A reading from the Second Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians. 2 Cor 5:14-17 Brothers and sisters: The love of Christ impels us, once we have come to the conviction that one died for all; therefore, all have died. He indeed died for all, so that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. St. John the Baptist June 24 (translated to June 25) John the Baptist was a contemporary of Christ who was known for evangelization and his baptizing of Jesus Christ. John the Baptist was born through the intercession of God to Zachariah and Elizabeth, who was otherwise too old to bear children. According to scriptures, the Angel Gabriel visited Elizabeth and Zachariah to tell them they would have a son and that they should name him John. Zachariah was skeptical and for this he was rendered mute until the time his son was born and named John, in fulfillment of God's will. When Elizabeth was pregnant with John, she was visited by Mary, and John leapt in her womb. This revealed to Elizabeth that the child Mary carried was to be the Son of God. John began public ministry around 30 AD, and was known for attracting large crowds across the province of Judaea and around the Jordan River. When Jesus came to him to be baptized, John recognized him and said, "It is I who need baptism from you." Jesus told John to baptize Him anyway, which he did, whereupon the heavens opened, and the Spirit of God was seen like a dove. The voice of God spoke, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." John instructed his followers to turn to Christ, calling Him the "Lamb of God" and these people were among the first Christians. Following his baptism of Christ, John's popularity grew so much that he alarmed King Herod. Herod ordered him arrested and imprisoned. John spoke with Herod on several occasions and condemned his marriage to his halfbrother's wife. This condemnation would be his downfall as King Herod promised to grant a wish to his daughter. In revenge for John the Baptist's condemnation of her mother's scandalous marriage to Herod, she asked for John's head. King Herod reluctantly obliged. John the Baptist died sometime between 33 and 36 AD. John the Baptist's feast day is June 24, and the anniversary of his death is August 29 and is sometimes celebrated with a second feast. John the Baptist is the patron saint of Jordan, Puerto Rico, French Canada and many other places. ~From June 24, June 24,

John Our Savior Recipe Section This week s recipe is from Mrs. Nan Cramer: Pulled Pork Fajitas 1 1/2 lb. Pork Roast 8 oz. of your favorite BBQ Sauce (K.C. Masterpiece recommended) 1 Medium Onion (chopped) 3 Tbsp. Butter 1 pkg. Shredded Mild Cheddar Cheese 1/2 Head Shredded Iceberg Lettuce 8 Flour Tortillas Sour Cream (to taste) Medium Salsa (to taste) Directions: Cook roast in crock pot on high for 3 hours or until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees. Pull apart. Mix in BBQ sauce. Melt butter in skillet and add chopped onion. Cook until caramelized. Warm tortillas on griddle or in microwave. Pile Pork, Cheese, Onion, Lettuce, Sour Cream and Salsa in the middle of the Tortilla. Fold in edges and roll burrito-style. Makes 8 servings. June 24, June 24,

A neat property is an attractive property and can help invite new people to our parish. Second Collection The Second Collection today will once again be for the Clergy Pension Fund. Please be generous in your support for this fund. With more and more priests reaching retirement age in our Church, it is imperative that we support this fund so it will not fall away. Honor a Father on Father s Day For only $25/ name you can name a father, father figure, or priest who positively touched your life. It will be printed in the upcoming God s Field. Forms are available om the Communion Rail by the hallway entrance. You can still submit names, which will then be printed in a future God s Field. Choir Concert On June 30, 2018, the United Choirs of the Western Diocese will be presenting a concert entitled All For Jesus. It will take place at All Saints PNCC, Mile Rd., Sterling Heights, MI at 6:30 PM. There will be a reception and auction to follow. Tickets are $10.00 each, and will not be sold at the door.
