mission of the Month for September Pine Ridge Retreat Center The Lutheran Retreat Center has been a hopping place this summer with groups from across the nation coming to stay and serve the people of Pine Ridge and the surrounding area as well as learn about the Native American people and culture. Pastor Kay has been working hard on behalf of the whole church to facilitate relational ministry between these groups and those who live in Pine Ridge. Early in August, the retreat center had experienced a citywide sewer backup in the lower level. The mess has been cleaned up and repairs are waiting until there is a lull in retreats. At about the same time the air conditioning went out and needed to be replaced. There is insurance for the sewer issue with a $1,000 deductible and a cap of $10,000. There is no insurance for the air conditioning and the cost for replacement is approximately $5,000. Donations collected this month will help defray the costs of bringing the needed repairs and replacement of equipment to our retreat center. Thank you for your generosity. To contribute to this mission, please drop your donation in the Globe offering, the Mission Donation Box in the fellowship hall or in the offering plate. Please write checks to Our Savior s with Mission in the memo line. Our Savior's Lutheran Church P.O.
