2 From Your Moderator Carroll Rinker What if our day always started with this prayer? Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? And I said, Here am I. Send me! O Lord, what would You have me do today? You know that I love You, and am ready and willing to serve as You have planned and purposed for my life. I am simply a lump of clay in Your hands waiting to be formed into the vessel You would have me be. Oh, what can I do to bring honor and glory to You that Your Name would be magnified? Perhaps You will send someone across my path today who is in need of comfort or a kind word. With You as my guide and the source of all comfort, I would do my best to encourage that someone with the true assurance and hope only found in You and Your Word. There might be one today who, due to overwhelming circumstances in their life, is broken, suffering, and in such despair that they don't know which way to turn. With Your leading, allow me to show them Your Way, Your Truth, and Your Life that can only be realized when they lift their eyes up to You above all else. Others might be sent my way that belong to You, but due to the busyness of life, they have pushed aside their all-important, spiritual needs. Their daily communion with You has lost its priority. Allow me to pray with them...that they might be convicted to renew a close fellowship with You. You know, Lord, that there are many who are searching and reaching out for Your Truth, but have never found it. They need the Savior in their life, but do not understand why...or, how they can claim Your promises by choosing Him in their life. Instill in me a passion for sharing the saving gospel with all who will hear while there is still time to do so. Perhaps, Lord, You would have me do nothing today...other than allowing Your Light to shine brightly from within, that others might see the Christ Who lives in me. Whether that is done through prayers for others, by spoken and written words, or through a life testimony visible to many...i await Your call to serve today. Here am I, Lord, use me this day as You will...in Jesus' Name I pray. The early spring rains are bringing much needed moisture to the lake area. While I don t much like having to get out on a rainy day, I do realize the rain is a blessing. I ll bet we also get some more snow and ice before the final return of summer. But the days are definitely getting longer! The cloudy days are also responsible for those glorious sunsets we have been seeing. Life is like that, isn t it? We experience the ups and downs from warm, sunny days when we are young and just establishing our lives, to the slower, more challenging days as we age. We learn that all of our experiences have helped us grow in character and wisdom. The best times are still before us. Our church is here to help us in all the various stages of our lives. We are all still young in our understanding of Christ s message. That is why Sunday School classes and Bible study are so necessary for all of us, no matter what our age. We have excellent opportunities for all on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM. The more we learn the more we understand God s desire for us to share in his love. Sunday morning worship gives us another opportunity to enrich our understanding and a chance to share God s love for us all. Our church is here to educate us, to support us, to comfort us, to serve us and to allow us to serve others. What will you do for God s service? NEXT BOARD MEETING THURSDAY, MARCH 8, 2018 AT 11:00 A.M. Amen. by Donald Mehl 2

3 Applying Bible Principles MARCH Here s a little true or false test. Be forewarned that the question is somewhat tricky. True or false: A Christian can expect to have all of his or her needs supplied by God. On the surface, that would seem to be true. After all, Philippians 4:19 says, And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. But what many people fail to realize is that this promise is a conditional promise. The reason God will supply all of our needs is based on Philippians 4:18 where the Apostle Paul describes how his needs were met by the Christians at Philippi through the sacrificial offering which they had sent to him. In other words, although those first-century Christians gave to Paul with the desire of assisting him in his ministry to the early church, because of their giving, they earned the right to expect that God would fully meet all of their needs. Because of their willingness to share their resources with Paul, as he indicated in Philippians 4:17, fruit would abound to their account. They could then look to God to supply all of their needs. Although they did not give to get, they would get because they gave. That same principle holds true today. As one person expressed it so well, We do not give to get, but when we give, we get. That s what the Lord Jesus said in Luke 6:38. He indicated that by whatever measure we give, we will in turn receive. Jack Hartman, a Christian businessman, said it this way:... the more we give to God, the more this opens the channel for Him to see that we receive abundantly in return. If we withhold our giving, we are actually withholding the blessing that God wants to give us. Someone described non-essentials in life as... playing Scrabble on the Hindenburg or rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Maybe that s a picture of how you view giving as a non-essential, something not very important in the totality of life. Could it be that is why your needs are not being met in full? Think about this: What would happen if you began to place a rightful priority on your giving, even to the point of giving sacrificially? You see, you would then have the right to claim Philippians 4:19 with the expectation that in response to your giving, God would meet all of your needs. Your obedience to God s direction in your life to give would then result in having Him meet your needs, even with the same measure that you give to Him. CHRISTIAN WOMEN S FELLOWSHIP NEWS MARCH, 2018 Spring is just around the corner and CWF is gearing up for some great Events. If you did not receive a welcome packet, please call Jan in the office Please let me know if you have any changes to be noted in the directory. Thank you. Could you spare one morning a month? We have a great group of women that come to help, but sometimes, there are appointments or illness that get in the way so it would be helpful to have more people to call on in need. Thank you. 7 We want to thank Pastor Kelly and all those who offered their thoughts and prayers following our son, Jeremy s recent stroke. John, Diane and Jeremy Gilmore I m thankful for snowflakes that don t accumulate and savings that do, for blue jeans that fade and dreams that don t, for anything chocolate and everything without calories, for the exercise of the mind and body and the rest of a good night s sleep, for filled church pews and empty parking space, for self-healing abilities of the body and the selflessness of the spirit, for hope that springs eternal and love that won t quit, and for the truth that makes us free. I m grateful for phrases like: Your baby s perfect, and The surgery was a success, and Mom, I m home. For memories of God so loved the world that... and When in the course of human events... and They lived happily ever after, and The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want, I m thankful for healing beyond hurt, for love beyond measure, for life beyond life, for mysteries beyond comprehending, and for God s unfailing grace. (AUTHOR UNKNOWN) West Lake Christian Church Thank you to everyone who have saved and contributed the Best Choice labels. The Best Choice Save-A-Label is a successful program that will give us money for every 1000 labels sent in. This money is then used to help our church. On any Best Choice Brand, kindly cut off the UPC portion of label (bar code) and put in box in the entryway. Thank you again, we are grateful for your support. Coleen Modglin CWF Thank you for allowing us to be stewards of your Compassionate and Caring gifts, to this mission, God has established, to help people in their times of need. His Blessings on you for your faithfulness! Sincerely, Community for Christ. +Christian Symbol+ Torch The torch primarily represents the Passion of Christ, perhaps because he was arrested and tried during the night, when the Temple guard would have used torches for light. The torch also can symbolize spiritual enlightenment, or martyrdom for the sake of the gospel. 7

8 EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS NEWS FIRE EXTINGUISHERS When purchasing a fire extinguisher, you are encouraged to select those with a metal valve, are rechargeable, rated A,B,& C. The rating refers to the type of fire you are fighting. You should consider extinguishers for each level of your residence, kitchen and garage. The cost will vary with kitchen models between $13 to $20. Larger models for other areas of your residence range from $45 to $50. For those of you who have KIDDE extinguishers, you should be aware of a recall. Check whether you own a recalled model at KIDDE.com and find out how to get a free replacement (click on Product Safety Recall Notice ). The recall covers 134 models made between 1973 and August 2017, all of which have lightweight plastic levers and can clog, fail to discharge and/or break during use. (Provided by James McMullin, a fire-safety consultant.)
