1 From the Pastor s Desk January 2017 Newsletter First of God... Striving to Make Jesus Known, Nurture Believers, and Reach the Community for Christ! January 2017 Christmas Day has now passed but let us not forget the words spoken to Mary by the angel Gabriel, For all things are possible with God Luke 1:37. The message of Christmas and the message of the Cross are the same; all things are possible through Jesus Christ who gives us new life, life abundant and life eternal. The Apostle Paul confirms this in his often quoted verse, I can do all this through him who gives me strength Philippians 4:13. As we now say goodbye to 2016 and hello to 2017, let us welcome the endless possibilities that are awaiting us. The two verses that were quoted above remind us that our source of strength is Jesus Christ. It is through our relationship with him that all things are possible. It is through our relationship with him that we have hope. The hope that I speak of is a confident expectation that God is willing and able to fulfill the promises he has made to those who trust him., with a new year upon us, I would like to ask each of you to remember this little line, Behind me is infinite power, before me is endless possibility, and around me is endless opportunity. Be Salt and Light, Pastor Don Lynette, Lyndon and I would like to thank you, our church family, for your many acts of kindness and generosity throughout the year, especially during this Christmas season. We consider it a privilege to pastor such a great congregation. NEW YEAR S LOCK-IN DATE DECEMBER 31 TO JANUARY 1 PLACE HERE AT THE CHURCH TIME 9:00 PM TO 9:00 AM The Youth Group will have a New Year s Eve Lock-In. It will be a night of fun, fellowship, and worship. The cost is $10 and bring a sleeping bag, pillow, PJs, and clothes for church on Sunday. CHILDREN S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM Our Children s Christmas Program, All About That Baby, has been rescheduled for Sunday, January 8. Here is a list of all scheduled practices. If your children are involved, please make sure they attend these practices. Sunday, January 1 During Children s Wednesday, January 4 6:30 to 7:30 pm Saturday, January 7 9:00 to 11:00 am THE OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED MONDAY, JANUARY 2 WINTER JAM 2017 DATE SATURDAY, JANUARY 28 PLACE SCOTTRADE CENTER, ST. LOUIS TIME DOORS OPEN 5:00 PM MAIN SHOW 6:00 PM Do you like good music? Really good music? Really good Christian music? Then you won't want to miss this year's Winter Jam. Winter Jam features several different Christian artists with different styles of music and will appeal to all age groups. This year s headline artist is David Crowder. The bus leaves at 2 pm and the cost is only $10. You can't beat that deal. A sign-up sheet is located at the Welcome Center. ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING OUR ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING WILL BE HELD SUNDAY, JANUARY 22. AT THIS VERY IMPORTANT MEETING, WE WILL VOTE ON A NEW BUDGET, DISCUSS OUR MINISTRIES, AND VOTE ON NEW BOARD, COUNCIL, AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND. ANNUAL REPORT BOOKLETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE CHURCH ENTRANCES ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 15. CHAIRMEN AND CHAIRWOMEN OF COMMITTEES AND BOARDS If you are a chairman or chairwoman of a committee, board, or ministry, please start thinking about your annual reports for our Annual Meeting on January 22. These are due to the office by Monday, January 9, so that they can be included in the Annual Report Booklets. Christ s Birthday Offering We collected over $1,000 for our Christ s Birthday Offering last Sunday. Thank you for your generosity!! There is still time to give if you were not able to do so. 4 Notes and News 2017 OFFERING ENVELOPES Your 2017 Offering Envelopes are available near the Information Booth. Using offering envelopes allows the church to send you your giving information which is used for your taxes. Your 2016 statement will be mailed by the end of the month. If you do not currently have envelopes and would like some, please see Mary in the office. Those that use E- Giving will not receive any unless they ask for some. Your envelope number may have changed from last year. Thanks for your faithfulness to the Lord and to the church though your tithing. A SPECIAL THANK YOU I would like to thank everyone who left gifts on my desk and the person who so thoughtfully sent the anonymous gift card that I received in the mail. I truly appreciate your kind gifts and it is truly rewarding to be appreciated. Notes and News (con.) WINTER WEATHER SERVICE CANCELLATION POLICY If St. James Schools are dismissed on Wednesdays, there will be no services that evening. If the bad weather should come later in the day on Wednesdays or on the weekends, the Board of Trustees will make the decision concerning all scheduled services.
