2 Summer Worship Series Our Stories One of the things that makes a great story even better is the potential to find ourselves in it. It becomes our story. That s certainly true of the stories in the bible. This summer we ll look at some of the most well-known and more obscure stories in the bible. In them we ll discover the truth about God and the truth about ourselves. July 1: Abraham and Sarah- Blessed to be a Blessing July 8: Queen Esther- Standing up for What s Right July 15: Mary and Martha- Balancing Life July 22: Feeding the Miracles of Abundance July 29: Joshua and the Wall- Justice of God August 5: Food in a Faith Crisis- God will Provide August 12: Deborah the Leader- God calls us to stand up for Justice August 19: Swallowing Jonah- God is faithful, even when we struggle to be August 26: Promising Naomi- Promises do Matter Planning for the Future In the past couple years, we have completed a vision, mission, and value plan for Family of Christ and now it s time for the next step. We are looking for individuals to serve on task forces who would help us with short and long-term planning. If you have gifts of planning and seeing the bigger picture, please let Pastor Brent, Lisa Tulisaari, or the office know. Planning will occur for two to three meetings from mid July through the end of August. Living Your Strengths Wednesday, August 22nd 6:30-8:30 As a congregation we would like to help you to identify and affirm your giftedness and talents and begin to use them to live your life to the fullest. Using the Clifton Strengths Finder we will begin this journey with a new group this summer. Our hope is to have all of our members to be part of this program. Cost is $20 and includes the test and a book. If you already know your Strengths Finder themes then there is no cost. Registration by August 12 th. Contact Pastor Brent with any questions. Sign up at office@familyofchrist.com or on the bulletin board in the narthex. 2

There are needs for some general outdoor maintenance, painting of trim and windows, and some landscaping projects. Please sign up to help on the bulletin board in the narthex. We really could use your help. Join us on August 12 th as we celebrate the summer with an outdoor worship and community picnic. Come and join us for this fun and fellowship event. Bring something to share or just yourself. Youth Volleyball IS Back! ALL th graders, friends & alumni are invited, welcome & encouraged to come Wednesday nights to our LIGHT Nights from 6:30-8pm. We start at 6:30 with some conversations about various topics, current issues, etc. before we head outside for volleyball. THIS year, we are going to spend some time discussing & creating our own personal toolboxes filled with coping skills. Everyone has different things that are hard to cope with...anxiety, fear of failure, confrontations, family issues...and the list goes on. So, grab a friend and show up in the youth room on Wednesday nights. Let's begin finding tools to help us all be better at dealing with the stuff that comes our way! Take note: No volleyball on July 4 & 25 or Aug. 8. The last night Wed. night we meet during the summer is Aug. 29. LUTHER PARK Twelve kids from Family of Christ went to Luther Park Bible Camp this Summer. They headed out on June 17th for either a half week or a full week of awesome programming, music, food and friends! We know that God is present in all places and certainly surrounded them while they were away from their families. Thank you to our congregation for your support, whether financial or spiritual. A special thank you to a very generous donation that provided each camper with a $150 scholarship!! Our campers: Jenna Flegel, Roselyn, Maddie & Donny Bergquist, Abe Davidson, Mason Peterson, Cade Hatlestad, Morgan King Fenn, Alex Nelson, Archer, Terran & Haakon Hendrickson. Ask them about their experience! 6
7 CAMPING TRIP TO LANESBORO August 5-8 Youth (going into 8th grade or older) are invited to a 3 night camping trip to Eagle Cliff Campground in Lanesboro, MN, located on the Root River. Informational meeting is Wednesday, July 11. All youth planning on participating in the camping trip need to attend the meeting at 6:30pm to go over the logistics of the trip. FaceBook! We have a Family of Christ Youth oriented FaceBook page. It's not a public group, so ask any member to join! You can find us using this: FoChrist Youth Group. We try to keep it updated with events, activities and photos. Get connected & stay informed!! Congratulations to our Graduating Seniors! On June 3rd our high school seniors were recognized and given special gifts of embroidered fleece blankets to help them remember that God is always with them and their church family loves them! If you are one of our seven seniors, and you were unable to be here to get your blanket, you can pick it up in the office. "BIKE MINISTRY" RIGHT UNDER OUR NOSES! Do you know Neil Gutzman? He and his wife, Maggie, are members and regular worshippers with us here at FoC. Neil has been fixing up old, broken bikes and giving them away to kids in need. Early in May, I was helping Michelle Franke, from the CAP Agency, she was talking about some men who recently moved into Burnsville and working on becoming more independent. Only one of them had a car and the others could really use some bikes. I immediately thought of Neil and his bikes. About 3 weeks later, Neil had 4 beautiful bikes to give to the men in Burnsville! Michelle's eyes lit up when she came to pick them up. I learned that the men were equally as excited. Next time you see Neil at church, thank him for this wonderful gift. His 'bike ministry' will sure change the everyday lives of these men and, probably, make their struggle a little bit less. Thank YOU Neil for sharing your handy skills and being so generous!! Peace, Sherry Goodman 7
