Healthy Congregations Nugget Physical activity guidelines during the holidays It s tempting to throw your workouts by the wayside with the promise to start again after the New Year. Research shows that when regular exercise stops, de-training occurs within a few weeks. It's better to shift to maintenance workouts than to stop altogether and lose what you've worked so hard to gain. Even if you need to reduce the time of each session or cut back one workout a week, maintaining the momentum of your regular exercise routine is much easier than stopping and trying to re-establish it again later. Regular exercise will give you structure, stop holiday weight gain, help decrease stress and offset seasonal depression. So, make time to exercise during the busy time! The United Methodist Women at Colby UMC and those from other churches who brought salads and cookies, worked in the kitchen, and those who helped in other ways were instrumental in facilitating an inspiring ecumenical event at Colby UMC. Thank you also to the 57 persons from at least 11 churches who attended. Freewill donations to Victory House near Brewster and missions through Church Women United totaled $ Puddle Duck Preschool Giving Tree In the spirit of giving, please consider donating to the ministry of Puddle Duck Preschool. Choose card(s) from the tree in the church narthex. Purchased items may be placed (unwrapped) under the tree and monetary donations taken to the church office. 5 Children s Sunday School News! CUMC kids will be practicing for their Christmas Program during Sunday School on December 2 nd, 9 th, and 16 th. They will perform during worship on Dec. 16 th! Hope to see all of the kids and their families there!! All middle & high school kids are welcome Wednesday evenings from 7:00 8:00! HOLIDAY SCHEDULE! Youth group will not meet Dec. 19, 26, or Jan. 2. Genesis donations are welcome at any time. Any item is welcome as long as it has not been opened, partially used, or is expired. Federal law prohibits our dispensing such items. The following are items that Genesis considers staple goods. These are items that they expect to have on hand for those that need it each month: Vegetables, beans, tomato sauce or tomatoes, soup, Ramen Noodles, canned fish or meat, frozen meat, Hamburger Helper/Tuna Helper, Macaroni & Cheese, pasta/noodles, spaghetti sauce, jelly, peanut butter, Jell-O or pudding, cereal, toilet paper. The following items may be available: bread, cake mixes or muffin mixes, canned fruit, dry milk, popcorn, potato mixes, and rice. Monetary donations are also always welcome. You may write your check out to CUMC and write Genesis on the memo line. The church will forward your giving to Genesis, and the donation will be shown on your giving statement. 9 The United Methodist Women s fundraising event for missions, our cookie walk, will be held December 1 at Fellowship Hall from 11:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. Cookies, candy, and crafts will be sold. Candy and cookies will be sold for $7.50 per pound. On December 1, anyone who wants to help bake and decorate cookies in the church kitchen will meet at 9:00 a.m. Baking supplies will be furnished. Bring decorating items and cookie cutters. Linda Jones is the chairperson for this event! December 13 will be the United Methodist Women Christmas Luncheon in Fellowship Hall at 11:45 a.m. This is always a fun and delightful event. Virginia Umberger will be catering the meal. Your reservations should be turned in to the church office by December 7. Jerri Shuman s first graders will be presenting a music program. We also will hear Cheryl Metcalf, Vice President of the District United Methodist Women, speak. We will try to finish up by 1:00 p.m. so that people who need to get back to work will still be able to attend. Merry Christmas to all and His Joy, Peace, and most of all Love in your lives.
