1 r~ ~ Vestry Book of St. Paul's Parish - Hanover Co. Virginia September 24, 1708/09 Returns made to the Vestry of S1. Paul's Parish March 14, 1708/09 ITom the Surveyor of the 39 precints that the said Parish was divided into for the Processioning of Lands by an Order of the Said Parish Vestry held September /09 are here according to Law and an order of Said Vestry made on the said 14 of March Register'd Verbatim. The Lands of David Anderson, JAMES WHITLOCK, Eliaz'r Davis, the Widow Tapp, Margaret Ariss and John Burnley lying Adjacent to each other being made one precinct of which the said David Anderson and JAMES WHITLOCK were appointed Overseers, made this return on the Back of the Order viz. We the Subscribers have seen the within order Fully Executed, Peter Crawford in behalf of his mother Margaret Ariss and Thomas Anderson instead of Widow Tapp, he having purchased the Land. Subscrib'd David Anderson and JAMES WHITLOCK. The Lands of Thomas Lacy and JAMES WHITLOCK and Thos: Graham lying next to each other, being made one precinct, of which the said Thomas Lacy and JAMES WHITLOCK' were appointed Overseers, who made this return on the Back of the order, viz: the within Order comply'd with. Subscribed Thomas Lacy and JAMES WHITLOCK. 9 br ye The Lands of Emanuel Richardson, Nath'l Hodginson, Cap'1. Roger Thompson, Jno. Richardson, Paul Bunch, JAS: WHITLOCK, Widdow Clough, Thomas Graham, and Thos. Lacy being made one precinct, whereof the said Thos. Graham and Thomas Lacy were appointed Overseers, made this return 9 br ye In Obedience to the within Order, we the Subscribers have processioned the land belonging to us. Subscribed by all the parties, Roger Thompson for Mad'm Clough. X br ye The lands of John Shelton, Edward Bullock, Mr. Richardson, Jere: Dumas, John Tally, John Langsdon, Jas. Durham, William Talley, Jno. Anderson, James Tate, JAMES WHITLOCK, Thos. Collett, Frances Hester, Jno. Mackoy, Richard Bullock and Mr. Wharton, Whereof John Shelton and Edward Bullock were overseers and made this return Xbr ye Pursuant to the within Order, we the Subscribers did on the day afores' d in Company with Jere: Dumas, John Tally, John Langsdon, Jas. Durham, William Talley, Jno. Anderson, Robert Tate, JAMES WHITLOCK, Thos. Collett, Francis Hester, Jno. McKoy, Richard Bullock and Wm. 2 June ye 2d 1733 Mr. JAMES wmtlock was sworn a Vestry man for this parish and took the Oaths appointed by law, before Peter Garland Gent. He then signed the minutes with the Rev. Zach Brook and others. (I wonder why he is always referred to as MR. Other men are not.) November 8, 1736 John Holden Elected a Vestry man for this parish in place of JAS. wmtlock, deceasd. (Note: James Whitlock signed as a Vestry man at each meeting until the time of his death. ) 1739 Order'd into one precinct for processioning ye lands of Jeremiah Dumas, Thos. Prosser, James Wood, Col. Custis, Mr. Brook, Jas. Rice, Wm. Crossley, Thos. Lacey, Junr., JAMES wmtlock, Col. Thompson Olivers, Nath'l. Hodgeskeson, James Hunt, the Hughes's, James Allen, George Straughon, David Tyree, James Anthony, the Carr's Lands, and th.at James Allen & Jeremiah Dumas see the said processioning performd Order'd into one precinct for processioning ye lands of Jeremiah Dumas, Thos. Prosser, James Wood, Col. Custis's Quarter, Mr. Brook, James Rice, Wm. Crossley, Thos. Lacey, JAMES wmtlock, Col. Thompson Olivers, Nathaniel. November 19, 1759 In Obedience to an Order of Saint Pauls hereunto Annexed, we the Subscribers have seen the following Land processioned, viz John White now Barret Whites, Thomas East's Orphans, Archibal Hughes now Robert Smith's Thomas Wild, John Forsie's now Henry Timberlakes, John Ellis, Aaron Trueheart, Samuel Morris, Wiliam Hughes, John Richardson, James Allen, Turner Richardsn, Wm. 3 November 27, 1762 Ordered That the Several Precincts for processioning lands in this parish be laid of as they were in the year 1759, and the Persons appointed to See the Same processioned be according unto the Memorandum heretofore Annexed and let the parish lines be processioned as in the said Memorandum is mention'd and let the same be recorded in the Vestry Book. No BENJ., OLIVER & DAVID WHITLOCK November 30, 1763 Ordered into one precinct for processioning the lands of Samuel Meridith, George Bell, Elisha Merideth, Cap't. Sam'l Merideth, Thomas Bowles, Robert Lee, John Hogg, Will'm Hogg, Isaac Winston, Benjamin Oliver, and that Benjamin Oliver and DAVID WHITLOCK See the said processioning performed and return their proceedings according to Law. Pursuant to the above Order we caused the Bounds of the lands above Mentioned, and the land marks Renew'd Anthony Winston, Robt. Lee, now in possession of said Winston's Samuel Merideth, George Bell, Elisha Merideth, Thomas Bowles, John Hogg, Isaac Winston's them three done by Other Persons, Benjamin Oliver's Orphans ofcol'o Custis, Thomas Hayden, David Jones, Benjamin Morrice, DAVID WHITLOCK, Benjamin Tyree, Gravet Edwards which we Complyd with ye 31st day of March IsigJ DAVID WHITLOCK, BENJAMIN OLIVER. November 30, 1763 In Obedience to the within Order we the subscribers has seen the lines of all the land peaceably procession'd from the Road crossing Chickahomeny at the three Runs Bridge, down said swomp to Beaver dam Swomp which includes the lands of Samuel Morris, William Hughes, William Craighead, John Ellis's orphans, Aaron Trueheart, Thomas Wild, Robt. Smith, Robt. Lee, Barrot White, Anthony Winston, Gent. MATHEW WHITLOCK, Charles richardsn, John Richardson, Elizabeth Tyree, Philip Frazier, the subscribers examined a Line between Aaron Trueheart & William Hughes which we have returned to the Wardens according to Law. IsigJ James Allen, Turner Richardson 30th day of September 1767 Ordered that the several precincts for processioning Lands in this Parish be lay'd off as they were in the year 1759, and the persons appointed to see the same processioned be according unto the Memorandum heretofore Annex'd and that the sd. parish lines be processioned and let the same be recorded in the Vestry Book. No 17 - Benj'm Oliver & DAVID WHITLOCK September 30, 1767 Ordered Into one precinct for processioning the Lands of Samuel Merideth, George Bell, Anthony Winston, Thomas Bowles, Micajah Hogg, Benjamin Oliver, William Bailey, Colo'l Daniel Custis Orphans, Thomas Haden, DAVID WHITLOCK and Benjamin Oliver do see the sd. Processioning performd and returned their proceedings according to Law.
4 In Obedience to the within Orders, we have caus'd the Bounds of the within Orders to be processiond and find no objection. Isig/ DAVID WIllTLOCK, Benjamin Oliver Ordered That the Several Precincts for processioning lands in this Parish be laid off as they were in the year 1767 with such Alterations as is Necessary, and the Persons appointed to see the same processioned be according unto the Memorandum hereto Annexed and that the parish lines be processioned and that the same be returned and recorded in the Vestry Book. No. 10 MATTHEW WIllTLOCK and Benjamin Oliver November 12, 1771 Ordered into one Precinct for Processioning the lands of William Bailey, Daniel Custis Orphan, Jeremiah Jones, William Jones, James Burnley formerly David Jones, Widow Kemp, JAMES WIllTLOCK, DAVID WIllTLOCK, Benjamin Tyree, MATTHEW WIllTLOCK, Benjamin Oliver, Charles Richardson, dec'd. And that MATTHEW WIllTLOCK and Benjamin Oliver do see the said processioning Performed and return the proceedings according to Law. And it is also ordered [388] that if any of the several persons appointed to see the processioning find any Persons Land adjacent to the Lands named, and not mentioned in the orders for processioning that they do see the Lands so left out of the said orders processioned and return an Account of the same, with the other Lands mentioned in the said orders for processioning. ~1rfac, t/~ The within Lands are Peacable and Quietly Process'd Ben: Oliver May 7, Isl Matt'w Whitlock, November 7, 1775 Ordered That the Several Precincts for processioning lands in this Parish be laid off as they were in the year 1771 with such alterations as is Necessary, and the persons appointed to see the same processioned be according to the Memorandum hereto annexed and that the parish lines be processioned and that the same be returned and recorded in the Vestry Book. And that MATTHEW WHITLOCK & Benjamin Oliver do see the said processioning performed and return their proceedings according to the law. And it is also Ordered that if any of the several persons appointed to see the processioning find any persons Land adjacent to the Lands named, and not mentioned in the orders for processioning that they do see the Lands so left out of the said orders processioned and return an Account of the same, with the other Lands mentioned in the said orders for processioning. Jones & DAVID WHITLOCK do Procession Destrict No. 10 January 26, Ordered into one precinct for processioning of William Bailey, David Richardson, Jeremiah Jones, William Lemay dec'd, Benjamin Tyree, MATTHEW WHITLOCK, Benjamin Oliver, & Charles Richardson, dec'd, & Burnett Timberlake. And that Wm. Jones & DAVID WHITLOCK do see the said processioning perform'd and return their proceedings according to the law. And it is also ordered that if any of the several persons appointed to see the processioning find any Persons Land adjacent to the Lands named, and not mentioned in the orders for processioning that they do see the Lands so left out of the said orders processioned and return an Account of the same, with the other Lands mentioned in the said orders for processioning.
