1 St Pius St X Pius Council X Council My worthy brother Knights, Vicky and I hope everyone had a joyous, safe and wonderful celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. We wish you and your families a healthy and blessed New Year. As we go into 2016, I urge all of you to make one of your resolutions to be a better Knight of Columbus and a better Catholic in the service of our Lord to the benefit of those less fortunate in keeping with the Pope s Year of Mercy. If you have read the latest Columbian magazine, you know there are changes coming to what we do as Knights. Whether we agree or disagree with the proposed changes is irrelevant to the services we provide. Let us not become disenchanted or blasé about providing service to the poor, our Church, our Parish and our community, as they now become our primary focus. For our Council, there is very little that will change in what we have always been doing. The main change will be in how we deal with our youth programs as they will now go under the aegis of the Parish, but we will support them financially and with man hours. Let us not become concerned with the route we have to take but instead work together to reach our goals as always. serious concern should be LEADERSHIP. This council will not be successful and will have a hard time to survive trying to do the good we do without adequate leadership. We face the possibility of a Council year without a Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight and Chancellor. These are the three top officers who should be guiding us in all our good works. I have had the privilege to serve this Council as your Grand Knight for 3 years already and due to medical reasons find it hard to continue for a 4th. The Deputy Grand Knight, who has also served for 3 years, has indicated that for personal reasons he does not wish to advance. Our present Chancellor due to medical reasons finds he is unable to continue. We urgently need three Knights to step up and commit themselves to lead this Council. I know we have brother Knights who have the requisite skills to be good leaders. If we could begin your training for these positions as soon as possible in the New Year, the transition of officers will go smoother our outstanding Council will continue to excel. I am confident that someone will come forward. Finally, I thank you all for the past year. We achieved many accomplishments which ultimately lead to our Council achieving Star Council. Your hard work made this possible and more importantly provided for a better community for everyone. Our most urgent and serious concern this coming year, is not achieving membership goals or activity goals, although they are important. 2 Happy New Year! and caring gift to purchase for many people. Life Insurance As a Gift? The initial reaction for many people when you mention life insurance as a gift is a quick step back and a questioning stare. How morbid, they think. While it may seem that way when you first mention it, life insurance is really a thoughtful gift that can be a financial life preserver in tough times. The problem with life insurance is the general perception. Many think of death instead of the great benefits it provides, and the security that it offers even while you re alive.. Life insurance should be thought of as a precautionary protective measure for a family unit. The purchase of this product can mean saving your home, sending your children to college, and preserving your spouse s quality of life in the event of your death. One of the times you may want to purchase life insurance for someone is when a family has a new baby. It s a great, low-cost way to set money aside for the future (i.e. college tuition, housing, business start-up, etc.). Of greater importance, it ensures these children will have insurance as adults, in case an illness later in life makes him or her uninsurable. Newlyweds are also ideal recipients for life insurance. As they join their lives and financial responsibilities, young couples need to make sure that their early investments are fully protected. If something were to happen to one of them, the other may be faced with serious financial hardship. A life insurance policy is an ideal way to ensure their future and protect their assets. 3 A REPORT ON BREAKFAST WITH SANTA All the hard work and planning paid off. Breakfast with Santa was a success. It would be tough for me to name all the helpers so I won t try. But for those that did help (you know who you are) my deepest gratitude. For those of you that had a chance to help but didn t, Santa has your names. Special thanks to Santa (Tony Pennisi), Mrs. Clause (Tonya Messenger), the Elf (Donna Sweet), to Dick Goddard who was in the center of it all and the many new Council Brothers. It s great to see new members giving their time to help. Also, thanks to the Arts and Crafts ladies headed by Liane Falgiano and Kim Pinda. Dan Pinda, standing all those hours taking the photos, will put a lot of smiles on the faces of those that check the website and Bob Messenger for his roving pictures..thank you all. Not to forget the Kitchen Staff that worked so hard behind the scenes to provide a great breakfast for over 300. Great job Emil Estopare and crew! Wayne Mikolajewski, you are Mr. Candy Man, thank you for your candy donation Wayne. PGK Joe Gulotta Santa s Chairman Page 3
4 envelope. Beginning with this edition of the newsletter we will be sending a six page edition with no address page inside an The post office has been complaining that multiple staples on the newsletter jam their equipment. If we use one staple, there is the chance that it will arrive torn and tattered because the post office equipment snags the newsletter. To rectify this we will begin mailing them in an envelope. This means we will not need the address page, and therefore the additional space can be used for more articles. Prayer INTENTIONS A Prayer for Healing... Dear God, we place our worries in Your hands. We place our sick in Your care and humbly ask that You restore Your servants to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge Your holy will and know that whatever You do, You do for the love of us. Amen. It will be folded twice to fit. 3 sheets of paper and the envelope will still need one stamp. Beginning with this edition we will also only a link to the council web page that will land you on our newsletter page. There you will find not only the latest copy of our newsletter, but a library of newsletters that you either missed or want to revisit. If you want to test the link now, go to newsletters.asp?cno= Mailing the newsletters is an expense; not only in stamps but paper, envelopes and time to put them all together to mail out. We are asking all who currently receive the newsletter via the US Postal Service and have an address we can send the link, to please contact Pete Karculias at (520) or him at skpeter@cox.net. You will still be able to print it out if you want hard copy. You will be doing your council and your Brother Knights a service by doing so. Christmas Social A great time was had by all!!
