1 REPORTS OF THE NORTH DAKOTA DISTRICT LWML BOARD OF DIRECTORS Meeting of March 8, 2014 Bismarck, ND

2 REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT: Paulette Huber From November, 2013 to March 2014 this officer has: Thanked God for the opportunity to serve as your ND LWML President along with the officers serving this beloved mission organization! Maintained the District prayer chain, taking and forwarding all petition and praise requests to our dear Lord. Prayed often for our Lutheran Women in Mission at all levels and for all those who are touched by our missions, especially Sat. morns 9 minutes at 9AM during A Cup with Kay and every Monday at Noon, praying for our District and National Missions and Mite Goal. Enjoy personal devotions and various group Bible studies to grow in the Lord. Corresponded with President Kay and other national committee members as needed. Corresponded with ND district officers and committees as needed. Wrote articles for the ND website and the ND newsletter, The Messenger, editing the original copy from the Newsletter Editor. Reviewed and signed checks for payments of vouchered expenses and approved grants. Conducted my fourth BOD meeting, in Bismarck on November 16. Participated in a Web Ex District President Meeting with President Kay, Jan. 26. Attended my 2 nd LWML BOD meeting, Feb. 6-9 in St. Louis. Corresponded with the ND LWML membership, encouraging them to change their LWML calendar year to Sept. 1 to Aug. 31 to coincide with District and National; to remind them to send changed bylaws to district for approval; and to encourage District Convention attendance in Wahpeton on June Conducted June Convention preparation and business: Assigned a Choir Director, Nurse, Accompanist; Ordered Convention materials for registration packets, etc.; Worked on tentative agenda for the convention manual; and conferred with Convention Manager, Rhonda Hoge on other convention preparations. Sent out the Call to Meeting, and November minutes for this Board Meeting. Compiled, wrote, and sent out the Agenda for this Board Meeting. Serving the Lord with Gladness, President Paulette

3 REPORT OF THE VP OF MISSION GRANTS: Nikki Tyrrell Psalm 115:1 With great joy, I report that I have been able to mail 3 payments to mission grant recipients: $7,000 to the North Dakota Church Worker Scholarship; $2,000 to Lutheran Bible Translators; $2,850 to Martin Luther School And $5,000 to Christ the Way Radio Ministries. I have also continued to: Pray for our district and national officers; Be in bible study with sisters in Christ; Pray for items on our prayer chain; Lift our mission grant recipients in prayer; Communicate with mission grant recipients; And provide and The Messenger with updates. Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. 4 REPORT OF RECORDING SECRETARY: Debbie Larson Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and blameless in His eyes. Deuteronomy 10:12 As a representative of Lutheran Women in Mission and as the recording secretary for the ND LWML, I have, from the November 2013 meeting to present: Prayed for all officers and members of the LWML, and for all those who will hear of Christ through this organization. Wrote minutes of the November 16, 2013 board meeting, sent them to Minutes Review, made recommended corrections, sent to President Paulette for distribution. Updated the District Database as needed. I continue to serve at the Public Relations Director for national LWML and regret having to miss this March 8 meeting, but I will be representing the LWML in Austin that weekend. God blesses your meeting! 6 REPORT OF THE JUNIOR COUNSELOR: Pastor Tim Jenks Keeping the LWML in our prayers seems to be good, right and salutary, correct? I also attended a Committee meeting for planning the 2014 Fall Retreat. In HIS Service & Love Pastor Tim Jenks REPORT OF NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Geneal Roth, Chairman Reporting Period: November 2013-March 2014 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me the task of testifying to the good news of God s grace. Acts 20:24 Mailed invitations to pastoral candidates in order of votes received from Board of Directors Teamed with committee members to contact potential candidates Responded to inquiries, s, and correspondence Submitted article for January/February/March newsletter Continue to pray for candidates to fill our slate for the 2014 District Convention! Roth Nominating Committee Chairman REPORT OF THE ARCHIVIST-HISTORIAN: Nikki Rahlf This report is from November 16, 2013 to March 8, I continue to work on the files and file papers trying to catch up on the items that are missing. Attended the November BOD meeting in Bismarck. Again I remind district officers, especially VP s, please keep a copy of material you distribute to the local units and zone personnel. It is very important to keep on file in our archives a copy of everything we do. I still have the Southeast Zone, the Southwest Zone, and the Northwest Zone to give presentations to. Hopefully at their 2014 Spring Rallies if schedules allow it. I have received and prayed for all the prayer requests on the LWML Prayer Chain. I also keep President Kay, President Paulette and all Board members in prayer that we continue to serve our Lord with gladness and preserve our history for future generations. 7 REPORT OF MEETING COORDINATOR: Renee Johnson I compiled and ed reports for the November 2013 Board of Directors meeting. Worked with the Chieftain in Carrington to reschedule the November 2013 meeting. Booked hotel rooms for the rescheduled November meeting in Bismarck, attended the meeting, provided and served breakfast. I have done initial research on transportation to the 2015 Convention in Des Moines. Booked hotel rooms for the March 2014 Board of Directors Meeting in Bismarck Gratefully gave praise for Judy Luebke who volunteered to serve lunch for the March 2014 meeting. Participated in the prayer needs of the ND District LWML REPORT OF THE WEBMASTER: Marie Johnson REPORT OF THE PARLIAMENTARIAN: Bonnie Krenz This officer with help of God has: Answered a bylaw question posted Marie from Canada Took part in the prayer chain requests Serving the Lord with Gladness, Bonnie Krenz Parliamentarian REPORT OF THE CONVENTION MANAGER: Rhonda Hoge Prayed for the 2014 LWML ND District Convention Contacted Betty Veland at NDSCS about contract and breakout rooms for Sat noon Contacted Elizabeth at NDSCS housing to reserve rooms in dorms and confirm price Corresponded with Carol Luebke, Mary Lueke, President Paulette, Wanda Zietlow, Chantel Zellers about convention Sent information to Darci Wolff for registration form Sent theme suggestions for the 2016 convention to Sue Corwin, Karen Puffe and President Paulette Prepared items for discussion/action for BOD If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him. John 7:37-38

8 REPORT OF BYLAWS COMMITTEE: Karen Puffe REPORT OF GIFTS & BEQUESTS COMMITTEE: Sue Corwin I participated in the district prayer chain. The account statement as of December 31, 2013 reports the following: 0.25% Cash equivalents $ % Domestic fixed income 42, % Global balanced 102, % $ 145, I received information that $1, was the quarterly income that was reinvested. The 20% of funds received from memorials and honorariums was sent to the foundation. The committee recommends that the $3,500 from Lorraine Fenske be deposited into the endowment fund. Serving with gladness Sue Corwin Gifts and Bequests Chairman ZONE PRESIDENT S REPORTS Zone President Report, Central Zone (Sue Corwin) Zone officers: Sue Corwin, president; Karen Puffe, vice-president; Kathie Hay, sec./treasurer; Counselor, Pastor Biberdorf. The Central Zone Spring Rally will be held at Concordia in Jamestown with LaMoure hosting. The rally will be on April 5th. The theme for the Rally is Showers of Grace based on Titus 3:5-8b. We will have a servant event. Our ingathering will be Christ The Way radio program. Date for Fall Rally has not been chosen yet or a speaker has not been chosen. The rally will be held in Edgeley. Pres: Marge Asche Sec: Joan Beyer Counselor: Pastor Sean Daenzer Attended Board of Directors Meeting on November 16 in Bismarck Opened checking account for the State Convention at Bank of the West, Lidgerwood, ND On February 18, 2014, had a meeting in Wahpeton with representatives from each unit in the Southeast District concerning the State Convention to be held in Wahpeton, ND. On February 24, 2014, had a meeting in Wahpeton with the director of Dining services to select a menu for two breakfasts and a lunch for the State Convention in June.

The theme will be Go and Do from Luke 10: At the time of this writing, not all the details have been finalized. Theme Suggestions for 2016 Convention June 24-26, Jamestown 1. Abounding Grace Abounding Goodness And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times and having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 Cor. 9:8 2. Blessed to be a Blessing You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service you provide is not only supplying the needs of God s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. 2 Cor. 9: Rejoice in God s Bounty They will rejoice in the bounty of the Lord the grain, the new wine and the oil, the young of the flocks and the herds. They will be like a well-watered garden, and they will sorrow no more. Then maidens will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow. I will satisfy the priests with abundance, and my people will be filled with my bounty, declares the Lord. Jer. 31:12b Celebrating God s Abundant Goodness They will speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty, and I will meditate on your wonderful works. They will tell of the power of your awesome works, and I will proclaim your great deeds. They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness. The Lord is gracious and passionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he made. Ps. 145: Abundant Blessings If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today all these blessings will come to you the Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the Lord and walk in his ways the Lord will grant you abundant prosperity Deut. 28:1-11

11 ND LWML District Bylaws: ARTICLE XV - MISSION GRANT PROPOSALS Section 1 Mission grant proposals shall be submitted in resolution form to the Vice President of Mission Grants at least six (6) months prior to the District Convention. Proposals may be submitted by LWML individuals, societies, units, zones, or LCMS Boards. Section 2 The convention may approve mission grants based on the amount of funds anticipated in the next biennium. Section 3 The following stipulations shall be observed in the administration of the District funds: a. No grants shall be made that necessitate a permanent subsidy from the funds. b. No grants shall be made to cover deficits or shortages in LCMS treasuries. c. No grants shall be made with borrowed funds. d. After payment of grants has been made, the responsibility of the District ceases. e. Reports on the progress of the work made possible by grants shall be published in the District newsletter. f. Funds voted for a mission grant must be disbursed or put to use within a two (2) biennium period, one (1) from the time of voting and the biennium following, or be reallocated by the District. g. The convention body may extend the time for one (1) biennium in the case of extenuating circumstances. h. In the event that changes in the Mission Grant plans occur, the District Board of Directors shall be authorized to act either in session, by mail, or electronic messaging.
