Mr. Richard Kasprzak I see that we are back in the green, meaning ordinary time is back. Funny name, even though no time is truly ordinary. Just comes from the Latin word ordinalis, which means numbered. Last week was a Solemnity, so for us, this is first week in ordinary time. Let s seize the opportunity. The best kept secret in the United States. Truly an amazing fact, and we don t even know what it is. Of course it being a secret, we would not be aware that it even exists. In my travels to the different states, and to the churches that I ve visited, I ve heard these words more than once from different people.. Keeping a secret can be one of the hardest things to do, but here and now, it seems impossible to let the secret out. There are many ways to let people in on a secret, but in this instance, it seems that no one, or at least very few people, have decided to let this secret out into general knowledge. And the most terrible thing about the secret is the fact that by letting it out, and truly propagating it, the good it would do - very probably - would be appreciated by many. People in all walks of life, of all genders, most ages, and positions would, most probably, embrace it. I myself have never run across a person who, once he has become familiar with this secret, has criticized the good that it does for those who embrace it with an open mind and a willingness to live within its bounds. Funny isn t it, that those of us who have been in on this secret, do not, for some reason, try to propagate it out into the world. The appreciations that I ve heard about it have come, almost totally, from people outside the circle of knowers, and learn about it by happenstance. As we enter the coldest, snowiest part of winter, let us keep our eyes on Our Savior. This year, following ancient tradition, we are leaving the Nativity Scene up until the Solemnity of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2. Our Savior Recipe Section This week s recipe is by Laura Pearce, friend of the Parish. 2 tbsp olive oil 1 clove garlic, minced 2/3 c bread crumbs 1/2 c Parmesan cheese 1 tsp basil 1 tsp oregano pepper to taste 4 chicken breasts Garlic Parmesan Baked Chicken Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and lightly grease a baking dish. 2. Combine olive oil and garlic on a plate. On a separate plate, combine breadcrumbs, cheese, basil, oregano, and pepper. 3. Dip chicken breasts in olive oil mixture, transfer to the other plate and coat with breadcrumb mixture.
