You make us proud! Trevor Weststeyn, Delta Omega University of Tulsa 2019, of Team USA took home two medals in the 2017 World Dwarf Games held from August 4 to 12 at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. Weststeyn won the gold medal in the 10-meter air pistol marksmanship competition and won a bronze medal in floor hockey, beating team Germany.

2 NEWS Past Grand Consul and Grand Historian Doug Carlson, has passed to Chapter Eternal. Uber Picks Expedia head Dara Khosrowshahi, Beta Nu/Brown University 91 as its new CEO. University of Penn State President announces end to Self Governance for Fraternities and Sororities. He is requesting stricter state and federal laws on hazing and teenage alcohol abuse on state and federal levels. Save The Date Friday September 22nd, 2017 The Alumni Connection: DELTA OMEGA DAY! 4 SOCIAL CHAIRMAN RICK GUILD, OSU Brothers, We had a super busy social calendar in July! On July 10th we had our 2nd Thursday Happy Hour at Bodean s Restaurant at 51st and Harvard that was very well attended and is always fun for everyone. It will be happening again this month at Marshall Brewery on September 14 th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Marshall Brewery is located at 618 S Wheeling Ave. Mark your calendar now and be there. We are having great attendance on our Summit Club lunches every Friday at Noon. Come join us! No need to be a Summit Club member. Parking is very convenient in the Summit's parking garage and it is free. It was great to see over 40 Sigma Chis come to one of our recent lunches. Our goal is to average over 40 Sigma Chis at every lunch and have to move it from the River Room to the larger Library Room. Thank you, Jack Allen, for hosting our Statewide Rush Party this year at your beautiful home! Our 1st Annual Southern Hills Christmas Party last year was a huge success! 142 people attended! Next year we expect over 200 to attend! Next year s date at Southern Hills is December 12, Add it to your social calendar and RSVP now. For the last year and a half, I have been attempting to invoice for everyone s annual dues based on the actual date of payment the previous year. This system has created an inordinate amount of work for me to keep track of. If you have not paid your 2017 dues, please do so now. We won t bother you again until 2018! 6 GRAND PRAETOR REPORT DON MCKINNEY, TU 84, GRAND PRAETOR OK/AR I came back from Balfour Leadership Training Workshop inspired and charged for the upcoming school year. A few statistics from the workshop. Nearly 2000 undergraduates and 400 alumni volunteers attended the workshop. The cost of the workshop is near 800,000. OSU won a Peterson award and University of Tulsa received best rush video. Brothers Cliff Lyle and Joe Porter both were facilitators for OU and TU. The fact they live near the chapters will be of great assistance to the chapters and chapter advisors. Sigma Chi will implement a new program next fall (the beta testing is currently being tested). Ritual for life will replace PIT(post initiation training). The new Ritual for life will be three sessions of which one will be taught be a ritual peer. This will be a much more instructive and organized way to enable our members to use the ritual in our daily lives for post college living. The PIT program had been lacking at most schools containing only information on passwords, grips and mottos. I want to make an announcement that Brad Wimpy has become our regional support person from HQ. Many of you know him from his 10+ years experience as chapter advisor at Arkansas State and numerous years as BLTW facilitator. He will be of great assistance to us. 7 FROM THE PRESIDENT BOB WANDRES, TU 66 Bob Wandres President Occasionally, someone in my family or circle of friends will affectionately refer to me as old school, a description that I proudly own. Sure, I know they are usually just kidding me about my dismissive bouts with ever changing latest and greatest communication gadgets, and social media tweets. However, I like the title, as it really conveys so much more. You have heard me muse on the hindsight perspective of growing older, which is always And, there is a certain nostalgia for times and things past...too many to mention here. But, indulge me for just a few minutes in our bullet speed world. Elder Sigs will understand, while our younger generations might wonder. Hopefully, you will relate now, or perhaps later. You see, I really like old things...old houses, old cars (with stick shifts), old books, old photos, old music, old firearms, old boots, old friends, old times...really anything that stirs a fond recollection in my history, or even the history of family and friends that have preceded me. And, I am blessed with a wonderful memory that seems to lock all these things in my heart. I don t disdain today s conveniences, and have even made peace with Alexa, and the lovely lady guiding me on my driving expeditions, (even her charming speech impediment). I just appreciate my good fortune having grown up at a time when everything was more lasting and meaningful...the little things like handwritten cards and letters...lasting gifts...and especially the close relationships that developed through eye to eye conversations and time spent just hanging out with friends, particularly my Sigma Chi brothers, who are as close now as then. Regardless of your own take on all of this, we all can acknowledge that our lives only accelerate over the years. Take some time to create (and preserve) your own memories. 8 CHAPTER ETERNAL REPORT HAP FRY, MICHIGAN STATE 64/TU 67 RALPH GLEN WATLEY, JR. He entered Chapter Eternal on August 22, He was born March 1, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri to Ralph Sr. and Elvira Watley. Ralph graduated from Van Horn High School in In 1969 he graduated from Tulsa University with his BA. He retired from Steelcase after 30 years. He was a member of The Delta Omega Chapter of Sigma Chi. Ralph never met a stranger and always enjoyed a good conversation. He enjoyed telling jokes and stories, and had a loud laugh to go with them. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Simms-Watley, children: Justin Carl Rotering-Watley and wife, Lily, Erin A. Hall and husband, Jared; step-sons: Eric K. White and wife, Whitney, Nickolas R. White and wife, Natalie, Jason L. White and wife, Ashley. LEWIS PAUL HAYS He entered Chapter Eternal Tuesday, August 15. He was 75 years old and lived in Bellingham, WA. He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Vivian (Collins) Hays; their children Jennifer Hays of Tromsø, Norway; Hilary (Hays) Engebretson and her husband Bryant Engebretson of Bellingham, WA; Joshua Hays and his wife Jesse (Nickerson) Hays of Seattle; Lewis was born on September 5, He attended Edison High School and studied engineering at The University of Tulsa, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Lewis was a strong Christian and a member of Christ the King church in Bellingham WA. He was a cheerful, optimistic person with a wonderful and quirky sense of humor and a spirit of generosity. People responded easily to his outgoing, kind and intelligent nature, and all of these qualities won him many friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

9 RITUAL CHAIRMAN WILLIS ALLEN, TU How Constantine Became Our Ancient Patron The Founders faced the problem of selecting a proper patron worthy of exemplifying their own goals, aspirations, ambitions, and ideals. We often picture that enthusiastic group of seven young men at Miami in 1855 conscientiously deliberating and trying to go back into the past to find some figure who could best guide them in their undertaking of founding a new fraternity. According to Founder Bell, Ben Runkle was the emergent soldier of the group and was a student of the Greek and Roman wars, and Constantine was one of his heroes. Runkle was the first of the Seven to catch the inspiration of the vision of Constantine, and to interweave it into the story of the White Cross and the slanting of the Badge over the left shoulder in to the traditions of Sigma Chi. Runkle was inspired with the story of Constantine, as a man of simple background, with Stoic values; holding strong to those values advanced through the ranks and became a leader of men. According to Founder Thomas C. Bell The White Cross and the slanting of the Badge over the left shoulder which was and is done to parallel and draw symbolism with Constantine, whose soldiers carried their swords in their right hand with the blade slanted across their breast, pointed over their left shoulder.
