This also means I will be taking leave of the city on the move. I am reminded as I leave of a story about a pastor who announces to his flock that he would be leaving. He became chocked up and could not continue to speak. So the Council President stood up and said: Now friends let us join together in singing What a friend we have in Jesus. I have spent 20 years in your midst. Way to long for some and not enough for others. 2 I think back to Lenten Suppers and services. I recall my giving money to SS Kids around thanksgiving to be spent by them in a charitable way. My eyes moisten as I remember Vikki Arndt and Sophie Moen, Glen Ruchti and Charley Roethe, Doug and Henry and Dean and Wayne and Rob. I am humbled by the prayers of Joyce and Inez, Irene and Sophie. I recall the agony and ecstasy of confirmation. I am proud although it brought out much ill will to stand fast on the gospel and encouraged us to welcome all to the table. I remember washing many in the grace and mercy of baptism. I savor my role in VBS. I ask forgiveness for the disaster called the 2014 Christmas program. What I am most grateful for is every time I put on my alb and stole. The highs and lows never ground you. The everyday grace of God centered in Word and Sacrament in other words the love of a Savior who will never let us go! I will begin my new call in the hill country on September 1. As Joseph told his brothers so now I tell you: With God it is all good! ~pc MINUTES OF THE CHURCH COUNCIL OF ST. 3 Pastor Miller Pastor introduced Pastor Short. He came to give us some information about Family Promise. He first thanked us for our fundraiser for Family Promise. Then he gave us the four things that need to be in place for Family Promise to open their doors: 1. Host Churches- They would like churches (They have 10 as of now) 2. A Day Center- St. Clement in Lancaster has committed to being the Day Center 3. Fundraising- Currently they are around $52,000. The yearly budget would be $95,000-$100, Hire a director and have transportation for the families to make the day center usable. They would like St. Peter to be one of the Host Churches. It could be four weeks a year. We would be responsible for providing a family style meal for dinner. A grab and go breakfast and a place for sleeping at the church. (They would provide a cot and bedding) They would ask for 2 people to stay overnight with the families. They most people we would be housing at one time would be no more than 15. 4 BUDGET REVIEW Finance chair Renee Friesen presented the proposed 2015 budget as shown in the annual report, noting that all committee chairs worked hard again this past year to stay within their individual committee budgets. There were only a couple of slight changes made from last year; otherwise the proposed budget is about the same. This budget was presented to the Council in December and is before the congregation for review and acceptance today. Bill Wood moved to adopt the budget as presented in the annual report, second by Brandee Lendosky; motion carried. COMMITTEE/OTHER REPORTS Mission Endowment chair Bill Wood gave a brief report regarding this fund. The fund has continued to perform very well and the committee recently recommended a withdrawal of $4,000 to be disbursed to St. Peter, designating it to be used for Raise the Roof principal retirement. Bill encouraged anyone interested in learning more about the possibility of contributing to this fund to contact him or any member of the Mission Endowment committee. PASTOR CHUCK MILLER Pastor Miller gave a brief message on one of his favorite maxims, We see things not as they are but as we are, and reflected on how this has recently been revealed in his own life. He thanked the church staff of office assistant Merry Cooley and custodian Steve Cooley for their gracious support, and asked that all members continue to support April and him with prayers as he works through times of darkness and difficulty. He also asked that the congregation continue to give serious consideration to how we can continue to support our church and community with our time and talents. Announced a 4 taco supper/silent auction will be held Wednesday, Feb. 11 to help raise money for the additional matching funds of up to $5,000 being offered from Thrivent until Feb. 28. Ingeborg Froiland moved to adjourn, second by Bethany Baumgartner. Motion carried. We closed with the Lord s Prayer. Respectfully submitted by Becky Trefz, Secretary SEMIANNUAL TREASURER S REPORT FOR June 2015 By Phil Nelson Balance 12/31/14 $ 4, Receipts & Transfers $ 90, Subtotal $ 95, Disbursements $ 92, Balance 6/30/15 $ 1, This is an excerpt from Treasurer Phil Nelson s report at the semi- annual meeting, and although they will be part of the minutes of the meeting they need to be heard now. Phil concludes: There is no question but that Christianity is under attack today as it has been throughout its existence. The beheadings in the Middle East and continuing efforts of freedom from religion people to strip our culture of the religious slogans and symbols which represent the foundation of the moral fiber of our country bear witness to this persecution. I ask myself what can I, as an individual, do to combat these attempts to destroy what I believe in? The answer, I believe, is in St. Peter Lutheran Church, and in other Christian congregations. Strong, wellfunded congregations are able to send benevolence to the parent church organizations (in our case the ELCA) to be used for aid to the needy and for support of Christian missions. Under the umbrella of a well-funded church s local efforts- such as the St. Peter Marketplace and the recent Thrivent Match challenge- we can thrive. Unfortunately, funding for St. Peter has been lacking in recent years. We have been forced to use savings funds to meet daily operational expenses. The Future Needs savings account- originally intended to provide funding for maintenance projectshas been reduced from over $15,000 to less

5 than $5,000 in just the last three years. Unless contributions to the general account increase dramatically, this account will be drained. I firmly believe in the mission of St. Peter Lutheran Church and the role it can play in responding to Christianity s critics. My wife and I pledge to support the church by doubling the amount we contributed last year as this year s contribution. I ask each of you to join me in providing the financial support necessary to make St. Peter a wellfunded congregation. At least one person at the meeting met his challenge and promised to double theirs as well. $25 Your Name Goes Here LET S FILL OUR PARKING LOT! You should have noticed that the parking lot has now been seal coated and looking pretty good! The cost of the project was $ Currently there is a fund raising event going on where you can place your name on a sticker and purchase a car for $ Pretty reasonable for a car, don t you think? We need to get at least 145 cars in the parking lot to meet our goal. So let s fill the parking lot and get it done as we always do All proceeds will go to paying for the seal coating bill. Remember our goal is $ ! ST Peter Families Shine Ever so Brightly Congratulations to Fennimore Family of the Year, Marg, Aaron, Sara, Aidan and Jessica Peterson & Steve, Brandee, Lucas and Peyton Lendosky for receiving the NBC Channel 15 s, Making a Difference Award for July Well deserved but we always knew you were special!! Train a child in the right way and when old, they will not stray, Proverbs, 22:6 Parish Education, August 2015 Shortly I will begin searching for both curriculum and staff to help run a new year of Sunday School. Please consider volunteering, even if just occasionally. Every person s presence helps us bring the light of God s love to the children in our congregation. The children s offering from last year will be sent toward the St. Peter Benevolence areas to help forward St. Peter s mission to help those in need. The VBS offering will be sent to Healthy Yak, an organization that brings veterinary supplies and skills to the yak population in the Himalayas- as our theme had been Everest. As always, please feel free to call, or me with any questions. Enjoy the rest of your summer! Brandee ****************** Worship/Music submitted by Ingeborg Froiland August folks used to say the Dog days of summer. Please continue to sign up for worship duties for the respective services. And please share your favorite hymn with us as part of our service. Sheets are located on tables in the narthex and the fellowship hall. We will be having a farewell meal for Pastor Chuck as he leaves us on September 1. It will be held the on Sunday, August 23 following 9am service that morning. Please watch for more details as they will follow. 5
