During this past later Winter/early Spring, Jennifer Sullivan was on a detailed assignment in Washington, D.C. supporting the congressionally authorized Section 809 Panel. For a job well done, her Director, Lieutenant General Sam Greaves sent the following message to the workforce at the Missile Defense Agency: To The Men and Women of the Missile Defense Agency: Please join me in congratulating Ms. Jennifer Sullivan, MDA/TH/DAA, for her superb work in supporting the congressionally authorized Section 809 Panel charged with making recommendations that will shape DoD's acquisition system into one that is bold, simple, and In her time with the Panel, Jennifer contributed to the research effort by authoring critical sections of the forthcoming Panel reports related to major defense acquisition programs. Her leadership and acquisition acumen provided advice and direction to the working group s subject matter experts from DoD, other federal organizations, and industry. More specifically, Jennifer s important perspectives on the Missile Defense Agency s approach to acquisition informed the Panel s recommendations for over two dozen requirements. Jennifer's contributions will receive significant attention Easter from the highest Program levels at of government and industry. 14 In Loving Memory Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Psalm 116:15 Death has invaded the ranks of our church family, again. In particular, our Mother s Auxiliary: On Oct 7, 2017, Mother Reacer Jefferson Brandford passed from this life and went home to be with our Lord. At the time of her death, Mother Brandford held the longest membership at Madkins Chapel. Madkins Chapel had a wonderful Mother of the Church in Mother Brandford. She had a very sweet and giving spirit and was a gracious servant of the Lord. We thank God for the life of Mother Brandford and the service she rendered at Madkins Chapel. Death stopped by again on March 10, 2018, our Lord called home Mother Nora Blackburn. At her Homegoing Celebration, Pastor Scruggs eulogized her in the sermon entitled, The Waiting is Over taken from the scriptures of Psalm 40:1 and Micah 7:7. Pastor Scruggs shared with us that Mother Blackburn had a convincing testimony and a courageous faith. She was committed to her family and her church. She was tough but tender. Mother Blackburn was a blessing in the life of this congregation and greatly missed by the Mothers Auxiliary, Senior Usher Board, Mission and Evangelism and members of Madkins Chapel. On March 27, 2018, Mother Zepherine passed from this life and went home to be with our Lord. Pastor Scruggs eulogized Mother Hunter with the sermon, Faith in the Fire from Job 13:15a. Pastor shared with us that Mother Hunter faced many fires in her life. However, there was a force that kept her from quitting. She would never stop coming to church. Mother Hunter was always finely dressed and her presence on the Mothers Auxiliary, in Sunday School and the Gospel Choir are sorely missed. Then, Mother Roberta Jones King, departed this life on May 22, The Madkins Chapel Church family was blessed to have Mother King as a part of our congregation. When Pastor Scruggs eulogized her, she preached, from John 14:3c, Mother King Will Be There. Pastor shared that there were many Sunday mornings that she didn t feel like coming to church, but she knew that Mother King would be there. Mother King was a lady of wisdom, who was always willing to share words of encouragement with all and especially young people. She was a cool and stately lady who was very active in the life of Madkins Chapel and the CPCA denomination. In June 2015, she was crowned Woman of the Year by the National Missionary Society of the CPCA. Mother King was an active participant in the teaching arms of the church, Pastor s Anniversary Committee, Missionary Society and was President of the Mothers Auxiliary for more than 40 years. God blessed her with 102 years of life. We are thankful for her life and how she blessed us with her kind and encouraging words. She is missed greatly, not only by her family but also her church family.
15 In Loving Memory Cont d So, we say Good Night for now, but we will see Mother Reacer Brandford, Mother Nora Blackburn, Mother Zepherine Hunter and Mother Roberta Jones King, in the morning. Remember, dying, Christ destroyed our death. Rising, Christ restore our life. Christ will come again in glory. As when these put on Christ, so in Christ may they be clothed with glory. We thought of you in love today, but that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday and days before that, too. We think of you in silence, We often speak your name. Now all we have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake, and which we ll never part. God has you in his keeping, We have you in our hearts. Author unknown
16 Pastor s Corner Greetings, Where has the time gone? We are in the middle of Summer and before long students will be back in school. I praise God for each of you and hope that you are enjoying this season and have found some time to relax. Bible Study Students, our break is quickly coming to an end. We will resume Bible Study in August. I challenge you to invite someone to come and grow with us as we dive back into the Word of God. In my reading, I found something that I would like to share with you from; The Gospel Daily I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. - John 15:15 Think of your best friend and what makes them so special to you. They care about you, they like you whether you are happy or sad, they talk and listen to you, they keep your deepest secrets safe; they help you, and they make time to be together and create shared memories. This is what Jesus wants to do for us too. He wants you to be His friend. He is actively seeking you out and He promises to reciprocate completely. Jesus is always there for us and knows what it is like to have good friends. He had 11 of them who traveled with Him for three years, plus many more in cities who waited for Him to arrive and stay with them as long as possible like Martha, Mary and Lazarus. He knows how important friendships are, and He wants us to experience the joy of His friendship. For our part, we need to communicate often with Him in prayer, allowing quiet time to listen, give of ourselves to Him by giving to other people He loves, and making time to create memories together at church and in His Word. It takes time and effort but it is so worth it. Commentary by: Colleen Mallette Gospel Daily by David Roads 109 E 17 th Street, Sutie 430 Cheyenne, WY In The Lord s Service, Endia J. Scruggs Pastor
17 6 In the Kitchen Ingredients Two 15-ounce cans sliced peaches in syrup 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter 1 cup self-rising flour 1 cup sugar 1 cup milk Homemade Whipped Cream, recipe follows Homemade Whipped Cream: 2 cups whipping cream, chilled in the fridge 4 tablespoons sugar Directions Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Drain 1 can of peaches; reserve the syrup from the other. Place the butter in a 9- by 12-inch ovenproof baking dish. Heat the butter on the stove or in the oven until it's melted. In a medium bowl, mix the flour and sugar. Stir in the milk and the reserved syrup. Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Arrange the peaches over the batter. Bake for 1 hour. The cobbler is done when the batter rises around the peaches and the crust is thick and golden brown. Serve warm with fresh whipped cream Homemade Whipped Cream: Chill a large metal mixing bowl and the wire beater attachment in the freezer for about 20 minutes. Pour the chilled cream and sugar into the cold mixing bowl and beat until it forms soft peaks, about 5 minutes. The mixture should hold its shape when dropped from a spoon. Don't overbeat or you'll have sweetened butter! 2403 Oakwood Road Huntsville, AL Visit our website Update Uplift Unify The goal of this newsletter is to Update our members of what is happening and upcoming at Madkins Chapel, Uplift members and non-members to join the Loving Place in working for the Lord, and Unify the many voices and experiences represented within our congregation into one combined communication.
