Please join your Brother Knights as Fr Ubald, a 1994 Rawanda genocide survivor, presides over a very special Mass with Healing Prayers, at 7:00 PM, on Wednesday March 8th at St John the Evangelist Church in Streamwood. Fr Ubald is insistent that all healing comes from God. That being said, thousands of healing have occurred through the prayers of this humble priest! Confessions begin at 6:00PM. Don t miss this very special evening! As part of the Order s Food for Families program, councils are encouraged to conduct 40 Cans for Lent program. This simple-to-conduct program asks each member of a council, along with the parish community, to donate one can of food for each day of Lent. If the council collects and distributes a minimum of 1,000 pounds of food and contributes 100 man-hours of service to the program, it will satisfy all four requirements for the Family Activities category of the Columbian Award. McGivney united a small group of pioneering Catholic laymen. Together, they founded a society designed to strengthen men in their Catholic faith and to provide financial assistance for widows and orphans. Now, 135 years later, we celebrate Father McGivney s vision for the entire Church, in which he saw all men actively participating in the sacramental life of each and every parish. Here are a few events your council can sponsor on or around Wednesday, March 29, to celebrate the founding of our Order: Hold a reception for your parish and community, showing the film The Life and Legacy of Father McGivney and providing information on the Father Michael J. McGivney Guild. For details about the guild, visit: Recognize your council s founders your charter members by presenting them with Charter Member Certificates (#1456). Prepare a council history display featuring old photos and written records. Tie in your anniversary celebrations with an open house or membership drive. Founder s Day activities are the perfect forum for asking eligible Catholic men to join the Knights of Columbus. Additional copies of the brochure and prayer cards are available in reasonable quantities from the Supply Department. Also, utilize this sample prayer service in planning your council s, assembly's or circle's event. Wayne Messmer plays Fr. Damien the leper Priest Christopher Columbus Assembly #2349 will be presenting the one man play Damien, performed by Sir Knight Wayne Messmer. The play tells the powerful story of Fr. Damien who ministered to the lepers of the Hawaiian island of Mololai. Performances will be at 1:00pm and 8:00pm on Friday, March 3rd at St. Eugene church, 7958 W. Foster Ave. in Chicago. There will be a meet and greet after the 8:00pm performance with Wayne Messmer. McGivney's vision of the Knights of Columbus, taking care of children. Third, it is an opportunity for all Councils, especially Councils that are struggling with Membership and activities, to be visible in the Parish without a lot of manpower and at no cost. The window of opportunity to run this Program is closing quickly. First, you will need to get the permission of your Pastor to collect donations for the pins after Masses on a Sunday or multiple Sundays, during the month of March. Second, you will need to make contact with Jeff Griggs to obtain pins, vests, instructions, etc. You should be able to successfully execute this program with as little as 4 volunteers. Bulletin and pulpit announcements are available. Everything will be provided at no cost to the Council. McGivney Golf Outing benefitting the Center of Hope and Healing 5 th SUNDAY ROSARY PROGRAM The 5th Sunday Rosary Program is off to a great start and many councils are reporting that prospective members have approached council members after the program with an interest in joining. Councils conducting this program need to be prepared for men inquiring about joining their council by having Prospect Cards (#921A) and Form 100 s available. This program is designed to encourage more involvement in Church activities by council members, their families and parishioners.

April 2017 contains a fifth Sunday and councils are encouraged to participate. Councils that wish to conduct this program should first consult with your local pastor or council chaplain in order to obtain permission to conduct the program and to ensure there is no conflict with other scheduled parish activities. Fifth Sunday Kits (#SR-KIT) are available through the Department of Fraternal Services. The kits consist of a finger rosary and prayer card. The prayer card contains instructions on how to pray the finger rosary as well as the prayers and mysteries of the rosary. Personal rosaries may also be used when participating in the program. Councils conducting this program during the fraternal year will fulfill all four Church Activity requirements for the Columbian Award. Guild members receive regular updates on the progress of Father McGivney's cause for canonization and are invited to participate in promoting devotion to this Servant of God. Members of the Knights of Columbus are not automatically Guild members and must elect to join the Guild. The Father Michael J. McGivney Guild Newsletter is published bimonthly except July- August, and is sent free to Guild members. He begins with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and procession through the Sanctuary. Come early to ensure seating as the churches will be filled. Fr. Ubald survived the Rwandan genocide, however lost over 80 members of his family and more than 45,000 parishioners. He first came to the United States in 2009 at the invitation of Immaculée Ilibagiza, fellow genocide survivor and author of book Left to Tell. He has brought the power of forgiveness and healing with the love of the living Christ into the lives of countless individuals who have been healed physically, emotionally and spiritually. Father Ubald is insistent that all healing comes from God, and that his gift is simply to understand what has been healed. Secure Pastor's permission to solicit donations after all Masses one weekend in the vestibule or outside. If the Parish has a St. Pat's party, that is generally the most effective weekend. Advertise the campaign in the Parish bulletin Request a pulpit announcement Suggested quantity to request is (500) per Parish served. Rough target is $1000 per Parish. This is really just an average. Some Parishes will generate much lower results, and some Parishes will greatly exceed that target. Determine how many cans and aprons you will need. Generally (4) per parish per weekend. Please only request the maximum number you will need for any given weekend. If you pick a different weekend for each Parish you serve, that will cut down your manpower needs as well as the number of cans and aprons necessary. Questions?
