2 THE INSIDE STORY Noorda Sheet Metal Company: Continuing Leadership in Excellence of Craftsmanship Jack Berridge Chairman of the Board Over the past thirteen years, the Las Vegas economy has prospered and Noorda Sheet Metal has grown from a one-man operation to one of the top architectural sheet metal companies in the area. Since their inception, this Berridge Licensee firm has averaged more than two hundred projects per year, including their own new offices and sheet metal shop. The projects pictured in this issue show the broad range of work performed by Noorda Sheet Metal and most importantly their skill and craftsmanship in working with sheet metal. LaMar Noorda grew up in the sheet metal business, working in his father's sheet metal shop in Salt Lake City. His dad's company, founded in the late fifties, did ductwork, ornamental ironwork and specialty sheet metal products. When LaMar came to Las Vegas in nineteen eighty nine, he spent six years working for a company who was one of the first sheet metal contractors in the area to become a Berridge Licensee. LaMar quickly realized the potential of architectural sheet metal and founded Noorda Sheet Metal Company in Since then, the Las Vegas area has grown at a phenomenal rate. Most of Noorda Sheet Metal Company's work is in the commercial infrastructure rather than the large hotels and casinos. New schools, shopping centers, offices and other facilities have contributed to Noorda's rapid growth. The company has completed more than 3,000 projects over the past thirteen years. In describing his company's business philosophy, LaMar Noorda says, "Our project experience over the past thirteen years provides us with the expertise to give the architect and building owner exactly what they need...and Berridge supports us with the product, technical and warranty support which we need to compete in our market! Noorda constructed their own office and shop facility. The 16,000 square foot facility houses a complete sheet metal shop operation with the latest in computer-aided press brakes and shears. The building itself is a showcase for a variety of Berridge architectural metal products as well as custom sheet metal cornicework and ornamental ironwork crafted by Noorda Sheet Metal.

Schoeman, AIA, LEED AP, President; and Dean Lanuke, AIA, NCARB, Project Manager JMA opened its doors in 1945 and is the oldest and one of the largest architectural firms in Nevada. A major factor in JMA's growth was the establishment of five separate design studios, a strategic move implemented by the firm's president, Thomas J. Schoeman, AIA, LEED AP. These five studios include Healthcare, Hospitality, Commercial, Education and Public. Each studio brings together the best possible team of knowledge, talent and resources. Through this specialized expertise, the client soon realizes the reality of their dream design. Architecture, interiors and graphic design merge to deliver branded environments and holistic design solutions. Schoeman, president of JMA, has worked to increase its capabilities to better serve the client, the design demands of today and the community. During the last ten years, JMA has designed more than sixty million square feet of intelligently designed facilities. JMA's Education Studio designed the present elementary school prototype and the first twostory elementary school prototype for the Clark County School District. 7 design of one such school, the Sister Robert Joseph Bailey Elementary School. Long-life color finishes, low maintenance and aesthetic appearance were key factors in product specification. Architectural metal products were also utilized on the JMA corporate offices, as shown on the photo at right: large barrel vaulted standing seam roofs form a design element which draws attention to the firm's creative capabilities.
