1 O C TO B E R 2 4, Oakbridge W E S T E R N O A K S C H R I S T I A N C H U R C H PROPERTY UPDATE Many thanks to Fern & Bob Melton for painting the parking stripes, etc. on our parking lot. They also donated the paint & equipment to do the job. Pretty spiffy guys. I want to thank all of our grounds crew for their hard work this past season: Bob Smith, Dave Brown, Justin Gamble, Terry Singleton, Judy Steele, Diane Maier, Jane Maytubby, Mary Garrison and Pat Brown. Inside always fixing, repairing whatever breaks is George Lunsford, Jerry Cobb and Jack Graham. A big thank you to Bob Melton for painting the half-court and free throw lines around the basketball net. Kids have already been seen playing there. Also another thank you to George Lunsford for putting up the shelving in the Youth Wing storeroom. He also moved a bunch of paint cans into the room & recycled another bunch of old paint cans. (Continued on Page 2)
2 Stewardship is Not About the Money Date ATTENDANCE 10/16/16 9:00 AM 44 11:00 AM 95 10/23/16 9:00 AM 42 Date 11:00 AM 84 GIVING 10/16/16 General $3, Blessing Fund $ /23/16 General $6, Blessing Fund $65.00 P A G E 2 But it does take money to keep being church and keep the church running. I have often shared dreams of the things we can do, that many want to do, and the things we need to do here at the church. The response I am often met with is It just takes money. There is a great deal of truth in that statement, but as we hear about the struggles in Oklahoma with budget shortfalls and schools cutting back or other agencies struggling to meet their budget, we need to remember our church. The goal of the Stewardship campaign is to remind everyone of our commitment to church. It is to remind us of our importance in the life of the church. If we can look at something small, something some might view as insignificant and find just how important that is then think of how much more important we are in the eyes of God! A simple chair in a child s classroom is more than some pieces of wood shaped into a place to sit. It is a place that gives comfort. It is something that lets a child know they are important. It is a place that brings together a child and a volunteer amidst the discourse of God s love. Or a stove. A simple device in every kitchen, but in the church kitchen food is prepared to feed multitudes. Or the shed? Sure it houses the lawnmowers and other tools. It is important to maintaining the grounds and those who spend hours upon hours making sure the church stays beautiful. These things are important in the life of the church. But not by themselves. They are important because of the dedication and devotion, the offering of time and talents in service of increasing God s kingdom. May we continue to find ways that we can share God s love and compassion. May we prayerfully consider our dedication to church and God through our gifts of time, talents and financial support. Please turn in your pledge card this Sunday with your estimated giving. You can place it in the acrylic box outside of Sanctuary, place it in the offering plate or even mail it in to the church this week. This is important information for the Stewardship Committee and the Administrative Committee to start working on next year s budget. Ultimately, stewardship may not be about money because it is about taking care of our community, but it does require money to take care of our church family. PROPERTY UPDATE CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 Some of you may have noticed that our recycle container is gone. We have changed to Republic Services for single stream recycling. The container will be picked up on even weeks. Detailed below is a list of what items can be placed in the container. As soon as Republic receives our signed agreement they will be delivering the container. We currently have a contract with WM for solid waste. That contract ends At that time we will switch to Republic for solid waste. If you have questions please feel free to contact me. Jane Maytubby, Property Chair Shalom, Daniel

Several from Western Oaks attended worship at Refuge Church. During worship services, Reverend Noel Gray, reminded us through help of scripture of the Pharisee and the tax collector that we should not have an uppity frame of mind for none of us are greater than the other in the eyes of God. But instead, we come to the table as one body of Christ, for together we are community. Armelda Allen Kristin Pursley Rita Walker Deana Smith The Millman Family Lizzy Millman Rita Norris
