Harry Wonderland, Rev Dennis Derr, Rev. Bob Andrews, Rev. Steve Fauser, Rev Michael Greenauer, Rev Melody Sell, Rev Jud Bennett Saturday, April 3 Easter Egg Hunt at 10:00am Children up to 5th grade welcome to participate! Sunday, April 4: Easter Sunday 6:00am Sunrise Services 7:00am Sunrise Breakfast 8:00 & 10:30am: Worship Services Easter Cantata presented by Adult Choir My dear friends, I want to speak my heart to you. I have told you over the years that I think the Apostle Paul is probably the best Christian to ever have lived. In 1 Corinthians chapter 2 Paul speaks words that say what I want to say to you. Let me paraphrase: When I came to Trinity Danville, I did not come proclaiming the mystery of God to you in lofty words or wisdom. I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. I came to you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling. As my time remaining with you gets shorter, I hope that you are able to say, We saw Christ in you. I certainly have seen Christ in you! And together, Christ in us, has wrought demonstrations of God s power. Who among us could have imagined the advent of a childcare ministry...expanded facilities...a significant youth ministry with an area wide impact...hands on mission projects (like the recent blankets for the United Methodist Children s Home)...and so much more? Space would fail for me to mention all that I want to say. If it seems like I am boasting, I am only boasting in what God has done through you! Sixteen years ago we could not have conceived what our eyes have seen. Christ is alive in Danville because Christ is alive through you. I think of people, who because of their faith in Christ, make a difference in the lives of others: the single mom (by choice) who made a home for more than 30 foster and adoptive children who were unwanted by their biological parents. Or the husband and wife, who in addition to their biological children, brought 70 foster children through their home. Saints like these demonstrate the Spirit s power at work through Trinity Church. There are people in Danville who need to see demonstrations of the Spirit s power at work through Trinity Church. Shine the true light! Show true religion with actions that welcome, embrace and offer the help, hope, and healing grace of Jesus Christ. So glad we ve had this time together. Pastor Dennis
4 Men of Trinity The Men will be meeting this month on April 13th & 27th at 7:00pm. All men are welcome to attend the meetings! Trinity Women On April 18th the women will be attending a spring tea at Balzano s Corner Gathering in Bloomsburg. Reservations need to be made and paid for by April 11th (a sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board.) Cost is $21; please pay Beth Holmes. All reservations must be honored. Adopt-A-Room Project: The Women are adopting a room at the Women s Center in Bloomsburg! The purpose of this project is to make shelter rooms more homey and comfortable for victims who must leave their homes to escape violence. Because the linens and decorations need to coordinate, the women are planning to go shopping together to purchase the needed items. You can participate by making a monetary donation to help with the purchase, or volunteer to go shopping! Donations can be placed in the offering plate or given to the church office. Checks should be made payable to TUMC, but please make sure that you have designated your gift to the Adopt-A- Room project. Contact Beth Holmes if you wish to help with the shopping. Interested in becoming a member of the Trinity family? Rev. Derr will host a Newcomer Café during the Sunday School hour April 11-May 23. This serves as Confirmation training. New members will be received on the Day of Pentecost (May 23.) This short term class will acquaint you with the history of the Bible, the Church, the United Methodist movement, Trinity s place in Danville, and challenge you to make a personal decision for Jesus Christ and a commitment to this congregation. Let Rev. Derr know if you plan to attend. Haiti Relief Effort Update Paxtonville HUB Report: Thanks from the Paxtonville HUB to all the churches in the Lewisburg District who donated supplies for Health Kits to Haiti. Volunteers were able to create 760 kits from these supplies. UMCOR is calling for three other types of kits to go to Haiti: school kits, layette kits and birthing kits. Would your Sunday School class or group like to collect items for one or more of these kits? Tammy Seybert is able to deliver the items to Mission Central. Contact the church office for more information. UMCOR Update: As of March 11, $14.5 million has been donated to UMCOR for Haiti relief. Hundreds of thousands of kits have been received. UMCOR has carried out an initial assessment of damages and needs, developed a five-year work plan and shored up strategic partnerships with the UN, NGOs and the Methodist Church in Haiti. Volunteers will soon be needed; teams are beginning to mobilize. Mission Cataract USA This project helps residents living in this community who have no insurance or other means of paying for much needed cataract surgery. Geisinger s Department of Ophthalmology will be participating again this year. Free eye screenings will be provided on April 24 at Geisinger. Individuals who require cataract surgery and qualify for financial aid will have the surgery performed three weeks later on May 15. To make an appointment call (570) and press #4.
5 Need a Helping Hand? Have a Prayer Concern? Laid Up in the Hospital? Thinking Meal Ministry is Needed? Get In Touch with Your Congregational Care Team! All members of our congregation face struggles and difficulties at some point in their lives. The good news is that we are part of a caring community of Christians here at Trinity and help is available. Already established within our church are a wide variety of caring ministries: Meal Ministry, Prayer Chain, Men s Group, Women s Group, and Tape Ministry. Many church members participate in these ministries to try to meet the needs of those in the congregation who are hospitalized, homebound, mourning, or hurting in some other way. With the goal being to make sure that everyone in our Trinity family will receive appropriate and timely care, our new Congregational Care Team will now serve as the central network through which all of these caring ministries can be accessed. Members who have a need should contact any member of the team, and we will be sure to get that concern to those who can help most directly. We hope and pray that no one among our congregation will feel they have to go it alone simply because they are not sure who to call for help. We encourage you to contact any team member if you have a need. Here is the list of team members who are ready and waiting to connect you with the caring ministry that can help: Cindy Elder (team coordinator) & Allison Spencer (team coordinator) Rayvon Hilliard Louise Hilliard Brad Bason Ray Santucci Diane Derr Valerie Thomas Debbie Lewellen Donna Hersh Warren Hersh Harry Lesher Barb Barron Dave Barron Bill Elder Scott Saxon Verna Everett Hospitalized congregation members can expect individuals from this team to visit at Geisinger (as long as you let us know you are there). Additionally, beginning in May our LAMbs (limited access members) will be able to receive communion in their homes from team members on the first Sunday of the month. By Tammy Seybert Director of Youth Ministry Eight Youth and three adults participated in the 30 Hour Famine on the last weekend in February. $1008 was raised for World Vision and has been directed to relief efforts in Haiti. Even more exciting, Abbey Culver raised enough money to apply for a Student Tour with World Vision in 2011 (the destination has not been determined.) Please keep Abbey in your prayers as she prepares for the registration and selection process. A HUGE thank you to all of you for your donations (both money and items needed for the event), prayers and support for the 30 hour Famine. A special thank you to Pastor Derr offering a communion to the Youth to end our fast, and to Diane Derr, Barb Barron and Jill Fodness for preparing and serving our third world meal at the end of the 30 hours. Rice and beans never tasted so good! Yard Sale! June 5 from 8:00am to noon. Start collecting your items! No clothing please. All Youth grades 6-12 are invited to Youth Group! Donation Requests for April Local food bank: jello & pudding Mission Central: Bars of soap (3 oz or larger) 24 pack of crayons Donations to Mission Central are used for UMCOR health & school kits.
6 News from our Childcare Ministry April will be a very busy month for Trinity Childcare! During Holy Week, the children will learn about Easter by wrapping a marshmallow (body of Christ) in crescent roll dough (linens), sprinkling it with cinnamon & sugar (spices) and baking it in the oven (tomb.) The marshmallow disappears, and the teachers use this opportunity to teach the children about the Resurrection. The week of April has been designated as the Week of the Young Child, with the focus on the importance of early childhood education. Cathy Esworthy & Amy Cram are on the planning committee for events in our area. Trinity Childcare is one stop on the Red Carpet Tour; the superintendent of the school district and other dignitaries will be taking a tour of our facility. Artwork from our children will be displayed in Beiter s window. Children from the community will be invited to participate in a treasure hunt! They will be given a map of area businesses to find and will receive a free gift when they visit the location. The children will celebrate Earth Day by cleaning up around the church grounds. They will also be studying flowers & plants this month. VBS July 5-9, :00-8:30pm Please join us in volunteering for a VBS African Adventure while we participate in God s Great Get Together! If you aren t available for the entire week, please consider a few days. Call or sign up on the bulletin board. Adult & Youth volunteers are needed. Registration forms are now available in the lobby and church office. Register early and receive a Baobab Blast music CD! Donations/loans of jungle themed items are needed! (stuffed animals, fabric with jungle prints, safari items, etc.) Odds & Ends Scott Saxon will re-show the video Out of Islam, on Wednesday, April 7 at 6:00pm in the sanctuary. The video tells the personal testimony of a Muslim who founded Hezbollah and later converted to Christianity. Trinity s newly formed Praise & Worship Team will make their debut performance at both worship services on April 18th. The Team has been practicing for the past month so that they can provide Trinity with an alternate form of worship. Please plan to join us that Sunday for a spirited, uplifting, music-filled morning of praise. Trinity Trustees are planning a Work Day to clean and spruce up the church grounds on May 8th beginning at 8:00am. The Trustees will provide a lunch of hot dogs, chips and beverage for all volunteers. Even if you can only spare an hour that day, please stop by with your rakes and shovels and lend a hand! The rain date for the work day is May 22. Trinity collects Campbell s Soup labels to benefit the Neighborhood Center in Harrisburg. The Neighborhood Center recently purchased a new van with 1,750, 000 labels, so they are put to good use! Note: We need the ENTIRE soup label (including the UPC) not just the front of the label. Plan now for a Church Christmas Bazaar on December 4th! Donations of hand-crafted items will be needed!
