A time of transition. For some, this means back to school. For others, it is time to wrap up the summer schedule and begin a more aggressive one that leads us into the colder months. Baseball season wraps up Football season begins. For us in the Church it is a reminder that time marches on. Just like the seasons, every year has it s cycle. This issue takes us from the 18th to the 26th week of Ordinary. The time in which life is lived, where transitions are taken in stride and where we, hopefully, find our relationship with our Lord deepening. Also, this issue brings us week 2 of the 5-Week Homily Series God & Me. This series is based on Chapter 6 of the Gospel of John, and the weekly themes can be found in a more specific article of this newsletter. If you missed the first one on July 26, you can go to the website and click on the Sermon Series tab. Finally, on September 13, the Solemnity of Brotherly Love will be celebrated. The General Church is asking each parish to perform a community service project centered around this Solemnity. Keep checking the bulletin, website and Facebook page for updates on this upcoming event. Together we can make the world a better place, and hopefully grow our love of each other and of our neighbors. By doing that, we can help to build the Kingdom of God on Earth! In Christ, Fr. 4 V o l u m e 5, I s s u e 4 P a g e 4 Clean Sweep Continues We are continuing the Clean Sweep Tuesdays through August and the 1st of September as the weather permits us. The weather has been a problem throughout the last two months, but hopefully we can get back on track. This is a program that can get you outdoors and together with other parishioners. Anyone can participate, even if it is pulling weeds or picking up trash and debris that comes in from the road. This annual program saves the parish money on maintenance and cleaning costs, so make plans now to help out and give some time to the beautification of the parish. YMS of R Golf Outing The National YMS of R is hosting the first Annual Golf Outing on August 22, 2015 at Skyland Golf Course in Hinkley, OH. This is a great way to get out and have fun with other golfers from across the PNCC, and is only 2 1/2 hours away from Our Savior. Individuals are only $85.00, and includes lunch and a banquet, and a foursome is only $ Sponsorships are also available. The Polish National Union (Spojnia) has launched a new Social Membership. If you have wanted to become a member of the PNU, but don t want to buy life insurance, this is just for you. For only $30.00/year, you can become a full member of Spojnia. Please continue to support our parish Landscape Fund by bringing in the returnables from your summer outings, parties, etc. All of us are drinking more fluids in this extreme heat spell we are having. Thanks to all of the parishioners and friends who have helped us in this effort. Your true hearts for Our Savior Parish are so appreciated! By Pat Mack MONTHLY DINNERS By: Agnes Cramer September starts the beginning of our monthly dinners. Since May was such a huge success, we have decided to kick off this season with our famous City Chicken Dinner. Below you will find the menu for September: Kroger Rewards We are still encouraging everyone to sign up for Kroger Rewards on their Kroger Plus Card. Let s face it, we all go shopping, so why not help the parish as you shop? There is no extra cost involved to you, and it helps the parish with extra funds. If you need to renew, just go to: click sign in, enter your and password, click enroll now, put in the number or type Our Savior, check the correct group and click enroll. If it is your first time enrolling though, you will have to register your Kroger card. To do that just go to and follow the instructions. Our subcommittee has been diligently working on planning a wonderful event for our Centennial Celebration. The Anniversary Mass will be at 1:00 PM on April 9, 2016 in the Church. Since we are anticipating a large crowd, the banquet will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Romanian Orthodox Church Hall afterwards, just two doors down from Our Savior. The food will be provided by Szegedi s Catering. The lodging for out of town guests will be at the Country Inn on Michigan Ave. in Dearborn. More details will be provided as the time for the celebration gets closer. Make your plans now to celebrate this historic occasion for Our Savior! God & Me: A 5-Week Homily Series July 26 was the beginning of a 5-week homily series at Our Savior entitled God & Me, based on chapter 6 of the Gospel according to St. John. While the first one is already in the books, it can be accessed on the website on the Sermon Series page. The next 4 topics are: August 2 Who Am I? August 9 Love More Than a Feeling August 16 God s Justice=Perfect Love August 23 Living as a Person of God This is something new for us here at Our Savior, and hopefully it will be informative and spiritually uplifting. We hope that the Spirit of Our Savior is a beneficial publication for you, and that you find it helpful in keeping up with the events in and around our Parish. All suggestions - comments must be signed by the writer/ submitter. Parish Hall Now Available for Rent The Our Savior Parish Hall is now available for Rent. After much work by the Hall Rental subcommittee of the Our Savior Parish Committee, rates and a contract have been finalized, as well as the naming of a Hall Manager, Eugene Krysztof. The Hall is available for meetings, bridal and baby showers, wedding receptions, parties and other events. There is even a discount for parishioners. 9 Volume u m e 5-1 Issue I s4 s u e 7 P a g Page e 9 9 The Cleric s Corner With Cleric & Mrs. Richard Kasprzak Summertime. It sure is nice to not have a class. It is nice for us as students, but we do feel sorry for our instructors. They are preparing for our next series of classes, which takes hours of preparation for each hour of instruction. This on top of the work they have in doing their regular jobs in the parishes. We do appreciate the work they put into the training that we a re given. Despite all the practicum that I have with Fr. John at Mass, still errors occur with my assistance, and it can be very difficult to keep a straight face. We shall be going to Chicago August 14-15, as we have been deemed ready for the next step on the journey towards the goal of Deaconate rank in the clerical state. Looking back, it is in a way amazing what is transpiring. When I was 12, I had the idea of becoming a priest, and after graduation from eighth grade, I attended Orchard Lake High School, living away from home and trying to visualize myself as a priest. That lasted for one year, and I gave up the idea of priesthood for myself. I attended St. Andrew High School, and graduated in 1966 at the age of 16. After spending two years in various jobs, I joined the U.S. Army, went to basic training at Ft. Knox Kentucky, advanced training at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, and went to Germany for almost three years as my duty post. For many years, I avoided church. Even after marriage, I did not attend with my wife, using a myriad of excuses. It took until I happened to wander into Our Savior one Christmas Eve, that the idea of attending flashed by my thoughts. It took another year, and several visits, before I started attending. More in the future. It sure is nice to have someone here (Elizabeth) who can check what I ve written, and correct any errors.

10 Page 10 The Spirit of Our Savior Solemnity of Brotherly Love September 13, 2015 in the PNCC is the Solemnity of Brotherly Love. The Future Directions Subcommittee of the Supreme Council, as originated by the XXIV General Synod last year in Erie, PA, has designated this Solemnity as one that we as a Church are focusing on for To this end, each of the Diocesan Bishops are producing videos leading up to this event, and on September 9 at 7:00 PM, the Prime Bishop will be holding a webinar open to all members of the PNCC. The videos can be found here: Information on the Webinar can be found here: Furthermore, we as a parish will begin planning to make this Solemnity extra special. Keep watching the bulletin, website and Facebook page for updates! Parish Picnic/ Hot Dog Roast Please mark your calendars! We will again have our annual Parish Pot Luck and Hot Dog Roast on Sunday, September 20, Lunch will be served shortly after the Sunday Mass, at approximately 12:00 noon. Join us in the beautiful grass area behind the church where tables and chairs will be set up picnic style. The Parish will be providing Hot Dogs, with all the trimmings, Kapusta (Sauerkraut), Noodle Salad, and Beverages. For additional contributions, we will be placing a sign-up sheet on the hall bulletin board. It is recommended that those bringing a dish review the list so we have an ample variety of dishes to add to our existing menu. Remember that this is a community event. We hope that anyone who has assisted us during the year, in any fashion, will attend. All volunteers, parishioners, their families and friends are welcome. Can t wait to see everyone there!
