3 THE BERGEN COUNTY, NJ CHAPTER OF THE LINKS, INCORPORATED The Bergen County, NJ Chapter of the Links, Incorporated is proud to once again provide you with information about our scholarship program, which is open to senior high school students who attend your church. We are pleased to offer two categories of scholarships that will allow for a greater number of students to have an opportunity to apply for funding towards their pursuit of a higher education. Though the guidelines and requirements are listed within the application, we did want to ensure that you are aware of the specific details of each scholarship: Scholarship A Scholarship A is open to students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. They also have to submit two letters of recommendation and complete one essay, among other criteria. Scholarship B Scholarship B is open to students who have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. They also have to submit three letters of recommendation and complete two essays, among other criteria. Additional Forms Please note that we are continuing to use three additional forms that help make applying for our scholarship more efficient and consistent. These documents include personal and academic recommendation forms and an official transcript form. Online Application Lastly, and most importantly, this year we are only accepting scholarship applications online. The application and all supporting documents are available on our website. The only document that should be forwarded via U.S. mail is the student s official transcript, though the transcript form can also be found online. Application Deadline The scholarship submission deadline is February 12, 2016 for the application and all supporting documents. 5 We regret to announce the passing of Mother Almeta Waddell on Monday, January 25, 2016, Mother Waddell joined our First Baptist family in 1924 at age 11. She remained a faithful member of FBC for 92 years. She was 103 at the time of her death. Mother Waddell s funeral was held her at FBC on Friday, January 29, Please keep the Waddell family in your prayers. There are many problems in the world that we can not solve, but hunger in our own community is not one of them! We can stamp out hunger in Bergen County if we all pitch in and do our part. 6 Please take time to nominate your choice for FBC Church Woman of the Year The Profile of the Church Woman of the Year She is a woman chosen by the membership as one who is fearful, yet fearless, and is strong in her commitment to God. She is a person of vision and is submissive to the will of GOD. She is sincere, patient and seeks not places of honor. She must be a true dedicated Christian Woman, sensitive and responsive to the needs of others. She must be a loyal and a faithful contributor to her church, not only sharing her finances, but herself, time and talents. She must also cultivate her spiritual life through attendance at New Life Academy, Bible study, Christian Education, Midweek Worship Service or serve as a member of the Missionary Society. She should be supportive of the activities of the church, thus carrying more than her corner of the sheet. Negativism should not be one of her traits. She should be able to see the good in everyone. She is the salt of the earth and should be Christ like in all of her dealings, that the Kingdom of GOD might come on earth as it is in heaven. The Christian Woman is ever mindful of 1 Corinthians 13. The past recipients of this award have all rated highly in the categories listed below. Please consider the listed characteristics as you make your nomination and write a few comments in each of the six categories about the woman who you would like to be chosen as our Church Woman of the Year.
