1 SISTER JEANETTE HENDRIX The Church was saddened when Sister Jeanette Hendrix passed away at a local hospital on February 2, She was born in Savannah, Georgia on October 13, 1900, and the daughter of John Chester Hindrix and Catherine Jeanette Morgan. After the death of her father, when she was very young, her mother married Mr. L. A. Warnock of Brooklet, Georgia. Here with her sisters and brothers she enjoyed a happy girlhood with the children of this marriage. It was during this time that she joined the Brooklet Primitive Baptist Church. On June 2, 1931, she was married in Miami, Florida, to Mr. Vernon J. Hendrix, Sr. To them was born Vernon J. Hendrix Jr. in Her husband died when Vernon Jr., was 18 and she returned to Atlanta, Georgia, for residence with her Sister and shortly there after united with the Atlanta Primitive Baptist Church. Her quite but unwavering devotion to her family and Church has been an example for all of us and she will be greatly missed. She will be particularly missed by her large and loving family, the immediate members of which are: her son and daughter-in-law, Dr., and Mrs.Vernon J. Hendrix, Jr., Grandchildren, Vernon J. Hendrix III, and Laura Marie Hendrix, her sisters, Mrs. Mamie Ramsey, and Mrs. J. P. Clair, Mrs. W. M. Townley, Mrs. Fletcher Kirkland; her brother, Mr. Walter Morgan and Step Mother, Mrs. Loraine Warnock. Approved in conference of the Atlanta Primitive Baptist Church, March 15, Committee DEACON ROGER ALLEN SIMS Our Church was grieved on November 17, 1958 by the sudden passing of our beloved Brother and Deacon. Roger Allen Sims. He was born May 12, 1894 at Concord, Georgia, and is the son of the late Sallie E, Franklin of Alabama and George Franklin Sims of Greenville, Georgia. On December 27, 1919 he was married to Miss Alma May Dewberry, daughter of the late Doctor and Mrs. T. J. Dewberry of Macon Georgia. To this union were born three daughters, Eleanor, Jane and Hazel. Besides his wife the survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Hoss, Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Jane Scott, Marietta, Georgia; six grandchildren; three sisters, miss Mable Sims, Mrs. J. O. Finklen' Mrs. H. T. Williams; two brothers, Frank G Sims and C. W. Sims. Funeral services were conducted at Springhill Funeral Home in Atlanta by his pastor Elder V. F. Agan, Elder P. O. Revels, Sr. and Elder W. A. Mullis. Interment was in Decatur Cemetery. Brother Roger Lived a full life, having served in the National Guard on the Mexican Border and in France during World War 1. He was a charter member of the Atlanta Primitive Baptist Church, coming by letter from Sharon Primitive Baptist Church. His life was one of faithful service to his fellowman as well as his Church, and we shall miss him very much. 2 On Friday, December 18, 1959 our beloved Brother in Christ, William Earnest Bishop passed away at the Georgia Baptist Hospital. Atlanta, Georgia He was the son of Gertrude Grines Bishop and William Randolph Bishop, born on March 17, 1911 in Emanuel County. He was married to Miss Lucille Turner in Swainsboro, Georgia on October 12, 1930, To this union was born five sons, William A. Bishop, Earl E. Bishop, Otis Lamar Bishop, James E. Bishop, and Bobby L. Bishop. His wife and these five sons, one grandson, Perry Bishop, three brothers, Loren Bishop, Virgil Bishop, Rawlston Bishop, and several nieces survive Brother Bishop and nephews survive Brother Bishop. In 1950 he joined the Swainsboro Primitive Baptist Church, where he enjoyed a Church home until June He moved his membership to the Atlanta Primitive Baptist Church. He was faithful in attendance to his Church to his Church until his illness and suffering prevented him from doing so. Funeral services were held to the Swainsboro Primitive Baptist Church on Sunday December 20, 1959 by his pastor Elder Virgil F. Agan, with Elder A. Roberts and Elder R. Riner assisting. Burial was in the City Cemetery, Swainsboro, Georgia. We thank God for this opportunity of Christian fellowship with this dear Brother, and pray God's richest blessings to his family and loved ones. Sister Enoch F. Hicks LONNIE AUGUSTUS WARNOCK On Saturday morning. October 28, 1961 our Senior Deacon. And Brother in Christ, Lonnie Augustus Warnock passed away at the Crawford W, Long Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia. He was the son of James Augustus Warnock and Janie McElveen Warnock, born in Bulloch County, Georgia on September 15, Brother Lonnie united first with the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church, under the preaching of Elder Marshall Thomas about His membership was later placed in the Brooklet Primitive Baptist Church and from 1925 to 1927 was a member with the Miami Primitive Baptist Church. In 1927 he moved to East Point, Georgia and transferred his membership to the Atlanta Primitive Baptist Church. During his entire Church Life he was truly an untiring worker of the Lord, and regarded by all his fellowman as a peacemaker or balance wheel. He loved unity in his Church and sought to maintain this at all times. After retiring from his produce business, he spent many hours at his Church working on the yard to make it more beautiful. His Church was always his obligation and first concern, thereby fulfilling the duties of a Prince in Israel. In 1920 he became affiliated with the Aloe Temple of the Shrine in Savannah, Georgia. There were two daughters, Louise Augusta Kirkland and Aubrey Mae Townley, and a son Frederick Floyd Warnock born to Brother Lonnie and his first wife, the late Katherine Richardson Morgan Warnock; the son preceded his father in death by four years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Loraine Zellner Warnock, two daughters, Mrs. Audrey Mae Townley and Mrs. Louise Augusta Kirkland; four stepchildren, Mrs., Mamie Morgan Ramsey, Mrs. Bessie Morgan Clair. Mrs. Jeanette Morgan Hindrix and Mr. Walter L. Morgan, and several grandchildren. 175

3 Funeral services was held at Spring Hill, Atlanta, Georgia Sunday, October 29, 1961 at 2:00 P. M. with Elders Virgil F. Agan and J. Harley Chapman, Jr. officiating. Another funeral service was held on Monday October 30, 1961 at 11:00 A. M. at the Brooklet Primitive Baptist Church, with Elders Virgil F. Agan and George R. Daniel officiating, followed with burial in the Brooklet Cemetery. We thank God for the opportunity of Christian Fellowship with this man and pray God's blessing be bestowed on his bereaved family and love ones. Submitted by Sister Enoch F. Hicks ENOCHF.HICKS On September 4, 1976 our hearts were saddened by the news that our beloved member, Deacon. Enoch F. Hicks had suddenly passed away. Brother Hicks was born in Thomasville, Georgia October 19, 1900 in June of 1924 he was married to Miss Gertrue Elliott and to this union was born one son, Enoch J. Hicks. For thirtyeight years he served as Southeastern Regional Service Manager for White Motor Company. In 1952 he moved from Decatur, Georgia to Cobb County where he built the Dixieland Motel. Later acquiring a second motel and eventually building the Mobil Home Park in Douglas County, which he operated until the time of his death. In 1943 he joined the Atlanta Primitive Baptist Church and was baptized by Elder P. O. Revels, Sr. In 1954 he was ordained a Deacon. And began many years of devoted service to not only the Atlanta Church but also the Denomination generally. When this congregation decided, against great odds, to proceed with the construction of its new Church, Brother Hicks was made Chairman of the Building Committee. He worked untiringly, during normal work hours with White Motor Company as well as after work hours, to see that the Church was properly constructed and the membership pleased with every phase. When the Church was dedicated on January 11, 1959, he surely was among the most humbly proud. No one had contributed more. A gentle unassuming man, he basked in the love of his family, and, in later years his three precious Grandsons. Through all his endeavors for the advancement of his Church, his business and his fellowman, his devoted wife, son and loving daughter-in-law always supported him in a very unique way. Our knowing him and our shared services in God's household has enriched the lives of us all. We pray that Gods continued blessings be with his family as they adjust to life without him. His son, Enoch 1. Hicks, Grandsons Eric Jerome Hicks, Brett Ferrell Hicks, and Mark Andrew Hicks survive him. One Brother Frank J. Hicks. Interment was at West View Cemetery. MYRTlE HUFF Our Church lost one of its most beloved members on February 19, 1978, when Sister Dan (Myrtie) Huffpassed away. 176

4 Myrtie Eldora Willingham was born November 12, 1888, in Pike County, Georgia, and the daughter of James Griffm and Emma Dean Willingham. At about 16 years of age she joined a small country Primitive Baptist Church. In 1908 she was married to James Frederick Gardner, an architect and builder. For several years they lived on Berne Street in the Grant Park area of Atlanta. When his health began to fail they moved to Lamar County, Georgia, where he established a successful sawmill operation and built a new family home. By now the family had been blessed with five children, three boys and two girls. Brother Gardner died September 21, 1925, in Macon, Georgia while attending a Primitive Baptist Association meeting, he being a Deacon. Representing the local Church. He was buried the day before their youngest child was one year old. Now myrtie Gardner was a widow with a mortgaged farm, two teen-aged sons, and three very small little ones to support. Selling the Macon farm to her Brother-in-law, she moved back to Atlanta, and keeping her family together, worked very hard with her boarding house. These were lean depression years, but life got better and as the children grew up the workload lessened. About 1935 Myrtie Gardner married Dan Huff who had two sons, Alton and Dan, Jr. This was a happy union and lasted until his death in March In 1973 with her health rapidly declining she moved to a retirement apartment near both her son and daughter, Evelyn. She easily adjusted to life there enjoying the association with Christian people at their weekly Bible Study and Prayer Meetings, but continued to worship at this Church when her health permitted. Sister Huff united with the Atlanta Primitive Baptist Church in Her strong, uncompromising faith and great loyalty to the Church inspired all around her. She joyfully and faithfully performed any duty given her in the Church. Sister Huffwas Bible School Treasury for years, working with Brother Huff on the Bible Study reports, supporting the ladies' Circle, entertaining the preachers; she considered it all a high privilege. For many years Sisters Huff, Leona Sutton, Robert Woodall and Lorraine Warnock worshipped side by side on two Church pews up front of this Church, always cherishing their moments together and rejoicing in hearing the gospel they loved so long and so dearly. When they fmally learned each had been born in 1888 a unique and even closer feeling of sister-hood was born, they love to tell about that. Of the four only Sister Warnock survives. Sister Huffloved the Church, leaned heavily on the Lord and felt He never forsook her. Her daughter has quoted her as saying many times: "The Lord has not failed me yet, and I don't think He will now". She loved her pastor's Revels, Agan, Simms, Carrin and all the others. But dearest of all, she said, was Elder Carrino Elder Carrin had officiated at so many of her family's funerals. They were many. Preceding her death, in addition to her husbands were three sons: Lewis Carlton in 1972, Raymond Edgar in 1973, and Thomas Marshall in 1977, also both stepsons in Two daughters, Mrs. J. W. Lynch, East Point, Georgia, and Mrs. H. J. New of Atlanta, Georgia survive her. Ten grand children and seven great grand children also survive. Elder Charles C. Carrin conducted her funeral on February 21, 1978, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery. We pray God's grace and comfort will sustain her family as they realign their lives without her. 6 OUR COVENANT WE do solemnly promise that we will be faithful in the study of God's Word, and prayer; that we will attend all our Church meetings when possible to do so; that we will labor unitedly and zealously for the Master's Cause, seeking at all times His Glory, and the advancement of His Kingdom, and that we will strive daily to crucify the flesh and live such lives that we may be a light unto the world, and show forth the praises of Him who has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. We promise that we will ever labor for the peace and fellowship so necessary for the best interest of the Church, making whatever personal sacrifice may be necessary; that we will lovingly watch over each other for good, and whenever any shall go astray either in faith or practice, we will kindly, lovingly and faithfully seek to save such a one from the error of his way, that he may enjoy richly the blessings of God's House and sweet joys of salvation, and that none of God's children be lost to our Church. We promise to contribute freely of our carnal things for the support of the Church, and that each will give as the Lord has prospered him that our ministry may give themselves wholly to the work whereunto God has called them. And for Grace to enable us to so live and labor we do most earnestly pray. 179
