4 POINSETTIA LODGE No. 633 Twenty-Four Brothers recognized by each other as Master Masons in good standing assembled at the Office of Brother Louis C. Drapeau, on December 23, 1925, at 7:30 o'clock p.m. for the purpose of taking the necessary measures for the establishment of a Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons. The Brethren decided that the name of the new Lodge should be Poinsettia Lodge and named the Brothers that should be proposed in the petition for dispensation. A Committee of three was appointed to procure a proper room in which to hold the meetings of the Lodge. A Committee of three was appointed to secure subscriptions for such amounts as may be necessary to pay the fee for Dispensations and to defray any other immediate expenses. The Second Preliminary Meeting was held on January 4, 1926 at 7:30 o clock p.m. in the same place. The committee to secure a proper room reported that they had obtained one in the Dr. Lacey Clark Building at 630½ Main Street in the City of San Buenaventura at the same place where San Buenaventura Lodge No. 214 meets, which would satisfy the requirements of the Grand Lodge. The rent would be $15.00 per month and the Lodge would have the use of the regalia of San Buenaventura Lodge No The Lodge would meet on Thursday night. These arrangements were approved. It was reported that $500 in subscriptions had been collected. The Third Preliminary Meeting was held on February 18, 1926 at 6:30 o clock p.m. at the DeLeon Hotel. The Chairman reported that the District Inspector had issued a Certificate of the qualifications of the proposed Officers. The appropriate petitions, recommendations, certificates and fees were forwarded to Grand Lodge. The Forth Preliminary Meeting was held on March 4, 1926 at 6:00 o clock p.m. at the DeLeon Hotel. It was determined that the Stated Meeting would be held on the first Thursday of the Month at 8 p.m. The By-Laws of the Lodge were presented and approved. The first Meeting Under Dispensation was held on March 18, 1926 at 8 o clock p.m. at the Hall of Poinsettia Lodge U.D. All of the signers of the petition were present. Most Worshipful D. J. Reese, Past Grand Master, conducted the Intuition Ceremonies with the assistance of the District Inspector Worshipful P.S. Cummings. He then invested the Worshipful Master Louis C. Drapeau and the Officers of Poinsettia Lodge U.D. with the jewels of their office, after which the Lodge was opened in due and ancient form in the third degree of Freemasonry. The By-Laws were then presented for adoption. The time and day the Stated Meeting were to be holden would be the First Thursday in each month at eight o clock p.m.

5 THE FIRST STATED MEETING Poinsettia Lodge U.D. assembled for the First Stated Meeting at the Hall of Poinsettia Lodge on April 1, OUR FIRST DEGREE MEETING Poinsettia Lodge U.D. assembled for its First Special Meeting to confer its first Degree. One Candidate was introduced and initiated an Entered Apprentice Mason with Worshipful Master Drapeau in the East on May 20, WE RAISE OUR FIRST MASTER MASON Poinsettia Lodge U.D. assembled to confer its first Master Mason Degree. One Candidate after being found proficient in the Lecture of the Fellowcraft Degree was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on July 29, THE LODGE IS CHARTERED At the annual convocation of the California Grand Lodge in October 1926, a Charter was granted to the new lodge. The first meeting under charter was held October 26, 1926 at eight o clock p.m. at the Masonic Temple in Santa Barbara. The lodge was duly constituted and its officers installed by Most Worshipful George L. Jones, Grand Master in a dual Constitution of Poinsettia and La Cumber Lodges. THE FIRST ELECTION OF OFFICERS The first election of officers was held at the Stated Meeting of December 2, 1926, resulting in the election of Worshipful Louis C. Drapeau, Master; Conley L. LaForce, Senior Warden; and Arthur T. Mead, Junior Warden. The first installation was held December 26, LOUIS C. DRAPEAU Louis C. Drapeau was installed Master by Most Worshipful David Reese Past Grand Master, for the second time at a combined Installation with San Buenaventura Lodge No. 214 on January 11, WE CELEBRATE OUR FIRST ANNIVERSARY The Brethren celebrated the First Anniversary of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 at the Athene Club House on March 17, 1927 with a program and dance.

6 WE CHANGE THE STATED MEETING TIME An amendment to the By-Laws to change the time of the Stated Meeting from 8:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. was presented and adopted by the Lodge at the May Stated Meeting. WE CELEBRATE THE 150 TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FLAG OF OUR COUNTRY A special meeting of the Lodge was held to celebrate the 150 th Anniversary of the Flag of the United States of America on June 26,1927. CONLEY L. LAFORCE Conley L. LaForce was installed December 29, 1927, as Master. SANTA BARBARA LODGE JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE More than 30 Brothers from Santa Barbara Lodge No. 192 joined with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on March 29 th, SOUTHLAND LODGE JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE We extended an invitation to Southland Lodge No. 618 of Hollywood California to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on May 31 st, A delicious dinner was served, followed by the Degree. WE HOLD MOCK MASONIC TRIAL On the evening of August 16 th, 1928, the Brethren assembled to observe and exemplification of a Masonic Trial. Fictitious Charges were brought and a verdict was returned. A large number of Brothers attended and greatly enjoyed the program while learning about the process. ARTHUR T. MEAD Arthur T. Mead was installed December 27, 1928, as Master. CHARTER MEMBERS NIGHT 16 of the 26 Charter Members assembled on the evening of May 16, 1929 where they assumed the Officers Stations to confer the 3 rd Degree of Masonry under the leadership of Worshipful Louis C. Drapeau, our first Worshipful Master, in the East.

7 WE JOIN IN THE CORNERSTONE LAYING OF THE NEW MASONIC TEMPLE San Buenaventura Lodge No. 214 and Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 joined in the Cornerstone Laying Ceremonies on June 7, The cornerstone was laid by Grand Master Gustav A. Hutaff and the other members of Grand Lodge. THE LODGE PURCHASES STOCK IN THE NEW MASONIC TEMPLE The Lodge voted to purchase stock in the new Masonic Temple at the August Stated Meeting. THE LODGE ESTABLISHES A BOARD OF TRUSTEES The Master, Senior and Junior Wardens were appointed as Trustees of the Lodge to act on behalf of the Lodge in financial matters at the October Stated Meeting. WE HOLD OUR FIRST MEETING IN THE NEW MASONIC TEMPLE The Stated Meeting on January2, 1930 was held in the new Masonic Temple. Brother Arthur Hall was the first Candidate to be Raised in the New Masonic Temple. EARL W. EDSON Earl W. Edson was installed January 9, 1930, as Master at our first Installation in the New Masonic Temple. AMERICA LODGE JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE We extended an invitation to America Lodge No. 475 of Los Angles California to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on March 13, We were pleased to have over 30 visiting Brethren that evening. A delicious dinner was served, followed by the Degree. SHELL OIL COMPANY NIGHT Since the Candidate for the evening of January 22, 1931 was employed by the Shell Oil Company, the regular officers were replaced by Brothers who were also employees of the Shell Oil Company. The pro-tem Officers then proceeded to Raise him to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. SHELL OIL COMPANY NIGHT AGAIN On the night of March 26,1931, the Candidate for the evening being employed by the Shell Oil Company, the regular officers were replaced by Brothers who were also

8 employees of the Shell Oil Company. The pro-tem Officers then proceeded to Raise him to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. THE GRAND MASTER VISITS THE LODGE On the night of April 16,1931, the Most Worshipful Grand Master John Stewart Ross visited Poinsettia Lodge No Prior to the opening of the Lodge, a dinner was served to some 160 Masons. After the Lodge was opened, Most Worshipful Grand Master John Stewart Ross addressed the 300 Brothers present. WE RAISE OUR DUES FOR THE FIRST TIME The Dues for the members of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 were raised from $12 per year to $20 per year at the May Stated Meeting in order to meet the increased expenses of the Lodge. ROYCE A. MADDOX Royce A. Maddox was installed December 31, 1931, as Master. THE LODGE PUTS ON AN ORIGIONAL MASONIC PLAY On the evening of January 14,1932, the Lodge produced an original Play written by Brother Jarrett Beckett and dedicated to Worshipful Master Royce A. Maddox. The event was attended by some 200 Masons. THE LODGE SENDS CHARLES LINDBERG A LETTER OF CONDOLENCE We send a letter of condolence to Col. Charles Lindberg and his wife expressing to them our sincere sympathy during their sad bereavement. A moment of silence was observed during the meeting of May 12, WE HAVE OUR FIRST PAST MASTERS NIGHT On the evening of September 22,1932, we held our first Past Masters Night. Several of our Past Masters assumed the various stations and conferred the Third Degree of Masonry. FRED H. WHITCHURCH Fred H. Whitchurch was installed December 22, 1932, as Master.

9 WE WRITE A LETTER TO PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT The Lodge wrote a letter to President Franklin D. Roosevelt expressing to him the Lodge s hearty co-operation and individual support of his National Recovery Program. VERNON E. PATTERSON Vernon E. Patterson was installed December 28, 1933, as Master. WE LOWER OUR DUES AND FEES The Dues for the members of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 were lowered from $20 per year to $12 per year at the January Stated Meeting. In addition, the Fees for the Degrees were also lowered to be more compatible with the current economic situation. CLARENCE F. CARLISE Clarence F. Carlise was installed December 27, 1934, as Master. JOHN VAN METER John Van Meter was installed December 19, 1935, as Master. WE HOST A FRENCH DEGREE The Officers from Vallee de France Lodge No. 329 joined with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 and visitors to confer the First Degree, in French, on one of our Candidates on February 29 th, Prior to the Degree as wonderful dinner was served. There were assembled about 375 Masons in the Lodge room to witness the ceremony which was enjoyed all present. THE HIGHWAY PATROL DEGREE TEAM JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE We extended an invitation to the Highway Patrol Degree Team of Los Angles California to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on April 16, We were pleased to have 28 visiting Brethren that evening. A dinner was served at the Mecca Café followed by the Degree. WE TRAVEL TO THE CHILDREN S MASONIC HOME AT COVINA On Sunday May 24, 1936, several of the Brethren and friends traveled to the Children s Masonic Home at Covina.

10 THE ENGLISH MASONIC RITUAL SOCIETY EXEMPLIFY A FIRST DEGREE We extended an invitation to the English Masonic Ritual Society to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to exemplify the Emulation Ritual of the First Degree on one of their Candidates. Prior to the Degree as wonderful dinner was served. There were assembled about 300 Masons in the Lodge room to witness the ceremony which was enjoyed all present. THE TRAFFIC DEGREE TEAM OF THE POLICE SQUARE CLUB OF LOS ANGLES JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE We extended an invitation to the Traffic Degree Team of the Police Square Club of Los Angles California to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on August 15, We were pleased to have 25 visiting Brethren that evening. ALF C. AX Alf C. Ax was installed December 31, 1936, as Master. OUR FIRST ANNUAL ROLL CALL At the February Stated Meeting, we held our First Annual Roll Call. THE 77 TH STREET DIVISION DEGREE TEAM OF THE POLICE SQUARE CLUB OF LOS ANGLES JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE We extended an invitation to the 77th Street Division Degree Team of the Police Square Club of Los Angles California to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on August 28, Prior to the Degree a wonderful dinner was served. We were pleased to have 25 visiting Brethren that evening. ASSOCIATED OIL COMPANY NIGHT Since the Candidate for the evening of September 16, 1937 was employed by the Associated Oil Company, the regular officers were replaced by Brothers who were also

11 employees of the Associated Oil Company. The pro-tem Officers then proceeded to Raise him to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. Prior to the Degree a wonderful dinner was served by the Ladies of the 633 Club. There were assembled about 200 Masons in the Lodge room to witness the ceremony. THE SCOTTISH DEGREE TEAM JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE We extended an invitation to the Scottish Degree Team Santa Barbara California to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on September 30, The Scottish Degree, consisting of 20 Members, marched into the Lodge Room accompanied by the sound of Bag Pipes. They then proceeded to confer the Third Degree of Masonry. JOHN M. DEVRIES John M. DeVries was installed December 16, 1937, as Master. ASSOCIATED OIL COMPANY NIGHT AGAIN Since the Candidate for the evening of June 30, 1938 was employed by the Associated Oil Company, the regular officers were replaced by Brothers who were also employees of the Associated Oil Company. The pro-tem Officers then proceeded to Raise him to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. THE 77 TH STREET DIVISION DEGREE TEAM OF THE POLICE SQUARE CLUB OF LOS ANGLES JOINS US AGAIN FOR A 3 rd DEGREE We extended an invitation to the 77th Street Division Degree Team of the Police Square Club of Los Angles California to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on August 20, Prior to the Degree a wonderful dinner was served to about 100 Masons. We were pleased to have 25 visiting Brethren from the Club that evening. H. RICHARD HOLST H. Richard Holst was installed December 31, 1938, as Master. THE EDISON MASONIC CLUB JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE Since the Candidate for the evening of February 11, 1939 was employed by the Edison Company, the regular officers were replaced by Brothers who were also employees of the Edison Company. The pro-tem Officers then proceeded to Raise him to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. Prior to the Degree a dinner was in the Dining Hall.

12 WE HAVE A FATHER AND SON DINNER On the evening of April 18, 1939, the Lodge hosted a Father and Son Dinner. Following the Dinner, which was attended by some 140 Fathers and Sons, everyone enjoyed the entertainment of the evening. THE SHELL OIL COMPANY DEGREE TEAM JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE Since the Candidate for the evening of June 22, 1939 was employed by the Shell Oil Company, the regular officers were replaced by Brothers who were also employees of the Shell Oil Company. The pro-tem Officers then proceeded to Raise him to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. ALLEN J. MORRISON Allen J. Morrison was installed December 21, 1939, as Master. WE BECOME JOINT SHAREHOLDERS IN THE MASONIC TEMPLE In February, the stock being held in Trust was equally split between San Buenaventura Lodge No. 214 and Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 along with equal voting rights in the San Buenaventura Masonic Center Association. THE SCOTTISH DEGREE TEAM JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE We extended an invitation to the Scottish Degree Team Santa Barbara California to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on June 22, The Scottish Degree Team, along with 12 Scottish Brothers from Los Angles, marched into the Lodge Room preceded by the sound of 3 Bag Pipers. They then proceeded to confer the Third Degree of Masonry. Prior to the Degree the Ladies of the 633 Club served dinner. The proceeds from the dinner amounting to $73 were remitted to the Masonic Homes Endowment Fund. ARTHUR R. RICE Arthur R. Rice was installed December 21, 1940, as Master. THE TIDEWATER MASONIC CLUB JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE We extended an invitation to the Tidewater Masonic Club of Los Angles California to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on January 16, 1941.

13 GRAND MASTER LLOYD E. WILSON VISITS US We received the Most Worshipful Grand Master Lloyd E. Wilson for his Official Visit to the 71 st Masonic District on March 14, Prior to the meeting a dinner was served in the Dining Hall. WE VISIT AMERICA LODGE NO. 475 Some 50 plus members traveled by Chartered Greyhound Bus to visit America Lodge No. 475 to witness a Third Degree and have fraternal communication on May 12, THE TIDEWATER MASONIC CLUB AGAIN JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE We extended an invitation to the Tidewater Masonic Club of Los Angles, California to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates, who was also an Employee Tidewater Associated Oil company, to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on July 11, AMERICA LODGE NO. 475 JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE We extended an invitation to the America Lodge No. 475 to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on October 9, Prior to the meeting a dinner was served in the Dining Hall. We were pleased to have 25 visiting Brethren from America Lodge No. 475 that evening. EDWIN L. GARDNER II Edwin L. Gardner II was installed December 20, 1941, as Master. WE PURCHASE U.S. DEFENSE BONDS effort. The Lodge purchased $3000 worth of U.S. Defense Bonds to support the War THE DEMOLAY PRESENT THE DEMOLAY DEGREE On the evening of April 23, 1942, 25 Young Men of the Ventura DeMolay Chapter conferred the DeMolay Degree on 2 of their Candidates. WE VISIT AMERICA LODGE NO. 475 Some 30 members of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 traveled to America Lodge No. 475 to confer a Third Degree on one of their candidates on May 25, Prior to the meeting a fine dinner was served.

14 WAYNE A. SIMPSON Wayne A. Simpson was installed December 19, 1942, as Master. WE PURCHASE MORE U.S. DEFENSE BONDS The Lodge purchased an additional $3000 worth of U.S. Defense Bonds to support the War effort. WE LOSE OUR WORSHIPFUL MASTER TO THE US NAVY Worshipful Master Wayne A. Simpson announced at the April Stated Meeting that it would be his last meeting. He had been accepted by the US Navy to be commissioned as a Lieutenant Junior Grade. Senior Warden Edgar L. Jasper filled in as temporary Master for the remainder of the year. GRAND MASTER LESLIE E. WOOD VISITS US We received the Most Worshipful Grand Master Leslie E. Wood for his Official Visit to the 71 st Masonic District on June 30, Prior to the meeting a dinner was served in the Dining Hall. There were some 240 Masons in attendance. ASSOCIATED OIL COMPANY NIGHT AGAIN Since the Candidate for the evening of September 23, 1943 was employed by the Associated Oil Company, the regular officers were replaced by Brothers who were also employees of the Associated Oil Company. The pro-tem Officers then proceeded to Raise him to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. EDGAR L. JASPER Edgar L. Jasper was installed December 30, 1943, as Master. WE RAISE OUR FEES The Fees for the Degrees of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 were raised from $50 to $75 at the June Stated Meeting. THE ACACIA CLUB JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE We extended an invitation to the Acacia Club of Port Hueneme, California to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on June 15, 1944.

15 WE PURCHASE MORE U.S. DEFENSE BONDS The Lodge purchased an additional $3000 worth of U.S. Defense Bonds to support the War effort. OREY L. RILEY Orey L. Riley was installed December 30, 1944, as Master. THE EDISON MASONIC CLUB JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE Since the Candidate for the evening of February 24, 1945 was employed by the Edison Company, the regular officers were replaced by Brothers who were also employees of the Edison Company. The pro-tem Officers then proceeded to Raise him to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. Prior to the Degree a dinner was served in the Dining Hall. There were present about 125 Masons. THE HIGHWAY PATROL DEGREE TEAM JOINS US FOR A 3 rd DEGREE We extended an invitation to the Highway Patrol Degree Team of Los Angles California to join with the Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 to raise one of our Candidates, who was also an Officer of the California Highway Patrol to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on March 22, Prior to the Degree a dinner was served in the Dining Hall. 16 A NEW GENERATION BEGINS Mr. David R. Drapeau, son of our first Worshipful Master Louis C. Drapeau, was introduced and initiated an Entered Apprentice Mason on the evening of March 6, WE INVEST ON SHARES OF THE SAN BUENAVENTURA MASONIC CENTER At the July Stated Meeting the Lodge voted to purchase 50 shares of the Capital Stock of the San Buenaventura Masonic Center, to help reduce the indebtedness of the Center. A SPECIAL PAST MASTER S NIGHT On the evening of September 19, 1946, Brother David R. Drapeau, son of our first Worshipful Master Louis C. Drapeau, was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason by a group of our Past Masters. Worshipful Louis C. Drapeau was able to Raise his son David for the second time. THE LODGE PURCHASES MORE STOCK IN THE MASONIC TEMPLE The Bank of America offered to sell 37 shares of Common Stock of the San Buenaventura Masonic Temple to both Lodges jointly for the sum of $1000. Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 voted to purchase the stock along with San Buenaventura Lodge No. 214 at the July Stated Meeting. WE VISIT AMERICA LODGE NO. 475 A goodly number of Brethren of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 traveled to America Lodge No. 475 to confer a Third Degree on one of their candidates on September 24, Prior to the meeting a fine Armenian dinner was enjoyed by all.
