1 RECORDS FOR VIRGINIA COUNTIES 1600s and 1700s ALBEMARLE County, created 1744 from Goochland Co. and Louisa Co. It was a parent county for Amherst Co. (created 1761) and Bedford Co. (created 1753 from Albemarle and Lunenburg Cas.). AMELIA County, created 1734 from Brunswick Co. and Prince George Co. It was a parent county for Prince Edward County (created 1752), Nottoway Co. (created 1788). AMHERST County, created 1761 from Albemarle Co. It was a parent county for Nelson Co. (created 1807). AUGUSTA County, created 1761 from Orange Co. It was a parent county for Botetourt Co. (created 1769), Bath Co. (created 1790 from Augusta, Botetourt, Greenbrier Cas.), Frederick Co. (created 1738 from Orange Co. and Augusta Co.), Rockbridge Co. (created 1778 from Augusta and Botetourt Cas.), Rockingham Co. (created 1778). BEDFORD County, created 1753 from Albemarle and Lunenburg Cas. It was a parent county for Campbell Co. Paul's Parish, wrote his will which was probated September 19, During his lifetime he had purchased of one John Garland lands in Halifax County on Hyco River, which he subsequently sold to Dabney Miller. This land was later devised by Mrs. MARTHA WHITLOCK to her two surviving children. A law suit resulted, instituted in the Superior Court of Law and Chancery in Richmond in which the Court decreed that the tract of land be divided into four lots "first choice to be cast between Francis Timberlake, Sr. (now dec'd) and MARTHA WHITLOCK and John Allen Richardson, Executrix and Executor." DAVID WHITLOCK also possessed land in Hanover, Randolph County (now West Virginia) and Kentucky.
